70 deaths in Nice no no no no what the hell
Honestly I will always be grateful to Brooklyn 99 for giving us “cool motive, still murder” as a quick, no-frills response to all these weak white boy villains with woe-is-me backstories that fandoms inevitably try to woobify.
i know everyone is panicking rn and i am too but i’d just like to emphasize that the referendum is not actually legally binding in any way. the government is not legally required to act on the result. it’s basically just a very fancy opinion poll.
while the pressure to respect the vote of the people and the democratic process will be intense, the results were so incredibly polarizing (especially since scotland and northern ireland unequivocally voted remain and the leave result is literally solely england’s fault), and the consequences would be so devastating that there is a definitive chance the government could elect not to invoke article 50 of the lisbon treaty anyway.
they are very likely not gonna ignore it outright but they might take the issue to a parliamentary vote instead, which ironically could be argued for as the kind of parliamentary sovereignty leave voters complained brussel is taking away from the uk. if this should happen, MPs are majority pro EU and would very likely vote to remain.
considering the the pound has had its worst drop since 1985 and is still freefalling and the international stock markets were already reporting fatal crashes while a leave win was just projected, not even sure, the horrific economic effects leaving the eu would have should become clear quickly and might sober up quite a few people who didn’t (or didn’t want to) realize how catastrophic the result would be.
Britain leaving the EU is like shooting yourself in both feet and then trying to crawl back to safety when you realise that was a dumb thing to do. Y’all are gonna have to ask the EU for a free trade deal anyway…
This is the reality, as put by the BBC:
Pending a [new trade deal with the EU], the UK will trade with the EU under World Trade Organization (WTO) rules.
That would mean UK exporters paying new EU import tariffs and facing non-tariff barriers, in the same way that China and the US trade with the EU. UK services - accounting for 80% of the UK economy - would lose their preferential access to the EU single market.
Free trade deals that the EU negotiated with 53 countries, including Canada, Singapore and South Korea, will no longer apply to the UK. If the UK wants the benefits of them it will have to renegotiate with those countries.
The Remain camp said full access to the EU single market - the world’s biggest free trade area with 500 million consumers - was crucial for the UK. But free movement of workers, payments into the EU budget and acceptance of the EU rulebook are conditions for that access.
The EU is unlikely to bend on those conditions, because it does not want more members to leave the club. The UK might well sign up to those conditions, but it would not be able to influence EU rules, as it would lack a vote.
Basically the UK is in the economic pits for the next few years.
oh no what have you done
I don't complain often you know but when you take an exam which could be important for your whole future and the teacher is asking for things that are not even realistic i mean just why ?? Do you take pleasure in our failure ?? Does it make you sleep better at night knowing you fucked us up ??

And it’s a human need to be told stories. The more we’re governed by idiots and have no control over our destinies, the more we need to tell stories to each other about who we are, why we are, where we come from, and what might be possible.
i can tell you the saddest story in the world. take a girl, with thunder rolling just beneath her bones, a hurricane girl with a tsunami smile and lightning crackling between her pupils. and then take a boy, whose heart has been clenched between the fist of the devil, whose smirk is merely a crack that his broken flesh could not mend. shove them together the way a fire meets gasoline: an inferno. the way the ocean meets the shore: an inevitability. shove them together and tape them there with poorly applied glue and circumstance. shove them together and place crowns made of gold atop their heads, crowns forged from the blood of the gods they conquered. the glue may break, the crowns may tarnish - but the girl built of stormy winds and the boy made of hell’s crumbling buildings will stay together. (together, together, together.) until the death of thousands takes their toll, until the burden the gods tucked between their young shoulders grows as heavy as the globe. (together, together, together.) i can tell you the saddest story in the world. shove them together, and then break them apart.
may they meet again (h.q.)
Bellamy, you really believe this crap?
