The unicorn raised an eyebrow, but if he had thoughts regarding the slip of words, he made no mention of them. The faeâs enthusiasm was somewhat infectious, and when Fionn placed his hand on the paper to make a magical duplicate for Freyr to take as receipt, the spell was done with equal flourish.Â
He let out a muffled snort, and waved away the other boy with a hand, the other moving to stifle proper laughter. Geez, he was almost as bad as Daring trying to woo princesses. Neatly, he set the container binding the plant to safety until it was removed into the paper bag with his shopâs logo printed on the front. â As if I didnât already have enough destiny complications. Iâm afraid Iâll have to humbly decline, â he laughed. Moving from behind the counter, he crossed the room to his lavender box, snipped a few of the blooms with the scissors in his apron, and tied them neatly with a bit of black ribbon. Re-joining Freyr, nimble fingers slid the stems into the front pocket of the other boyâs vest. â On the house. Iâll meet you at the forest entrance, then. â Taking up his proper place once more, the register dinged. â I have a â Pay What You Can â policy. It keeps customers coming back, and my family has more gold than they know what to do withâ this shop is largely just a labor of love. How aboutâŚyou give me half of what you have, and spend the rest having a nice evening with your girlfriend, hm? âÂ
âDestiny complications?â Freyr asked. âIâve never known unicorns to have all that much complexity to their roles. Then again, Iâve never known a unicorn. Still, must be nice to have someone to be instead of waiting to be replacedâŚâ
He took the flower and patted his pocket after Fionn slipped the lavender in to make sure it was secure, a light blush forming at the gesture. He wasnât used to people getting that close to him unless they were about to take a swing at him for flirting with their partner.
He pulled his coinpurse out of his pocket and handed Fionn everything inside. âYou might as well take it as thanks for the lavender; our kind of ânice eveningâ doesnât involve money. You could put this to better use than me, especially if youâre still going to school. Leave it by the Hocus Latte stand or something for people who donât have as much, if nothing else.â
Fionn grew very still, and sighed softly. A quiet sort of melancholy settled upon his features, as the pot of ivy beside the register extended to tangle around his fingers in an attempt to comfort him. â ...I couldnât find a replacement if I tried. Iâm the last free one of them, â he murmured to the Fae. It would seem as if the other prince had accidentally struck a nerve. Clearing his throat, he managed a smile; though it lacked some of itâs previous luster. â Ah, but-- itâs a nice day. Iâd rather not get too deep into heavier topics.â The generosity of his present company made the boy blink. Any other time, he might have inquired what their version of â nice evening â included; but considering who he was looking at and the described nature of Freyrâs girlfriend, the unicorn elected not to. Instead, he untangled his hand with patient fingers, and accepted the gold. â If you insist. Iâll see it finds good use.â Behind them both, the chimes rang, and a pair of princesses entered-- immediately taking interest in the accessory displays. Glancing past the fairy, he gave the duo a wave of regard, before his attention returned to the other boy. â Iâve got to get back to work, but-- see you this weekend.~ â
" Did we have Thronework? " Fionn asked the figure next to him in Crownculus, stifling a yawn behind a hand. ( School Starters Meme )
Baron blinked and glanced over at Fionn, nodding a little with a friendly little smile,âAh page,⌠740, questions 1-5 in our textbooks I think?â he murmured softly. The horned boy tilted his head and peered at him better,âO-oh by the way, I noticed your flower shop the other day, itâs cute!â he mumbled sheepishly, hoping he didnât sound odd.
The unicorn gave his classmate a sheepish grin and a nod. â Got it; give me just a spell hereâ â In hurried, looping cursive, the forest prince opened his book and made quick work of his equations in hopes to get them done before The White Queen gathered them. Not his best fairytale subject, but he was sure he wouldnât fairy fail by the time he was done penning them out. Breathing a sigh of relief, Fionn eased into his chair. â Thanksâ youâre a page-saver. Sparrow was up half the night having one of his â outlawed jam sessions â down the hall, and kept me up half the night. I ended up sleeping in. â He ruffled his hair sheepishly, face brightening visibly at the complimentâ and the prospect of a fellow fairytale with a shared hobby. â Iâm charmed you think so. D-do youâŚah, have an interest in plants? âÂ
Baron pointed out a few hints here and there to help Fionn out before the teacher would start collecting sheets, smiling as he finished in record time, before he passed up his own homework to the front, hoping he did them all pretty alright. He wasnât too much of a mathematical guy either.
