Danny quietly accepted that, as it was reasonable enough and to argue would be foolish. He needed to learn to stop interjecting his own ideas and protests into the lessons of his masters. He listened and nodded slightly, biting his lip and trying to hold back all the questions that welled up on his tongue, only some of which he knew Murdock could actually answer.

“Please pardon this student,” he finally asked, his curiosity overwhelming him, though he only half-expected to be answered at all. “But why did you become the Daredevil?”

Matt can tell that Danny is attempting to restrain himself from something. The way he breathes makes him think it is words, questions; but it could also simply be another trick, this entire charade just a simple ploy to catch him off guard. It’s obvious in the way he strains his body against his seated position, he’s doing his utmost not to move a muscle.

Then the question of all questions comes, and it’s too difficult not to tell him the truth. “The man that killed my father, went by the name, the Fixer. He wasn’t a good man, and through some bad business deals my father was backed into a corner. Thing about the Murdock boys, is that when you back us in a corner, we swing with everything we’ve got. Problem is, my dad wasn’t bulletproof and the consequences of his actions caught up with him. My dad was a good man, don’t get me wrong, he just didn’t know what he was doing until it was too late.” Matt straightens up before continuing. “I wanted to learn to use my abilities to go after the Fixer, and when I did I scared him so badly he had a heart attack. On the way home that night I stopped a mugger,” he pauses for effect.

“And I liked the feeling too much. The rest is history.”
