Head drops back easily against the wall. She has care in her actions, trying her best to not making any loud noises to alert the silent stalker that lurked somewhere beyond the realm of their safe zone. Though, had this truly been a safe zone? They were in Haddonfield, a place that Rylan was wise enough to know was Michael’s stalking grounds. The one person who probably knew the place better than any of them, except, maybe Laurie. The thought cause the small hairs on the back of neck to stand on end and she absentmindedly raises an hand to rub at them before running her fingers through long, onyx locks of hair. She lets a soft sigh escape her lips, light blue gaze shifting to look out into the darkness of the pouring rain. Kate had chosen a good room to hold out in. There was only one way in but they had different exits, unless the tall bulky man decided to body block the door. It’d be a nice rush of a drop to the ground but it’d be worth the fall, especially if they both made it without a scratch from whatever weapon Michael had decided was good enough for him here, in this trial. Rylan lets her tongue dart between her lips, wetting them for a moment as she looses herself in her thoughts. They got lucky, surviving for this long and actually completing a generator but she was smart enough to know that from here on out, it was going to be a challenge. Things weren’t going to be easy with just the two of them but if this place had taught Rylan anything, it was that she was going to have to trust the girl she shared a safe haven with and that thought brought a comforting smile to her lips. “I guess we’re stuck here, now.” She half jokes, half laughs a little but in realty, she realizes how true her words really are. There was no escape into that downfall and they’d be stupid if they thought they could sneak out against someone who had perfected the act of sneaking.
Kate’s words only cause Rylan’s soft smile to grow, head shifting so she can train her gaze on the girl and she lets a moment pass between them, Rylan, sitting upon the floor with one knee dragged to her chest and the other out straight, her ability to see out the door was easy, considering she was sitting against the wall across from the country singer who was placed upon a mattress, her knees to her chest, arms around them. Rylan wanted to reach out, offer a comforting hand but was there a place for that? As they had both seemed comfortable in each other’s presence. Something that Rylan wasn’t exactly used to with a lot of the other survivors. “Thanks. I’ll take that as compliment. Though, I’ll admit I’m better with a motor inside a vehicle but I realized, there’s not much fo a difference between one of those and a generator.” A small pause follows, as the young girl lifts a hand to tuck loose strands of hair behind the shell of her ear. “I’m glad you’re my partner too. You’re a pretty calm force and entire badass wrapped into one.” Rylan’s smile grows just then, gaze staying upon Kate before glancing to the door, always checking her surroundings, knowing fully well that the two couldn’t be more prepared or more safe than with each other. “That sounds like a damn good idea. I think if we work together we definitely can pull it off. Though, I don’t think we’re gonna get out of here without a scar or two but at least we can show the others that we’re damn good together, right?”
“It took me forever and a day to learn how to repair one of those properly. I felt so bad that I kept messin’ em up. I hated when people would join me on one ‘til I got the hang of it,” Kate laughed, though ensured to keep her tone on the quiet side to avoid giving away their location. She was a pretty fast learner, but generators had been difficult to get the hang of. Pushing herself to her feet, she left her position at the mattress and came to stand by the door. She just wanted to make sure it was clear and that Michael wasn’t coming up the stairs or looming nearby. He was so quiet, it was easy to be unaware of his presence. It made her feel bad for Laurie, who must’ve been so incredibly scared out of her mind to deal with him outside of the realm.
“We’ll definitely have to stick together,” Kate agreed as she turned away from the doorway and leaned up against the wall. With her sleeves pulled over her palms, she rubbed at her arms to try to keep herself warm. It was a cold night at Haddonfield and the rain only made it worse. A rising concern of hers was that Michael would probably know that they were looking to get out of the rain. Working on generators in this type of weather wasn’t easy or practical. It was too hard to see what they were doing and it made everything more slippery. Not to mention the fact that the cold would numb their fingers. Haddonfield was a big enough town with a lot of houses, at least, but she didn’t feel at ease staying indoors for too long. Michael was smart and would check the house sooner or later.