The prince laughed softly and shrugged,âDonât mention it,âŚand oh my wand I hate it when he does that, how in ever after is anyone supposed to sleep.â he chuckled out quietly,âOh and I do! I like to grow plants on my free time.â he explained,âWe should grow something together sometime,âŚâ
The hints were greatly appreciated; normally, the equine boy would have studied, but the night before had rendered him largely unable to think over the riotous noise. Rolling blue-violet eyes softly, the prince laughed. â Right? Itâs bad enough he does it in the forest and disturbs all the animals, â Fionn agreed whole-heartedly, careful to keep his voice down so that it wouldnât reach their teacherâs ears. He glanced up, making sure that no eyes were on them with a sweep of his gaze, before removing the flower crown from his head. â Definitely! Thatâd be hexcellent.~ â Delicate fingers plucked one of the wild yellow roses from the band; in Flower Language, symbols of friendship. Letting his eyes fall closed behind pale lashes, the star-shaped marking on his forehead, half-hidden under his bangs, began to glow with a low hum and gentle iridescent white light. Within seconds, that light wrapped around the flower, and it began to renew itself-- a new stem, green leaves and refreshed petals. With a tiny smile, the magic faded, and he slid the flower across the desks toward Baron. â Have one on the greenhouse, â he teased gently, unable to resist the pun, as the unicorn replaced his crown. â No, but really-- my nameâs Fionn. You should, um, drop by the shop after classes sometime. Having some hexperienced help with the plants would be ever-after awesome, and Iâm no Hatter, but I make a wicked cup of floral tea.â

đż ââ Aha. I see the old adage about canines and lettinâ them sleep stands, â the equine in human guise mused, sitting across from her. Largely, it was to make her tri-headed companion feel more comfortable with his presence. Fionn would have to ask Bells about the adorable hound when she wasnât doing her best impression of Sleeping Beauty. Reaching into his satchel, he retrieved a pastel-striped, wax-paper baggie. Opening it and fanning his hand in front of it wafted the scents of crispy thick-cut bacon and candied maple syrup into the air. â Luckily for me, they left out the part about wolves and their love of bacon. The free variety, given as gifts by friends who want to take a certain big, bad snore machine to Bookend. You can bring your little friend here. â All joking aside, the forest princeâs tone grew a little more solemn after a lingered pause. â I⌠need your advice on something. Figured it wouldnât be fair though to bring up destiny business before we ate. â
đ â Bellona only grunted in response, pretending sheâd fallen asleep again. In truth sheâd caught the faint smell of the food Fionn had brought and automatically woke up the rest of the way. J. R., on the other hand, was still half asleep.
That is until this stranger produced food from somewhere and all six ears perked up as his tail started thumping on the ground. Neither pup nor owner could continue sleeping now, their stomachs wouldnât allow it. With a throaty chuckle, the she-wolf finally pushed herself up into a sitting position and shook her head at her friend.Â
âAlright, alright, Iâm up! Sheesh. And I donât bleedinâ snore-hm? Oh, right! You havenât met J. R. yet! J. R., introduce yourself to Fionn.â She instructed, gesturing with one hand and giving the dog a meaningful look. Obediently, he stood up long enough to turn to face the equine before sitting down again and holding up a paw for him to shake. Should the offered paw be taken, all three heads would bark one after the other and make his owner beam with pride.
