"Honda is useless" "Honda is boring" ☝️ Incorrect! Honda is a vital part of the shounen anime ecosystem. If the entire habitat consists of massive apex shounen predators like Kaiba and Atem, then they out-compete each other for resources. Even shounen herbivores like Yuugi and Jounouchi will starve, without a steady supply of admiration and attention from the Just Some Guy tier of the ecosystem. Honda-types are also required for reality checks; the colourful and dramatic mating displays of shounen megafauna lose a significant part of their impact if there's no Just Some Guy in the background going "the fuck are these guys on about, this is SO weird, does anyone else see how weird this is?"