“I don’t know if it would be wiser for both of us to be on the generator or for one of us to keep watch so we can make a quick ‘n quiet escape before he gets to us. One method is faster, the other is safer.” Personally, she was leaning towards the safer option since Michael didn’t have to search for four people anymore. It was down to two, which meant there wouldn’t be anyone around to distract him. “Actually...It might not be a bad idea to work on the generators when he expects us to be inside. Plus, the rain makes it harder to hear. I know it ain’t ideal, but it might be our best bet for makin’ it outta here. Thoughts?”

It had only been just under a week since Shiloh had found herself stumbling into the realm, but with the gloomy and increasingly brutal circumstances under which herself and all of the survivors lived, it felt like a lifetime longer. The apparitions that had been haunting her for most of her life had perhaps given her a bit of an edge in terms of dealing with the horrors of this accursed place, but all of her trauma could only prime her so much, for there weren’t many that could become accustomed to being tortured by the blade of a killer or the bite of a cannibal, let alone being dangled in the air by means of a giant hook through their chests.
During her time here, she’d met a handful of people. Rylan was somebody that she was especially thankful for, as she’d been the one to teach her how to repair generators, and she’d spent some time going on the occasional late-night walk with her. She couldn’t say that they were friends, but she counted herself fortunate to at least have somebody that she felt comfortable around. She had Salem too, who had entered the realm at the same time as her, and while she couldn’t say that they were exceptionally close, he was somebody that she’d known for many years, and she was glad that she had his company, as cold and prickly as it was at times.
Shiloh had spotted the guitar while sitting at the campfire, her dark brown gaze occasionally drifting over to it over the course of a few minutes before she finally decided to ask about it. As she’d guessed, the instrument belonged to the pretty blonde girl with the country accent. It brought a smile to her lips, however faint it was. “Yeah, a bit of piano and the guitar. I used to play all the time. I never played for crowds though, unless you count busking in the subway station,” she laughed lightheartedly. “I miss it.”
“Do you mind if I see it?”
In the realm, everyone Kate met so far had such vastly different backgrounds and passions, and it’d been quite some time since she’d met someone else who liked to play the guitar and sing. There were people who could carry a tune and not sound terrible at karaoke, but there was nothing quite like meeting another musician-someone who was passionate about it and could have discussions with her about it. Whether it was about what inspired them, what kind of music they liked to play, or meanings behind different songs. It was just fun to talk about.
“No way. I’m sorry you ended up here, but it’s so cool to finally meet someone else who can use this,” Kate spoke enthusiastically, a big smile on her face as she reached for her guitar. It was her prized possession and she couldn’t imagine being without it in such a desolate place. Everyone could agree that music was therapeutic. With the guitar gripped in her hand, she handed it over to Shiloh to allow her to take it. “Everyone has to start somewhere.” Like Shiloh, Kate had started off with busking and getting onto stages wherever possible--namely in places like pubs. Eventually, she began to make a name for herself and had a growing number of fans. She wouldn’t consider herself famous, but rather up and coming.
“Can ya sing too?” She asked, lowering her hands to rest them in her lap once Shiloh had taken the guitar. Despite being a country singer with a deep love for that type of music, she could appreciate all of it and had covered songs outside of the genre. She had mad respect for the people who could rap and for the people in heavy metal, because she couldn’t even begin to imagine how hard it would be on their vocal cords. “We could do duets. It’d be so much fun.”

Hearing negative comments from other survivors in the realm always made Kate’s heart ache. Hope was what the entity fed off of, and the more hopeless survivors felt, the closer they came to becoming a cold, emotionless person to join all the others who’d given up. “Hush. You can’t be sayin’ stuff like that,” she gently scolded Bellamy as she knelt down in front of him. Delicate hands carefully peeled away the bloody fabric that clung to his side, revealing the stab wound that he’d received. It was hard to get a good look at it when there was blood still seeping out of it, but she wasn’t about to just give up on him. In her eyes, anyone could still be saved if they were still breathing. “You’re bleedin’ pretty bad. Lucky for you, I remember seein’ a spare medkit in the basement.” It would hopefully contain enough stuff for her to be able to quickly stitch him up and bandage him, even if he’d be in a weakened state for the rest of the trial. It was better than losing him completely and letting the entity take another piece of his soul.
