I just wanted to add this quote from the peppermint patty peanuts wiki page about Charles M. Schulz and his relationship with his gay cousin. The source here leads to a book that I did not read but the original source is Schulz's wife who confirmed this in an interview. If I can find the interview again I will link it here but uh. just in case someone tries to claim Schulz was a homophobe on this post again.

Shavuot ketubah
Italy, 17th-18th century
This rare ketubah celebrates the symbolic union between God, the bridegroom, and the People of Israel, the bride, a conceit derived from a Jewish legend. This spiritual wedding takes place on the holiday of Shavuot, and the witnesses are the Heavens and the Earth. The story of Moses, including the giving of the Law that is commemorated on Shavuot, is illustrated above and below the text, which is flanked by the figures of Moses and Aaron.
I know that we often think of Shavuot as cheese/cheesecake day... But the day is a Celebration of Ruth (well King David, but we have to read the Megillat Ruth for that).
So Chag Shavuot Sameach to all Jewish Converts and those converting, our Gerim Tzedek. Thank you for loving Judaism and Jews so much that you felt compelled to be one of us, and importantly thank you for an excuse to make and eat cheesecake every year.
So she said, “See, your sister-in-law has returned to her people and her gods. Go follow your sister-in-law.”
But Ruth replied, “Do not urge me to leave you, to turn back and not follow you. For wherever you go, I will go; wherever you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God my God.
chag sameach!💚

Happy Shavuot 🌾💛
Celebrating the harvest, abundance, and our beautiful community. Thankful for all the little traditions that bring us back to each other every year. Chag sameach! 🥰

Gonna chill out the rest of May and then change my entire life in June. Possibly July if that doesn't work out. Certainly no later than September or October.
One of the most annoying genres of people on the internet are people who act like they believe science is one single monolithic thing. Like, you'll see an article saying something like "scientists studying the movement of tectonic plates", and then in the comments there'll be several smug people saying "smh why are scientists doing this instead of finding a cure for cancer", like. Why would a geologist be doing that.

