taehyung is a good actor. and jungkook does not know the boundary between the acting and the reality anymore at this point.
at this point, the moment where taehyung suddenly stops and looks into his eyes, his gaze gradually softens and turns into something more serene, as if he is genuinely happy to see jungkook. healed from whatever stole the sun from his eyes.
it’s not like jungkook is doing something sweet to him. all he did was wrapping his arms around taehyung’s waist and hoists him up just to carry him out of the room, just because yoongi said something about him being too noisy again and as usual, they are out of the room followed by jimin’s laughter.
he didn’t notice the sad look in taehyung’s eyes at first, though.
taehyung always looks happy. he has the default happy and cute image that he shows to the world, to make it a better place, as he always claims to do. but jungkook also notices this look sometimes, the hurt crossing the pair of eyes and the glimpse of his lips tugged down into a frown.
it only takes a moment for taehyung to gets back into his usual bubbly self, as he throws his arms around jungkook’s neck and pretends to choke him. “die, you little trash-truck. you can’t keep taking me out like this!” he exclaims, trying to wriggle his way out of jungkook’s iron hold around him, to no avail, of course, as jungkook refuses to let go. not until he is certain why taehyung is sad in the first place.
there is no word about it coming out from his mouth, however, and he’s only left dumbly staring at the elder until taehyung notices the lack of reaction and finally drops his acting. “what’s the matter?”
“what’s the matter?” he asks back.
the light is extinguished yet again from taehyung’s eyes, not that there was any real light to begin with. he’s set back to stand on his own two feet, but he is not moving away, keeping his hold around jungkook while they stand in the middle of the corridor almost awkwardly, sticking out like a sore thumb.
“eh, I guess I just got enough of being treated like I’m an idiot most of the time... like, I’m not actually that bad?”
jungkook only hums at the confession. he is watching as the lines form in between taehyung’s brows, and how the expression really does not suit the hyung. he is watching as taehyung thinks about it more, and more, until he looks absolutely troubled, more than ever before.
seeing this, something clicks in jungkook’s head, and he smiles. a cheeky smile, all bunny teeth and impishness.
“yeah, maybe just 50% of the time, but that’s our mission, right, hyung? we need to keep the artificial intelligence a secret until we develop a program to fix them, the real idiots.”
taehyung blinks a few times, totally clueless at first, before he finally registered the situation and mirrors the grin in jungkook’s face. he pulls away right then, taking all the warmth away from jungkook’s arms.
“well then, we gotta get back fast and watch their development, baby. they might go savage without us in there,” taehyung says with a wink.
the look is there again, for a split second as their gazes met in a silent agreement. this is their own little world, something that only the two of them have and no one else. only in this world that jungkook is free to decipher taehyung’s gaze however he wants.
only in this world that he gets to see kim taehyung falling for him.
and as he watches taehyung slides out completely from within his arms and waddles back into the waiting room, he figures out that maybe, it is good enough for now.
