Nick (or Abel) Nevarez was one of Richard’s good friends. On October 7th 1980, Richard was in the backseat of a van, driven by another friend, when it crashed into a fence. Nevarez got impaled by a pole that went right through him and killed him. Richard saw the whole thing.

Richard on acid

Richard lived with his sister Rosa and her second husband Gilbert in the late 1970s. Richard and Rosa would smoke weed together every day, and Richard would also take acid often. According to Gilbert, Richard became more aggressive when he was on acid, and he talked about sex a lot. He would also talk about the devil and about evil. Gilbert saw him scribble and doodle pentagrams when he was high on acid, and he would laugh an evil laugh.

According to another friend during that time, Cynthia Melendez, Richard was a very calm and passive person usually. But when he was on acid, he became a totally different person. He would talk to people in a disrespectful way and he had a very spooky laugh that was completely different from his normal laugh.

Richard bought a 1976 green Pontiac, 2-door, white vinyl over green, in May or June 1985 off an acquaintance at the Greyhound Bus Depot. The vehicle cost $500 but Richard only had $450, so he still owes the acquaintance $50 (rip).

According to the seller, there was no body damage to the car during purchase, but when he saw Richard driving around in it about a month later, the right front fender was smashed in.

After Richards’s arrest, police found the car parked in Avenue 23 in Lincoln Heights. A pentagram was drawn in pencil on the vinyl dashboard. There was a white coffee cup in the glove compartment, and a pair of cheap handcuffs under the right front seat.

Alejandro Espinoza was a friend of Richard’s back in 1985/1984

They used to carpool together when both found jobs as day workers. But Alejandro grew suspicious when he was asked to make frequent stops at out of the way places, where Richard would give goods to an unknown man (Felipe Solano) in Echo Park, who in turn would give Richard cash. Alejandro suspected the man was a fence and Richard was selling stolen property.

On August 26th 1985, Alejandro called the LA police and reported that he knew a guy called ‘Richard’ who sold stolen goods to a fence.

Three days later, a fingerprint was found at a crime scene and matched to Ramirez. Alejandro was called into the police station and he identified the man in the 1984 mugshot as being his friend Richard.

Alejandro would be receiving the second-largest chunk of the bounty reward because he provided the link between the stolen items of murder victims and Richard Ramirez. However, Alejandro went missing and never collected his $6,388.81 reward.

To this day, Alejandro, his wife and two kids have never been found.