âHmph, now Iâm reminded of the adage; âBeware of strange unicorns bearing gifts of baconââŚâ Bellona teased, but her smile had faded by a few degrees. She tried to make light of it, but going a month without meat sounded much more appealing than a discussion of destiny, even now. âWhatâs on yer mind?â
đż -- Fionn snorted softly, a strangely animal sound from someone as fair of demeanor as him. A grin broke across his face at the tell-tale thumping of of a tail whipping back and forth. His bribe gift had been accepted, and was set to the side for the pair to indulge in any time they pleased. â Canât say Iâm fairy familiar with that one. How oddly specific.â His eyebrows raised, both impressed and delighted, as the Underworld hound sat up with his person and obediently sat at attention. The paw was, indeed, taken-- gently grasped and shook as each head barked out an intro. The unicorn couldnât help a soft chuckle; releasing his hold, he offered his hand to be scented and for ear scritches if J. R. so decided. â J. R., huh? What a perfect gentleman, â he praised, in that softened tone he seemed to favor for speaking with animals. It was never coddling baby speak, but always with great fondness. After all-- animals had long been his friends before people. There were days, still, that he admittedly preferred their company. Breathing a resigned sigh, the pale-haired boy withdrew a bit, steadying himself for the spike of anxiety that was sure to come of this conversation. Fionn squared his shoulders a bit. â ...I finally told Grimm how I felt about this whole storybook destiny business. Iâm going to free the others, but...but Iâm not going to follow through with my whole story. I..suppose that makes me a Roybel now? â He smoothed his hands over the edges of his jacket absently, trying to soothe his case of nerves, and managed a chuckle. â ...Iâve got detention for a week, but itâs whateverafter. No big tangle in my mane. Iâm...more worried about what Iâm going to do at this point? â His gaze turned out the window, toward the tree line. Something very distant reflected in blue-violet eyes, and the fairyteen shivered. â ...Iâm going to have to help fight him, Bells, if I want to turn the tide of my tale around. The Red Bull. Grimmâs got me in Damsel-In-Distressing, for Godmotherâs sake; heâs not going to let me take any classes that help me defend myself and my friends. â His attention shifted back to the wolf with an apologetic smile-- these sort of topics were heavy ones, and he knew it. â ...So I was wondering if you might have alternative ideas? â
send me â hc â + a word and iâll write a headcanon about it regarding my character.

The inevitable collision caused who or whatever to takeâŚseveral hoofsteps back. When Bunny looked up, sheâd find herself in the company of a unicorn, of all thingsâ or rather, it would be a unicorn, were it not for a distinctive lack of a horn. The cloven hooves and lion-esque tail would be somewhat of a giveway, however. It blinked at her twice, looking both surprised and concerned, before it distinctly shifting into the form of a fairyteen boy with cream-colored hair and a princely jacket. â N-no, no, itâs my faultâ I really shouldnât shift indoors.Takes up too much room, â he apologized shyly, reaching down to gather up a few leaflets of sheet music the rabbit had dropped to hand them to her. â Sorry about that. â
When she looked into who she bumped into, Bunny was surprised to find that it was a unicorn. She did not recall seeing such creatures in Wonderland, and she couldnât help but wonder if it was from here in Ever After. If it was, then why was it wandering the school and not outside?Â
Furthermore, upon closer inspection, Bunny wondered why there was no horn?
Before she could come up with any more questions, the unicorn began to change right before her eyes. In mere moments a teen boy about her age stood where the unicorn was, causing Bunny to stare at him in surprise as well as awe.
