the two girls could notice a female red wolf that was climbing over some rubble even if sometimes it fell because of the easy irregularity of the rubble.

as soon as the wolf fell for the fourth time, she uttered a pained sound and said to herself, hoping that no one would hear it and not yet noticing the presence of the two neighboring girls

“damn … how can I help others if I’m so damned clumsy?”

Indigo’s ears twitched when she heard someone grunting in pain and speaking which caused the Jackal head towards the direction of the sound as she wonder who could else was wandering in the city.

Jasime followed behind as she jumped off the rubble when Indigo started to walk away from her and into a direction where she heard some noises... It’s seem her friend had also noticed it as well and it wasn’t part of her imagination.

It didn’t take them long to find out what the noise was considering how close they were as they came across the wolf with Jasmine being the first person to approach her and greet her.

“Hi there!” She called out loudly whilst waving which earn a small grunt from the jackal.

“I disappointed you …. I accepted the work by the doctor and ….. I let myself be defeated by that damn hedgehog …. an inescapable behavior …. I had the task to protect you .. .. ” he said sadly as he sat on a rock and rolled his tail up on himself

then he continued “after my humiliating defeat, the doctor gave me the power …. he inserted me in my DNA this gem called phantom ruby …. thanks to it I was …. I became invincible … . all were under my feet ”

Indigo shook her head when Finn said that he had disappointed her however she remain quiet as she was curious what had happened after she ran away from base.

Jasmine was also listening quietly to the other’s story as she wanted to know what happened as well especially considering she knew next to nothing about what happen to the Jackals’ past.

“Hmm... I see... What happened next? Also what exactly is the phantom ruby?” Indigo asked in curiosity; wondering how a ruby could make one invincible as well she wanted to know what had happened afterwards; having a feeling that the aftermath was related to the war.

“I’m also curious about the phantom ruby... I never heard anything like that before.” The pink cat replied while nodding to Indigo’s questions but hoping that the questions weren’t personal.

the memory of that moment and of how he was defeated and humiliated were still in his thoughts … and he wanted nothing more than to take revenge to recover his pride

pressing the hand on the mask sighed slightly in gratitude, moving the long bushy tail on the ground “at least you managed to save yourself …. i know it….you have great skills …. and much more”

then he looked down and in a tone of pain said “I … I’m sorry …. it’s all my fault and my pride …. because of me our team no longer exist …. and you have suffered. … I will never forget and forgive myself for this ” maybe it could not be seen because of the mask but he was crying. it was also evident of how he writhed that he was in full pain

Indigo nodded as her held to her arms tightly although she did wonder why the other was emanating a red aura and when he got the ruby on his chest... It was clearly after the jackal squad was defeated and she ran away.

“Thank you for the compliments... And it’s not your fault...” She spoke softly. “We didn’t know that any of this would happened... None of us knew that working for that man would result our squad being shattered.”

She looked away; letting a sigh as she always wonder what would happened if Finn had deny Eggman’s offer considering they were surrounded by his robots... Would they been killed or suffer a worse fate? Or would they still be together?

Questions that were no relevance as the past couldn’t be changed.

“Ummm... I know it’s none of my business but what exactly happened to you and your squads? I mean it must be something bad considering your conversation.” Jasmine asked.

It was eerily quiet….

The first thing that Indigo noted as she was walking around as there was no sound of explosions, bullets firing or anything… It was as if she walked into a ghost town.

Did something happen?

One wouldn’t expect those sounds to be so common however it made sense during the six months as a war had broken out between two sides…

The Eggman Empire and the Resistance.

The results?

The city that once stood grand were now in ruins from the result of both side fighting each other for six months whilst the jackal fought to survive during those time with a certain pink cat.

She didn’t want to get involved in either side. She wasn’t a hero nor was she a villain.

Although one could consider herself as a bad guy if they met seven months ago as she had worked with Doctor Eggman even if it was a few weeks and her squad were hired by the man.

The squad she ran away from after being beaten up badly… Realizing there was more to life then to steal and work for a mad man.

