Another thing that I love about Crystal/the manga is that it really does not fuck around with the secret identities thing, that Mamoru realizes something is up pretty much right away. He was suspicious of Usagi and her talking cat in episode 2, then he saw her transform into a flight attended in episode 3, so he definitely knows she has powers. He doesn’t yet know that she’s Sailor Moon, but that will come in episode 4 and then in episode 5 he will use that information to help lure her to where Makoto needs help—assuming that everything follows the manga’s timeline. The first anime really drew this out and there’s fun in that, the episode where Usagi had to transform in front of him was really satisfying because we’d waited so long to see it! But, years after having first watched the first anime, I read the manga and it was just… both stories have their merits and this is just personal preference, but I was so OVER THE MOON FOR FIGURING SHIT OUT. This isn’t a series that’s meant to be “realistic”, it’s not meant to be a super serious story about secret identities and people working to keep themselves hidden or figure out who everyone else is. But it’s also not afraid to show that Mamoru is actually really smart, that he actively works on solving this problem, and he figures shit out. There’s use of the press for the activities that happen in Tokyo, even! Stuff makes the newspaper! Some villains use television shows to manipulate people by shit talking the White Moon family! I LOVE THAT KIND OF STUFF. But I also love just how beautiful this scene is, goddamn Crystal has been really good about keeping the hotness of all the characters. Rei is this gorgeous cool beauty type! Usagi is cute but growing into that lovely elegance she has! And Mamoru is HOT LIKE FIRE, I love how gorgeous that tuxedo looks and I love that you can see his eyes so clearly through the mask! I love the attention to detail on the little whisps of Usagi’s hair! I love the blue of Mamoru’s eyes! UGH, I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE SCENE IN HIS APARTMENT, THAT IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES, UGH I JUST LOVE THESE TWO NERDS SO MUCH, I WANT THEM TO MAKE OUT AND FUCK AND HAVE BABIES AND GET MARRIED AND RULE THE WORLD RIGHT NOW.

All I’m good at is studying
THIS PRECIOUS CHILD, SHE IS MY FAVORITE OF ALL THE PRECIOUS PEOPLE. LOOK AT HER PRECIOUS FACE. What cannot be conveyed through only images is the gleeful voice she uses in her thoughts and the adorable giggle as she smiles so brightly and eagerly. I love this moment, I love it because it’s such a childish impulse to befriend Ami so that she can help Usagi study and pull up her grades so that she won’t get yelled at, but it never, ever takes away from that Usagi’s friendly nature is entirely genuine. It’s childish, but also not cruel or misleading at all! It’s never presented as being bad that Usagi hopes Ami will help her become better at studying, it never crosses your mind that this friendship is anything less than completely real, even in just the first few moments. USAGI IS STILL A RAY OF SUNSHINE, HER AFFECTION FOR AMI IS STILL THE CUTEST, THEY ARE BOTH DARLING. But goddamn Usagi’s UFUFUFU HEHEHE FACE IS THE MOST PRECIOUS THING I HAVE EVER FUCKING SEEN.

Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon - Act 06 [x]
A continuation of this post, where they find out that Luna is from the Moon, that Luna was the one who awakened them (rather than being triggered by coming across her, I assume), and that the Moon princess is from Moon royalty. And I started eying Luna suspiciously. Here, though, is where I start to really give Luna the side-eye, because she seems very mum about what she knows, only just now admitting to a lot of stuff (the power of the Silver Crystal, the Moon kingdom stuff, the ancient enemy, how much Luna was responsible for awakening them, etc.) and then there’s that Sailor V game. It’s never explicitly said how the game came about or where it came from or what exactly it does to them, but there definitely seems to be something hinky about it, whether it’s just simply a training exercise for them, that it’s testing their focus or their memories for when they need a power up, or if it’s influencing them somehow. Or if it’s just somehow slowly getting them used to the idea of fighting enemies and Luna’s using it to plant the idea of Minako as the princess, so that Usagi could be protected a little while later. It’s not ully clear how much Luna remembered or what she knows—she later says that she never expected that Tuxedo Mask might be Endymion, as well as later says that the reason Venus was presented as a double for Serenity was because Usagi-chan to keep her hidden and protect her awhile longer, but it doesn’t explicitly say that Luna knew Usagi was the princess before that, but she never expresses direct surprise at the fact that Usagi is Serenity, only surprise when it happens. She also says, “…we were hoping we could deceive the enemy a little longer than we did.” so, yeah, Luna totally knew and didn’t tell them. She encouraged Usagi to investigate things, to get stronger in her fighting, but planted the decoy (which Minako was in on, as well as Artemis) to give her time to get stronger, because Serenity would have no memories of fighting to draw on. I guess I never really gave much thought to Luna’s part in all of this, how much she knew when she knew it, but her memories may be fuzzy (she slept for a really long time) and not totally clear, so not all of it is direct manipulation. And it’s for the greater good, it’s necessary to give Usagi a chance to get stronger, but still. I’m a little surprised at just how much Luna was hiding from them and it gives a new layer of intrigue to the character for me, because you can feel just how much she loves Usagi and why she did it. Especially knowing that Usagi’s full awakening—all of the girls’ full awakenings, really—meant the end of their carefree human lives. That’s got to be a heavy burden for a little cat. (Note: I’m aware that this gets commented on more directly later, but this is my first time through these early chapters again since I first read them in a wild rush all at once because I was so hooked, so a lot of stuff I’m only just picking up on now. But that’s what the reread is for! It just means that sometimes I’m going to go WHOA WAIT A MINUTE to stuff that’s explicitly explained later, that I’d forgotten about.)
Something that I and other people deal with. All I can do is ask for forgiveness and try harder to not let my problems make relationships unbearable to be with.
This except I also lash out sometimes. Boop.
This is how I feel. Every day.