Realizing that she had dropped her music sheets, Bunny quickly knelt down and began to scoop some of them up. âI should be the one that is sorry,â she said, looking to the boy to give him an apologetic smile. âI was running late and hurrying when I should have been paying more attention.â
She took the sheets with a smile, standing once all of them were collected. ââŚI Havenât seen you around before. Are you new here?â
The look of surprise upon him made the boy turn a bit pink around the ears. Though he knew very well the surprise his fairytage had for some people, he never really got used to the sort of attention it drew. Straightening himself once everything had been gathered, the young man gave the Wonderlander an empathetic smile in return. â Ah, donât worry about it. No charm done. â Reaching up, he righted the flower crown thatâd gone crooked with the collision, before slipping his hands into his pockets. A few of the buds on it bloomed under his touch. Oh! Right. Not everyone at Ever After was familiar with his story-- Haggardfell was far, far away from most kingdoms. The equine cleared his throat softly. â Somewhat-- I came fairy late in the year. My story isnât hexactly one of the classics, after all, â he admitted gently. â Iâm Fionn Last-- son of The Last Unicorn. Nice to meet you.~ âÂ

âIâd be glad to have whatever you can spare,â Freyr said, though any thought of the lavender left his head completely when he saw the magnificent rose that Fionn returned with. âPerfect! Thatâs perfect!â
He leaned in a bit to get a closer look at it. Violet and pink were Ripleyâs favorite colors as far as he knew, and the shadows would make her smile for sure. Maybe she could wear this as a hair ornament until it started to wiltâassuming that plants in Ever After, particularly those that were most likely magical, wilted at all. âSheâll love it.â
Before going overboard with his excitement about the flower, he cleared his throat and tried to say in a more dignified, princely way, âMy name is Freyr, by the way. Iâm the Prince-in-waiting of the Frost Faeries of the Northern Realm.â Ugh, that didnât sound friendly. That sounded like what his father would say. âAnd, uh, if youâre free some time, itâd be super fun to go exploring in the woods! â Iâll see about wrapping it up for you then, and getting the Disclaimer togetherâ ah, you wonât have to sign your true name. I know some of the Fae are against it. Largely just a formality to make sure the shop isnât responsible for what villainous folks do with their purchases. â The prince agreed, humming to himself as he gathered up the plant case and took it to the counter. It was always nice when his intuition payed off. Lavender ink in delicate slanted cursive wrote out instructions for care, and the agreement. The formalities got him to crack a crooked smile, blue-violet gaze settling to properly look the Faerie in the eyes; good natured amusement twinkled there. â Are you asking if Iâd like to hang out in the forest sometime, Freyr? Or would you like me to use your full title? â It was only a bit of teasing, and said gently at thatâ no real harm by it. He hoped it might help put the other royal at ease. â Because, I honestly wouldnât mind. I have to do observations there for Environmental Magic anyhow. Would this weekend be alright? â The parchment was slid toward the other boy with a phoenix feather quill, pre-dipped.Â
âThatâs okay, I donât even remeâI mean, itâs nice that you allow that,â Freyr said, picking up the plume and signing, âFreyr R.â with a flourish. He tried to contain his grin when he imagined how Ripley would reactâwhich was pretty easy to do since she could only make one of three faces.
He snickered at Fionnâs comment. âWell, if you want to call me your prince, I guess there are worse destinies~â He gave the florist his best smile. âSure, this weekend sounds totally⌠uh⌠spellbinding!â Ever After lingo was so hard to remember sometimesâŚ
The unicorn raised an eyebrow, but if he had thoughts regarding the slip of words, he made no mention of them. Behind the veil of the barrier, well out of earshot and the gaze of his customer, Fionn couldnât help a giggle to himself. It was honestly refreshing to see someone else fumble with their nature other than himself for once. Even if he wasnât quite certain what hexactly that nature was. The forest prince was certain the young fae in the other room wasnât ever-after-everything he appeared to be, but it was largely none of his business. After all, all magic was two sides of the same script. Â
Rounded almond eyes swept over his inventory. Venus Fairy Flytraps, Lambsbane, SwampbloomâŚah. His gaze settled on a pot of roses with violet petals and pastel pink throats, speckled with flecks of silver. Thornless, but at their base under fat leaves, shadowy tendrils coiled like a serpentâ waiting to strike. Sensibly, it was behind an enchanted glass container. Puella Illecebra. Maidenlure would be ideal for a girl with villainous intentions and a love of sparkly things. Adding it to his cart, the unicorn piled on his previously mentioned assortments from the different sections of his greenhouse nursery, before emerging once more into the front of the store. Finding the other teen scoping out the lavender and sageâ favorites of his both for tea and white magic âwas a delightful surprise. â âŚThose are my personals. Not for sale, Iâm afraidâ though my lavender is growing spelltacularly this year. I wouldnât mind sharing a few snips, â he teased gently, to get the winged figureâs attention. Generally, Fionn was more meek; but being surrounded by lush plant life always made him feel greater at-ease.
âIâd be glad to have whatever you can spare,â Freyr said, though any thought of the lavender left his head completely when he saw the magnificent rose that Fionn returned with. âPerfect! Thatâs perfect!â
