"see you next level"
Ficlet, LeoJi, YOI
A little snippet of what was going to eventually be a road trip fic for Leo/Guang Hong, but then I got distracted by a dozen other things and fell out of fandom. Written for a the prompt "one-night stands"
They still hadn't talked about Beijing.
Not to be like oh my god im cooking so hard but the idea of yuri plisetsky having a dark eyes SP and a nothing else matters FS is so fucking good for an otayuri fic im cooking so damn hard im so happy to be back in the goddamn kitchen
Goddammit my obsession with vm moulin rouge and junhwan roxanne is biting me in the ASS
The fic im writing has leo doing a roxanne fs but i also wanted to have a fic where seunggil has roxanne as a sp with turandot as his free
Im aware roxanne is a warhorse but its just such a goddamn banger and it works so well for pining UGH
Autistic things are happening
Also while im on the topic of figure skaters who remind me of yoi characters; alysa liu is the type of character i would love to see yuri plisetsky develop into
I genuinely think after a few tough years as his body changes he'd end up with a similar mentality, especially if he had viktor as a coach
I maaaay also have an idea for a fic where yuri retires young and comes back a few years later
Gonna be so real misha shaidorov reminds me so much of otabek sometimes its likely me projecting but like
Hes shy but a bit mischievous and his favourite part of competitions is when hes on the ice alone with no one to bother him
He didnt do anything traditionally and worked his ass off with barely any funding or support to become kazakhstans first OGM in decades
Every picture i see of him with that thousand yard stare just makes me think of otabek thank you misha for bringing me back to yoi
I have a temptation to go super autism mode and build out an entire program set for each yuri on ice character spanning from 2016-2026
I need help
Ok so i havent quite done that but i made a reference table/google doc if anyones interested
Currently entertaining myself at the thought of a very sexually frustrated viktor jump-spamming in a practice session after yet another night of yuuri turning down a sleepover or claiming his eros is a fucking katsudon
Controversial take maybe but i think yuuri has been fluent in russian the whole time
Like he was a massive viktor fan?? He probably had to search everywhere for all kinds of content with no english or japanese subtitles, hes obviously been to russia to compete before viktor even became his coach
Maybe he took a class in college, but i LOVE the idea of viktor having no clue about this until rostelecom
A reporter asks a question to yuuri after practice and viktors ready to translate or respond and yuuri replies in fluent russian and hes never been so infatuated and surprised but hes also hit with the realisation of "shit, hes understood the things i say the whole time"
This is one of my favorite headcanons too. There is also a fic from Victor’s POV that has this premise as a sort of twist ending which I loooove & which is highly amusing to watch Victor twisting himself up in knots about language. It’s a kind of meditation on language learning at its heart. If you’d like the rec even with that spoiler lemme know! It’s written by one of the top most talented writers in the YOI fandom (though I believe she has moved on to other things now).
Yessss omg please ive fallen back in love with this anime
Here you go!! It’s called “Call Everything On The Ice…” by @shysweetthing and j can honestly recommend every fic she’s written for YOI. They’re all masterpieces in different ways and I reread them all frequently.

(I dunno why it won’t give the usual AO3 preview for that link, I’m on mobile and maybe they broke mobile again. Hell site (derogatory))
Thank you!! I have my bedtime reading now :)
Not to be incredibly hyperfixated rn but i made a spreadsheet of yoi characters and my primary, secondary and teritary points of reference purely for fic writing purposes

yk why yuri on ice is such a unique love story? bc despite their physical attraction to each other it makes it abundantly clear that victuuri did not have a shot at an actual relationship until they let go of their ideas of each other.
for victor that idea is that of banquet yuuri
for yuuri it's childhood idol victor
they're both infatuated with a version of the other that's only conditionally present, short lived, made up or exaggerated. and the story makes a point to actively THWART the possibility of love at first sight. it keeps insisting that it's not love. not yet.
but it's not nothing. they are unquestionably drawn to each other. esp bc the other represents to them something they're yearning in themselves: yuuri is to victor connection, passion, and the feeling of aliveness that he'd become so numb to, so devoid of. victor represents a voice for self-validation, of acceptance from an opinion that seems to matter well above yuuri's own.
but just bc they want that doesn't mean they know how to get it or even accept it for what it is. they constantly miscalculate their moves and misunderstand and upset each other.
but they keep at it. and it grows into something more. the shift is so evident as they go through the motions of GPF. we see their relationship become one of easy familiarity. and you can tell what it is now, without them having to say it to each other or to us. they show us a love story just by building a special relationship and showing why it should matter.
That otabek drawing is lowkey doing better than any of my art back in the yoi heyday
I guess i just needed better art LMAOOOO