hey so you actually cannot meaningfully separate jewish ethnicity from jewish religion. yes there are non-religious jews but even the secular aspects of our culture are inextricably linked to our spirituality, ritual practices, and mythology. you cannot claim to support jews if that support ends the minute we express a connection to our ancestral customs.
Taylor Swift went to a restaurant in NYC called Or'esh, if you look it up you'll see it says it's Mediterranean/Levantine, I guess because it's not safe atm to openly call it Israeli. it doesn't matter to freaks online though, who are saying, "shitty Zio supporter" "going to a restaurant owned by Israelis is fucking disgusting. Free Palestine."
what the hell do people want? when Israeli Jews aren't even in Israel they complain and want to boycott them and harm them. it's so OBVIOUS that they don't want any of us alive, or allowed to pursue livelihoods, anywhere on earth.
.
Fucking THIIIIIIS.
There's a cafe in San Francisco called Manny's.
The owner, Manny Yekutiel, spent a year talking to business owners, community leaders, and anti-gentrification activists in the neighborhood to find out what they thought would benefit the area the most – and then he built it.
Manny's is staffed by people that are formerly homeless and formerly incarcerated.
It's in a Latine neighborhood that's struggled with gentrification for decades. All of its staff and written signs/materials are bilingual.
And its prices are deliberately kept as low as possible. Coffee is $1.75 and a meal is as low as $6.... in a city where a sandwich routinely goes for $15. (I am not exaggerating.)
Manny's has given free or low-cost space to dozens and dozens of nonprofits such as Mission Graduates, Indivisible, Citizen’s Climate Lobby and the Instituto Familiar de la Raza.
It contains a mini bookshop, curated by a local independent bookstore, focusing on social justice and activism.
It hosts talks on everything from Black Lives Matter to climate justice.
Manny's events are mostly free. But no one is turned away for lack of funds.
The kitchen is run by a nonprofit called Farming Hope.
The owner is a child of immigrants. And his father escaped anti-Jewish persecution in Afghanistan by walking to Israel.
But in 2017, anti-Zionists after the Chicago Dyke March cornered and surrounded women carrying rainbow flags with the star of David on them. And did that Plausible Deniability Harassment thing at them. The one where people are "just asking questions!!" and "this isn't YELLING!!" so they can insist later that "we didn't kick them out, they just left!"
In other words, at least two Jewish women were kicked out of the picnic after the Chicago Dyke March.
In response to that, Manny had posted to Facebook saying, "Anyone know of some good Zionist organizations in the Bay where I can plug in and help?”
ALL OF THAT happened 18 MONTHS BEFORE HIS CAFE OPENED.
So O B V I O U S L Y, he had (checks notes) “unequivocally espoused racist, Zionist, pro-Israel ideals,” and his cafe was a “gentrifying wine-bar, cafe and fake ‘social justice’ space” that should be shut down.
Because, as the Lucy Parsons Project put it, "We will not tolerate gentrifiers and Zionists attempts at invading and destroying our community through ‘woke-washing’!!”
(The Lucy Parsons Project is "a radical black queer direct action group fighting anti-blackness in the Bay Area," going so far out of its lane that it's almost comedic.)
Over the weekend I popped by Manny’s, the new café at 16th and Valencia to check out what all the…
That group, Gay Shame, and sometimes others, has protested outside of Manny's ALMOST EVERY FUCKING WEDNESDAY FOR LITERALLY YEARS.
They started protesting in late 2018 or early 2019. Here's them still posting about it in 2024:
(Gay Shame, meanwhile, was supposed to be an alternative to corporate Pride. Both groups basically sidelined their entire purposes so they could fuck around yelling at people at a cafe every damn week.)
Manny rented the space from the Mission Housing Development Corporation, the oldest and one of the largest non-profit community housing developers in San Francisco.
So of fucking course people called MHDC to threaten them. And called its board to demand the guy running it be fired for renting to Manny.
This 2019 article, updated again in 2022, says:
Luckily all this controversy hasn’t overshadowed the excellent work that Manny’s is doing. In fact it’s done the opposite. All the attention has ended up hipping way more people to them than would’ve known about them otherwise. And on Wednesday nights, as a way to counter the protestors outside, Manny’s gets packed with supporters who come from all over the Bay Area. In fact last week they sold out of nearly everything they had.
But that's balanced against the constant fucking harassment.
Not just the weekly protests with bullhorns. The windows were smashed early on. The building was graffitied with a star of David and "fuck Zionism!"
And in 2021, someone graffitied it with “Racist pigz” and “Zionist pigz."
And ater an October 6, 2024 "pro-Palestine" protest, someone covered the restaurant with graffiti saying "Zionists fund murder," "Kamala = murder," "Zionist out of Frisco,” “arms embargo now,” “Dems fund murder,” and “Manny is a Zionist murderer."
In a second, later incident that night, someone also tagged the cafe with the words “death 2 the enemy."
In June 2025, while Manny was at the nearby anti-ICE protest,
"protesters broke into my business, Manny’s, smashed my windows, and painted messages like “Intifada,” “Death 2 Israel is a Promise,” and “Die Zionist” on my walls.'
They also wrote "Fuck Manny."
The local Jewish community raised over $200,000 for repairs, “increased security measures” on site for guests and staff, and financial support to cover lost revenue as a result of the vandalism.
Because even Jewish cafes need security now, I guess.
The windows were actually smashed twice that night. Just another example of the age-old tradition of "we're mad about something political, so we're attacking some Jews!"
Vandals smashed windows and spray-painted hate speech at Manny’s, a community café in the Mission District. Supervisor Jackie Fielder has no
As Manny wrote in 2019:
The far-right has attacked the business and me when they’ve disapproved of a guest speaker. The alt-left has pushed vitriolic lies and hatred on social media.
Claims such as the space is a Zionist takeover of the Mission has emboldened people to walk in off the street and demand to know if the owner is Jewish.
The building has been vandalized with anti-Semitic graffiti, is the target of weekly protests, and the business has been ideologically extorted: tell us if you’re a Zionist so we can try to drive you out of business.
Given the mission of Manny’s, we have invited these individuals into the space for dialogue, but their goal is to shut down discourse, not engage in it.
I knew most of this already.
I remember telling one of my friends about it - a woman who loved Jewish culture and had many Jewish friends, but was also a DEVOTED lifelong antizionist.
She responded with the kind of long silence that meant, "I am deeply suspicious of this story, but I can't think of an argument to justify that."
But reading it all again now, after 2½ years of seeing for myself how incredibly consistently antizionists talk and act like this?
I don't think there's any shred of evidence left to suggest that antizionism is anything but a violent, ignorant hate movement.
It's one thing to know that its arguments range from ahistoric and inaccurate, through disinformation, to just plain bias or hate. And to have posted about dozens and dozens and dozens of attacks on Jews and Jewish organizations, made explicitly in the name of antizionism.
It's another thing entirely to see that the antizionist movement was going straight from those arguments to those acts almost ten years ago.
And that level of speed and commitment means it has to go back even farther.
Meanwhile, when I opened Instagram to see Gay Shame's protest post, I saw this:
Me: "Okay, but what did she actually say, because sometimes people will dramatically paraphrase or just make shit up--"
Newsweek:
Maureen Galindo said she would turn a Texas Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center into a prison for "American Zionists."
"On Monday, Galindo doubled down on her comments, saying in a video: 'When I say that I want billionaire Zionists in prison, that does not mean I want Jews in internment camps. So why am I getting a whole bunch of death threats and MAGA insults?
"'I don't care what religion you are. If you are a Zionist—meaning that you believe that you are just entitled to land or someone's just entitled to land based off of religious beliefs, and that you'll kill all of the Semites for it—then yeah, I think that you're a danger to humanity and belong in prison, especially if you have the political and economic resources to make that happen.'"
OMFG NO ONE HAS EVER SAID THAT. WHY IS SHE ESCALATING FROM THE TERRIBLE CLAIMS PEOPLE ALREADY MAKE? and what the fuck kind of transparent bullshit CYA is calling Palestinians?? I guess?? "All of the semites???"
NO THANKS
In conclusion, THIS TIMELINE IS GARBAGE.
