“Something ought be done this time, lest I simply have to find a new supplier-” Which was most certainly wasn’t an easy thing to do; there were not many places of which offered the quality in which Vaux needed, and attempting to form some kind of bond was twice as difficult as that.

Still - there was absolutely no point in worrying about it for the moment; naught more could be done for it for the time being.

Truly, his company’s ability to see the bright side of the situation was rather admirable, and somewhat endearing; Vaux himself oft struggled with such, especially when overly stressed with masses of work.

“Ah- you need not strain yourself carrying all of that back for me, darling~ I can have someone come and collect it later on.” Frankly, he felt as if he wished not to look at it at all for the moment. “Will you accompany me back, sweets-?”

“ Will there be more treats in it for me? ” Zack had meant that as a light hearted remark, quick to follow his retort up with a carefree laugh before tacking on a, “ I’m just kidding! If you’re really okay with just leaving all this, then I guess we’re done here, huh? So, let’s head back. ”

Even if Zack really wouldn’t have minded another detour for food and snacks, he was definitely fine just following Vaux back to where they’d started this entire adventure from. The guy didn’t seem too overly comfortable traversing the streets here, so acting as the other’s temporary bodyguard was something Zack didn’t see that much of a hassle in.

It beat heading back to Shinra headquarters only to be cooped up on SOLDIER Floor awaiting orders for his next assignment....however much longer that’d be.

So Zack would simply motion ahead at that, letting Vaux lead the way to set the pace again. He wasn’t sure what else was on his companion’s to-do list for the day, but as for now, Zack was simply on leisure time.

“When it eats your whole arm, I told you so,” Leanne offered with a sigh. For someone who was supposedly old hat at handling the monsters here, he didn’t seem particularly conscious of the fact that this one was clearly not the norm.

Pitfalls of not seeing magic, she supposed. Taking a few steps back, she studied the way the magic around the creature boiled almost angrily.

“ C’mon! This little thing? He probably couldn’t even stick my entire arm in his mouth, so we’ll be fine! ”

Probably, anyway. In the time it’d taken Leanne to express she was cautious of the creature, Zack had already leaned over the angry little monster. It was plopped down on its stomach; its dangerous back spines pointed straight up in defense of itself as Zack innocently towered over the tiny Headgehog Pie.

“ Hey, do you think it’d warm up to us quicker if we tried to give it some food? Maybe it’s just hungry! ”

Zack had let the first word that’d come to mind be the one he’d blurted out, but if he were being honest with himself, he’d actually been caught off guard plenty of times before. Zack had always felt like he was being kept in the dark about something, whether it were mission parameters or behind the scenes talks -- but that was always fine! He had bigger things to worry about anyway!

“ I guess once you get what you’re working for, then the rest of that stuff just comes pretty easy. Kind of hard to be caught off guard when you’re focused on something already. ” Zack would shrug at that. “ You’ve probably got something you’re working to get, too, right? ”

“ And why not? ” Zack would quick to counter, quickly shifting his attention from the other back out in front of him with a huff. “ It’s not like it can really be that dangerous, right? It looks harmless! ”

Though most monsters that invaded the streets of Midgar’s slums were anything but ‘harmless’, this one looked tame -- or at the very least, easy enough for a SOLDIER like him to deal with. In a way, it almost reminded him a little of a chubby, curious cat; just...less furry and more...prickly.

Hedgehog Pies weren’t usually as small as this one though, so Zack still felt like this one could be different! Maybe he could tame it-

Zack would give a long, thoughtful pause at that, seeming to mull over Sephiroth’s words longer than he probably should’ve. A phrase like that seemed so...out of the ordinary for someone like the silver haired SOLDIER to say. After all, he’d never really thought much of himself as a ‘hero’, had he? At least, not as much as the public and younger members like Zack seemed to hold him to.

Still, calling Sephiroth out on his word choice wasn’t where Zack would go with this, so he’d just give a slightly sarcastic huff instead!

“ So, what? Is that just a more dramatic way to say you’re not takin’ a break right now? Because you can be like that sometimes, too. ”

“ ...Huh? ” Being distracted wasn’t like him, and with a comment aimed directly at him like that one had been, Aqua could clearly tell, too -- but that still wouldn’t stop Zack from glancing up at her with the most confused, lost puppy-like stare he could’ve mustered right then either. He’d definitely been a little lost in though, but how could she tell?

“ Uh, why...? What’s wrong? ” Zack knew she was talking about him and how he was acting, but he’d attempt to play dumb as a cover followed by an innocent blink. “ Is there...something we’ve gotta talk about? ”

“ Yeah, but don’t you think you’re comparing yourself to me just a little too much with that though? ”

Zack would follow his answer up with a small sigh before lifting his hand to plop it directly on top of Cloud’s head -- an action the other was probably more than familiar with from his friend by now. Light hearted hair ruffles were always Zack’s go-to way of telling Cloud he was being too pessimistic and hard on himself, especially when Zack would beam a bright smile at him right after.

“ I mean, c’mon, Cloud! You might not be SOLDIER, but I don’t think anyone could survive the infantry in a place like this without having a little bravery in there somewhere, right? ” Zack would finish his hair ruffle with a playful ‘knock’ to the top of Cloud’s head for emphasis before pulling back. “ Pretty sure you’ve got more courage than you think. ”

Normally, Zack wouldn’t taken a phrase like that as a compliment. He was a hero -- or at least, that’s what he’d always tried to strive for being! Still, Sera and her ‘compliment’ would only be met with a small, exasperated huff this time as Zack shifted his weight to perch his hands up on his hips.

“ A hero can still stop to grab a bite to eat before we finish the rest of this, too, right? ”
