“oh, i forgot to tell you!” she rolls over onto her stomach, brandishing a soft silver band on her finger that glimmers in the dim light. the apartment is quiet, save for both dogs filling the main room with their ambient noise.

megumi didn’t look up right away, but he made a noise of acknowledgement. he turned a page on his book and reached over idly to stroke his thumb along her ankle.

“i think my birds robbed some poor woman,” she comments idly, raising her hand slightly to show off the band. “they brought me this the other day.”

megumi didn’t think much of it at first. dee’s ravens were known to collect (sometimes steal) random trinkets and shiny objects. the clutter those birds created was overwhelming at first, but overtime— he’d come to not mind it much at all.

once his eyes do lift, however; he finds himself stiffening. he feels the color drain from his face slightly— though he tries hard not to let it show.

to his horror, those birds did not rob some random woman of her ring. those traitorous avians had somehow rifled through his drawers and found his engagement ring he was hiding away. that was her engagement ring she was wearing without even realizing it.

great, he swears to himself. this just fucking fantastic.