The jackal let out a soft sigh before sitting down on a edge of a footpath, which used to have fences before it was destroy, and admiring at the sun rising. She honestly found it rather relaxing especially with how quiet the world was.

It made her forget that there was a war happening.

then he turned back to Indigo and crossed his arms “anyway, I’m happy to see you again …. but do you know something about the others?” and how did you escape? “ he asked intrigued, since he cared a lot for his team … and he was very missing

“Same here.... It still haunts me to this day.” Indigo nodded as Jasmine’s tilted her head; clearly not understand part of the conversation however she didn’t mind considering the way they were speaking; it was something bad... Anyway Jasmine gave a smile when the bow to greet her.

Indigo shook her head as she let a soft sigh as she closed her eyes briefly before opening them again

“No, I do not... I haven’t heard anything at all and with the war happening.... I would imagine it will be hard to track them down.... That if they are still alive.” She answered as she always often wonder if the others survive their encounter and just scattered.... The jackal hopes so so that they reunited again and become a squad again.

“Ah... After I was beaten by him and sustain some really bad injuries... I had.... No choice to run otherwise I probably wouldn’t be standing here... After all I ran away.... I passed out....” Indigo admitted in shame as her ears lower. She hated that she had to run with her tails in between her legs. She hated it and even; it nearly costed her life and it was pure chance that she manage cling to her life... 

Thanks to a certain cat coming across....

“Ohh! So those injuries were caused by a fight you got into? I remember finding you passed out and suffering really badly so I decided to lend a helping out and nurse you back to health even if you were really grumpy.” Jasmine commented.

on hearing that name, the masked jackal was speechless. as if a flash hit him. it was really her … the only girl from his old assault team

in amazement, he took a step back before shaking his head to recover from the blow and saying in a surprised but less aggressive tone …. almost friendly “Indigo? …. are you really the only girl of the jackal squad?….”

to try to be as clear as possible, he put his hands on the mask and took it away so that she could recognize him. he was sure that she was the girl of his unforgotten squad and for this why he put away the mask “I’m Finn …. the boss of the jackal squad …. do you remember?”

removing the mask was a very shameful sign for him at the time. but the memories prevailed and made him make that decision … obviously as soon as she had recognized him, he would have put the mask on his face

Indigo raised a eyebrow when the other suddenly went quiet and took a step back from her as if telling her name physically hurt him which caused her drop a bit of her guard even when he recover from it.

Even Jasmine tilted her head; puzzled by the other’s reaction as she remain quiet; figuring the conversation was important between her friend and the masked stranger.

Indigo’s eyes slightly widen when the tone of voice changed from aggressive to surprise and almost friendly however the moment he mention the jackal squad; she was caught off guard herself and her eyes widen even more. 

How did the stranger possible know that she was once a member of the Jackal Squad?

Her question was soon answered when the stranger removed the mask and revealed his face.... A face that Indigo could never forget.... One that she thought that she would never see again after the assault caused by a black hedgehog.

“Boss...?” Indigo spoke quietly as her arms dropped to the side with her tails dropping as well; clearly surprised to see him however she gave a small nod.

“Geez.... Of course I do! I thought... I didn’t hear anything about you for months to the point where I thought you were killed when... you know.... He attacked...” Indigo spoke, saying her last words bitterly, as she walked closer to Finn; not caring the slightest when he placed his mask back on. 

She hated that black hedgehog... She hated it..... It was one the worse time when they cross path.... It was separated her from the squad.... Her family... At least it allow her to meet Jasmine... But even then... The memories were still bitter.

The jackal quickly signal to Jasmine that it was safe whom happily picked the bag off the floor, finishing the bread that she was eating and quickly went to Indigo’s side.

“Hai.” Jasmine greeted excitedly and giving a small wave as she was happy that the stranger and Indigo knew each other meaning a fight wan’t going to break out, she get to know Indigo and her past more as well being acquainted with a person that Indigo know; maybe even be friends with them as well.