#it’s just so awesome to see a young woman surrounded by men who are earnestly interested in her opinion #esp. on *ships* #do you know how often i see women get shut down when they try to join in discussions on cars #but they’re all like #”nah this girl knows her shit” #”let’s talk to her about it” #i mean they SHUT DOWN A GUY ASKING HER TO DANCE BECAUSE SHE’S *TALKING* (via dropkicks)

WHY DO I LOVE THIS SOOO MUCH?!?!
Best find evar!
Thought I’d address this since I saw a lot of people freaking out about how they will fit all of the arcs in 26 episodes. The first 26 episodes will strictly cover the first arc of the manga. This is stated on the official website as well as on the pamphlet recently released. So no Outer Senshi this season. Sorry guys!! Hopefully somewhere down the road…
I personally view 26 episodes as the ideal length for the first season. We need 5 episodes alone just to discover each Senshi. That leaves 21 episodes for plot and character development. Sounds good to me!!
This time, explained with pictures! SailorB, you’re the best ~♥
Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon - Act 05 [x]
One of the things I see brought up about Mamoru/Usagi most often is the connection between their current selves and Endymion/Serenity, whether using it to talk about the love that spans multiple lives or to say that the relationship was only an echo of a former love. It’s fairly obvious which side I fall onto with that argument and I find that the way the manga brings it up probably could go either way, but here’s how I see it: They remember each other, there’s a familiarity there, the teasing lure of a memory almost within their grasp, and this is basically magical amnesia. They’ll later remember each other just fine and there is an element of, when they first meet, there’s this instant zing of connection, even before they know who they are, but that’s because Serenity and Usagi aren’t different people, just as Endymion and Mamoru aren’t different people. One of the biggest themes in shoujo is centered around girls dealing with growing up, in passing from one stage of their life to the next, but that these are not separate people, either. You’re not the same as you were when you were a child, but you were still that person, that person was still you, that person was the beginning of you, that person was the core of you, as you were shaping yourself. This is why the final storyline in Stars is so important, that Usagi went from someone who was too afraid to stand up without her lover that she killed herself rather than live without him to someone who lost all her friends and her lover, but decided that she would be the one who fought to get them back this time. That potential was always there in her all the while, it just took time to develop it. And that’s how I see the Endymion/Serenity relationship vs the Mamoru/Usagi one. I see Endymion/Serenity as young love, those who weren’t that worldly yet, who still had growing to do, but they never got the time for it. Then they died and were whipped back around into the current day (well, current enough) and they had the chance to see what their relationship could have been—and, as it turns out, they really fucking love each other. They have bumps along the way, they get jealous of each other, they have to work at communication, but they do. So, that’s what this moment is. That reunion with someone who makes your heart skip a beat and I love that. I love that they were so important to each other that they still felt that connection between them, even when they didn’t really know each other in this life yet. I love familiarity between couples, I love being comfortable with each other, the way that person feels like home to you, that just thinking about them makes you feel warm and happy. I love the beginning of love stories, I love the first exciting moments of them! But I love them because I know what’s going to come afterwards has the potential to be really epic and this moment means the world to me because of that, not because they just instantly fell in love with each other or something.
