ACROSS her cheeks, a garden began to bloom at the simple gesture.  her next breath, trapped in her throat as a shaky smile crossed her visage as a laughleft her, the sound breathy and unsure, much like her.  that hand was covered in scars, and melody’s kiss felt healing.  and for a moment, a mere second, skylar felt as if everything was okay.  but in another, fleeting second, that feeling was gone.  slowly, she slipped her hand from melody’s gentle grip, letting it fall to her side.   ❝ .....t-thanks. ❞  and that gesture will always mean so much more to her than melody will ever know.

❝ a-are you drunk ?? ❞  skylar says quickly, though her cheeks are already blooming like a garden with red, red roses, the color touching the tips of her ears.  of course, she’s thought about a future with melody, it’s crossed her mind many times, more than she cares to say, but this.....this was a bit much.  ❝ n-now, don’t get me wrong, mel.  i do love you, but.....i-i’m not an adult.  i-i’m not even a junior in high school for god’s sake.  a-and god knows what my parents would say. ❞  running a tiny hand through her hair, skylar sighed, shaking her head.  her parents had wanted her to have more friends her own age, and she’d wound up being friends with melody instead.  her parents didn’t want her dating anyone who was more than a year older than her, and now look where she was.  not that she minded, god no.  melody made her happier than she ever dreamed she could be, happier than she sometimes thought she deserved.  but skylar was only on the verge of being 16, and she’d need her parents permission, and they would surely say no.

❝ ..........i-it’s....it’s not l-like i don’t want to marry you, i just.....i’m hardly mature enough, plus with my parents and all.  i-i’d like to at least finish high school first. ❞  she said, frowning.  but after a moment, she took melody’s hands in her own, giving them a gentle squeeze and a warm smile.  ❝ .......this isn’t a no, mel. it’s just.....putting a pin in it, okay ??  if.....if you can wait.....wait 2 years.....and if we’re still....still together a-and.....and you still want to marry me.....i promise i’ll say yes. ❞  she spoke softly, tilting her head to the side with a soft laugh.  she doubted they’d last that long, honestly.  melody was an adult, and if she decided she didn’t want to wait for skylar to grow up and be ready for marriage, that was fine.  anyone would be lucky to have melody, and they’d especially lucky to marry her.  and that was a scary thought.  two years was a long time to wait.  what if melody didn’t want to ??
