Why is marijuana Illegal and has such a bad reputation?

Why does it have this bad reputation? Because of the Reagan era anti-drug campaign, the reason that marijuana was made illegal in the first place, and peoples negligence. It was the reagan era just say no campaign that really gave people the thought that if you smoke weed you will end up on the streets hooked to heroin or crack. Sure most if not all drug users probably tried marijuana before crack, coke or whatever, but that does not make it a “gateway drug”. All that that means is that they tried weed first. The reagan era anti-drug campaign really pushed for negligence rather than actual knowledge. This fear of marijuana was birthed not from the Reagan era, not from the “reefer madness” of the 50’s but from the early 1900’s when marijuana was made illegal. It was made Illegal under the guise of Harry J. Anslinger. This man was extremely driven and equally racist. Here is a quote to give you a quick view of the tactics that this man used.

“…the primary reason to outlaw marijuana is its effect on the degenerate races.”

“Marijuana is an addictive drug which produces in its users insanity, criminality, and death.”

“Reefer makes darkies think they’re as good as white men.”

“Marihuana leads to pacifism and communist brainwashing”

“You smoke a joint and you’re likely to kill your brother.”

“Marijuana is the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind.”

Now try imagining someone trying to make marijuana illegal with these tactics today? Why is it that one mans racist and honestly bullshit justifications to make marijuana illegal have kept marijuana illegal? It is because of people negligence to accept new thoughts or to look past what the media tells them. People (and not in regards to marijuana but also in regards to politics and world issues) place no importance on the truth. They accept what Fox, CNN, NPR, ABC, CBS, and the BBC tell them. They do no research on their own. They do not concern with themselfs with the question of ”why” . It is because of this that marijuana has remained illegal, politicians do what they please, and the corporations do what they please. I ask all of you to not only ask questions but to find your own answers. I ask you to not be complacent. I ask you to speak up!
