Clangen blog, following the Titular Honeystar and his companion Phloxkit, as they struggle to come to terms with rebuilding NettleClan. Cwâs and info in pinned post. Asks: Open
Honeystar is Alone is a clangen-inspired project; loosely inspired by a run through of the game⌠which I did largely in one sitting and have been rewriting based on context clues in the save file since.
My plan is to have one weekly update, and then occasional ask-answering that I do on breaks from work. Feel free to ask characters (living or dead!) questions, Iâll try to answer them with a doodle. I suppose you can ask me? Questions too? But I wanna keep this blog⌠Clean.
Main blog/interactions from @swordsandspectacles (though if you want animal art/anything relating to warriors, you wonât see it there)
This account is run by a 21+ user.
Content warnings, tag list etc under the cut. âď¸
Content warnings:
Animal Death
Mild to moderate gore
Isolation
Self Harm/Suicidal Ideation
Major character death
Endangerment and death of young characters
Unhealthy/Abusive Relationships
The projectâs format is largely experimental; I want to have fun with it! Style will change here and there, but the general format will be illustration(s) and a short piece of prose to accompany it!
My current pipe-dream is to one day file the warrior cats serial numbers off and print this to make a little booklet/zine with the story in it for selling at cons and such but. Well weâre like 20 moons scripted and 115 played and recorded so. Aha. Weâll have to see how that goes.

Seeing as he got a very loose ref made last night, Darkstar! My little man, whos stripes are never ever going to be consistent again <3
In the very first draft of Honeystar is Alone (a more true sequential comic, drawn traditionally with pencil in a sketchbook) there was actually an extended prolouge between him and Honeyfoot before this all kicked off, but I struggle with speechbubbles, so we're stuck like this instead.
Oh thereâs a ghost near Honeystar! And I think some ghostly shapes in the panels of the burnt camp in moon 1?
(Also will you be adding alt text/image descriptions to this, the previous and next moons? It appears alt text is only on moon 1 and one of the asks right now (or at least to me? Maybe one of Tumblr glitches. But maybe you could add a tag or something for undescribed posts like âno idâ and âadd id laterâ so they can be filtered out)
There sure is!
And yes! I've gone through and fixed all the alt text, I've had a BUNCH of work deadlines on my illustrations gigs and missed it, ty ty!
There seems to be a ghost following Honeyfoot, first appearing when he sees his dead clanmates in moon one, maybe them holding his paw with their paw? And then again in moon 2 alongside him as he watches the dogs!
He's in moon 1 too! Welcome Darkstar to the cast, previous leader of NettleClan and uh. Well, recent StarClan resident!
(You can ask him questions, but he might not always answer straightforwardly)
Honeyfoot had taken to ranging further and further from their new camp, re-establishing some sembalance of a territory for... Was it himself and Phloxkit, or was it Nettleclan? He knew they were likely the only remains of the clan, and that it wasn't wrong to call themselves such... but admitting it would make their lonesome state seem... real.
He elected not to dwell on it.
The sight of loose dogs- one bulky, one slight, one small and yappy, made him concerned... but maybe it would be okay. THey were far off, and seemed tied to the dirt trails he avoided, preferring to hunt in tall grass.
For her part, Phloxkit was bored. Camp had offered butterflies to chase, but no longer as the weather grew colder. So she was set to "Keep Watch", in Honeystar's words; and while she was allowed perch herself wherever she saw fit, she knew pointless busywork when it was given.
Still, she kept very still (save her twitching tail), and very quiet (safe for her aggravated sighs, and hoped a bird would land in camp, and give her a chance to impress Honeyfoot when he returned to find she'd caught them both a meal.
Uneventful moon this week, to the point i might see if I can get a bonus moon out to ye this week. No promises.
Sidenote, there's something minorly hidden in the previous moons (and this one) nobody's noticed yet.
Happy hunting!
This means so much, haha, Lighting is like. my favourite thing to work on in my digital (and traditional) art!
If you ever want a breakdown on a particular piece, I can provide!
But largely because this is a lineless style, there's a lot of lasso tool and glow layers... and airbrush layers... and adjuistment layers after the fact,,,
Also say hi to Speectacles, my sona for all personal question responses! They have a very fluid appearance that changes oh how much detail I want to draw
I was going to give a screenshot of their traits but... more fun to reveal over time.
Also all my screenshots are from the 100 moon mark and i dont wanna go spoiling things
I'm the anon that asked about the refs and I'm DYING INSIDE đ
I kept thinking that I was writing "phlox" wrong but couldn't for the life of me figure out why
I even checked my spelling several times đ
If it makes you feel any better, I do a double-take every single time.
I also live in the deep fear or misspelling something in the text placed directly on the images
If it isn't too much trouble, could we get full body refs of Honey and Plhox?
This is my current reference doc, which contains;
Original sketches of Honey and Phlox from the whole-clan Document (as you can see, Phlox was meant to be a little less baby than she is now) - but we also see the very typical NettleClan shape that Phlox will grow into! Iâm also going to darken her stripes as she grows because I think theyâre a bit faint rn. Colours on that not final.
Meanwhile you can see that Honey crawled out of my brain fully formed. His scars in that sketch are pure flavour, I think heâs still totally unscarred on my ClanGen file still?
Also realising his far hind leg is vanishing on my paper texture bg⌠itâs fine. Itâs fine! I donât reference the far leg colours from this document, I adapt them to the scene.
As you can see also these are not proper references theyâre âSwords (me! Who never introduced themselves!) can colourpick at speedâ blobs. Because Iâd rather draw scenes form the moons than ref sheets.
Honeyfoot had always been instant he wasnât the child-caring sort⌠but fate had other plans, so it seemed. Still, Phloxkit had an insatiable appetite, and with the plains of NettleClanâs territory burned away as they were, hunting on familiar territory was near fruitless.
Still, she was fed, even if he could feel his stomach rumbling.
Heâd gone back to the clanâs home, of course- more in hope than expectation. It had all been ash, save for the remains of his clanmates.
He left them where they were, hoping the smoke had gotten them, rather than the heat and roaring terror.
Phloxkit could learn the truth when she was older. Perhaps they could reclaim this old camp, once prey had returned to the area, and the autumn and winter had passed.
They set out days later, a series of temporary nests in the grass serving as their homes. Phloxâs little legs got tired⌠often, but it was forgiven especially when a stand of stones, strewn about with saplings, was found by the pair; found and found to be uninhabited, even better. The ground was warm, and the tiredness of the last few days caught up with themâŚ
Honeyfoot didnât even complain with Phloxkit snuggled up against his belly, pronouncing his fur most comfortable. Idly he wondered how she was avoiding overheating like this.
Trying a different format today, where I put the text on the images instead of going purely for prose ⌠please let me know which you prefer! Or maybe if youâd want text on images only?
The camp had bern upwind of the fire, set down in a hollow where no cat had much of a chance to take note. Honeyfoot had panicked- of course he had, everyone had taken to shouting and fretting- and nobody had wasted the time it would have taken to organise.
Heâd grabbed Phloxkit and run out onto the plains- trying not to fall behind or be trampled, knowing he could meet up with the others once the danger had passed. She didnât protest for long, understanding his fear, if not the situation.
But they were exhausted, and the camp had burned so very hot, and Honeyfoot had run till his paws bled, and covered quite the distance. . As rain started to fall, bringing an end to the white-hot terror, and the two cats found some meagre shelter, Honeyfoot promised himself- and Phloxkit- and theyâd search for survivors tomorrow.
