i really did mean to say this much, much earlier but seeing it being said spoken outright a lot of things are telling me to just
Equius?? Doesn't hate himself?
He takes a lot of opportunities to point out how great he is to other people for them, acting in a way that pretty much says "HEY, YOU MISSED THIS AWESOME THING REGARDING ME, ACKNOWLEDGE IT".
Look me in the eye and tell me he isn't inflating his ego here.
And he loves being strong. He does not dislike being strong. Did you even read his introduction? The first two sentences outright state it.
He never once spoke or acted in any way that he disliked being strong. Yes, we can definitely see reasons as to WHY he MAY dislike being strong, but in the end, he's always been cool with it. He loves being strong!
A reminder that trying to acknowledge talking about a problem one has does not equate to self hatred. About one time where I can see him nearing a negative attitude towards something he did was where Vriska pointed him out for taking orders from Karkat.
But this is not a dialogue denoting self-disliking. He wants to be what the believes he should be, and isn't acting on it. He still doesn't hate himself.
Look. He thinks he's better than Vriska.
Literally the only person he believes is better than him is Gamzee. And this mindset is brought about by blood alone.
Like literally anyone who rps/represents him depicts him as some sort of self-hating asshole and. Yo stop that. It's very annoying. If you want to depict him as disliking himself for whatever reason, alright, but remember that you aren't representing Equius as he was in the comic. Self-loathing is not part of his base personality. He isn't inclined to insult himself. He does not canonically dislike himself.
He likes being mistreated, but he doesn't hate himself. He likes being ordered around. But he does not hate himself. He thinks that Gamzee is better than him! But he does not hate himself.
These things seem contradictory, but you have to remember that Equius was a twisted and dumb kind of character! He's into using the hemospectrum as a reason for being dominated or scandalous. Even through this, he does not hate himself. There's been no evidence of some "strange true underlying self-hatred" he harbors for himself being a thing. You know who *actually* hates himself? Karkat Vantas! Study his character and learn what actual self-loathing in a character looks like. Use him for your self-hatred tropes.
That probably did not clear up this common misconception.
Whoops I initially did not mean to sound angry when making this and was not angry when making this but it seems like i messed up uhh
sidenote he actively denies most everything negative nepeta says about him
