Not to make a serious post but one thing I can never get over is how variants of “teenagers don’t have ~~~real™~~~ problems” never dies (like the “oh baww little girls want safe space” thing predates tumblr discourse by… longer than I’ve been alive and I’m nearly 30) when:

Mental illness is ridiculously under diagnosed in teens because adults see incredibly obvious signs of it as “teenagers being dramatic”. Shitloads of teens die or end up with permanent health problems that follow them well into adulthood as a result. Not a real problem apparently.

The number of kids left with some level of PTSD from the domestic situation they live in is astronomical. This overlaps a lot of with the first point (pretty much every person I know living with anxiety as an adult came from a bad upbringing). But yeah kids being abused on their parents or other family members not a real problem apparently.

Some of the biggest targets for rape/sexual abuse in the world are teens (all genders). Also overlaps a lot into the PTSD category. Violation and being treated like a living sex toy not a real problem apparently.

Black/brown teens in particular are likely to be shot or arrested for doing diddly shit or an incredibly minor infraction white kids would easily face no repercussions for doing. The system literally viewing you as a dangerous criminal even before you become an adult not a real problem apparently.

School rarely punish and remove violent or otherwise destructive students. Teens have to deal with these people breathing down their neck with no chance of them ever being “fired” for it from 9am-3pm. Being around people that will punch you, hassle you and break your stuff for the majority of your waking hours not a real problem apparently.

Whatever financial situation parents have has a massive impact on both the neighbourhood and resources a child has. Some of these neighbourhoods are so dangerous they are comparable to living in a war zone including the psychological affects on the residents. Poverty and living in fear not a real problem apparently.

Wow golly, its almost like teenagers are exactly as affected by some of the worst humanity has to offer as adults! But yeah know they don’t pay taxes or bills so all that shit that’s nothing, yep definitely.