Leaning to the side a little, Kate peered around the large rock to make sure that they were still in the clear. It was foggy and hard to see, but the killer shack was nearby and she had faith that she’d be able to get in and out quickly enough--especially since the lock had already been picked and she wouldn’t have to waste time doing it herself. She was convinced Bellamy would be safe, hidden between the large rock and a tree that cast shadows over him. The odds of the killer spotting him in an area that wasn’t even near a generator was pretty slim, lest he made too much noise. “Wait here for me. I’ll make it quick.”

The trial was dragging on particularly long this time around, with four generators still needing to be completed before the exit gates could be powered on. To make matters worse, it was down to just Kate and Rylan left. As optimistic as Kate wanted to remain, she knew that the odds were heavily stacked against them. It would take a long time to get all of the generators done, and that was if Michael didn’t catch them first. There was no telling where he was lurking around in the town of Haddonfield, but she wasn’t eager to leave the house and go venturing out into the pouring rain in the dead of night. It made it too hard to see and it would be just her luck to walk straight into Michael.
Sitting on one of the mattresses, Kate hugged her knees to her chest and looked over at Rylan, who had voiced the same thing she’d been thinking. “Y’know, I’m lucky that you’re my partner in a situation like this. It ain’t easy to repair those generators, but havin’ a mechanic sure does speed it up,” she said, fingers toying with the frayed ends of her sleeves while she stared out the window. There was only one way into the room they were in, so if Michael were to sneak up on them, they would have to jump. “Once it stop rainin’ so hard, we can scope out the gens left and figure out a plan. If we’re real careful, I think we can pull it off.”
@salemtwentysix said: “ i’m going to hell & i’m late for it. ” (from Salem)
Pressing her lips together, Kate attempted to stifle her laughter but was quick to fail. The way Salem said it so seriously made her feel almost bad for laughing, but she figured he was just the type to have a dry and morbid sense of humor. At least, that was what she hoped. She hadn’t known him for very long, as he had only just recently arrived in the realm and didn’t seem to be the most open or talkative type. To Kate, who was always good at empathizing with others, she found him to be a little harder to read compared to the others. “I’m sorry,” she laughed, her hand lifting to cover her mouth and her head ducking a little.
“You just got here, an’ I haven’t even gotten a chance t’ get to know ya yet. Besides, ain’t it common knowledge that only the cool people show up late?” She teased, cocking a brow and allowing her gaze to meet with Salem’s. If showing up late really was cool, that definitely took her off the list. She hated being late and was more likely to show up early. “Gandalf’s words might be something to live by. You’ve seen Lord of the Rings, right?”
@bloodredfirework said: "Is that your guitar? Do you play?"
Kate sat on the ground in front of the campfire, her back leaned up against a log behind her. There was quiet chatter among the other survivors who sat nearby, waiting for the others to return from their trial. They’d been gone for a long time now, but Kate supposed it was good news that nobody had returned yet. It meant they were still alive. With her guitar resting beside her, leaned up against the log, she was always ready to help lift peoples spirits with music. No longer did she feel compelled to play that same, gloomy, awful melody that had been stuck in her head before she entered the realm.
Tilting her head upwards after being approached by one of the newcomers, Kate soon smiled at Shiloh’s question and gave a small nod of her head. “Sure is! I’m lucky that I was able to keep it with me when I came here. I know a few people had stuff that was taken off of em. Sometimes I wonder if it would be taken from me too if I brought it into a trial ‘n smashed a killer over the head with it,” she began to explain, giving a small shrug of her shoulders paired with a widening grin. “I used to play all the time. Writin’ songs and singin’ in front of crowds was my favorite thing to do.” Sure, she’d hit a low point before coming here and her inspiration had been drained, but she was determined to get out of this place and start over.
“What about you? Play any instruments?”
