I could have written more than four novels with the amount of time I’ve dedicated to writing fanfiction. I don’t know if it’s something to be proud of or something to feel silly about.
I definitely feel happy when writing it; I love writing fanfiction, and I know readers love reading it. So I don’t regret the time I’ve spent on it for a minute, but as someone who wants to make a living out of writing - I’ve gotten to the point where I need to devote more of my time to writing things I can actually profit from.
With that being said, I’m not going to stop writing fanfiction but as a full-time student who also has a job, my time is allotted as follows:
9 hrs devoted to work - 8AM - 5PM
2 ½ hrs devoted to my summer course - 5:30PM - 7PM
Then I spend the rest of my night and some of my weekends writing (that’s when I don’t want to have a social life)
Weekdays during the fall, winter, and spring semesters are worse because then I have more courses to work around while still trying to work and that leaves less time for writing.
My sleep pattern is irregular so I can end up writing from about 7PM - 1AM or later, but I have to split that writing time between writing profitable works and/or fanfiction. And honestly, I usually spend a good portion of that time writing fanfiction.
What’s the point of this post, you ask?
I want to cut work out of the equation!
Is that lazy? Maybe. Is that wishful thinking? Maybe. But I’m not doing this with the hope of having less work to do - because I won’t be doing less work. I’ll be writing. Writing fiction is work; it’s just enjoyable work. That’s why I’m launching a Patreon!
https://www.patreon.com/lyraverse
Make sure to read “Why Lyra Verse is on Patreon” to get more of an idea of why I’m doing this.
Patreon is a crowdfunding site. Anyone who donates to me can read some of my original stuff. I’m not going to be updating my original stuff as often as my fanfics, but by donating to me, you’re giving me the time to actually work on my original works along with my fanfics. Just think of it as donating towards my dream. And by starting this Patreon, I’m pledging to make fanfic updates a weekly thing for all of my multi-chapter fics.
My original works will come in the form of scripts I’ve written or I will be updating a chapter of an original novel that I’m working on. Only donating patrons will be able to see my original works. Right now, I’ve uploaded a spec script of The Flash that I’ve written. It’s no longer viable to send out to agents or entertainment networks because some plot points have advanced past what I wrote into the script. So I’ve made it available to some of you guys to view.
And with donating, I’ve made it possible to donate as little as $1. That’s less than the cost of a Snickers bar! Any donation is a monthly donation, so if you agree to donate $1, you’d be agreeing to donate that $1 every month. So just think of it as donating to your favorite fanfic writer instead of getting a Snickers bar every month. Maybe I shouldn’t have used a Snickers bar as a comparison…people love Snickers bars…
If you have questions or don’t quite get what I’m doing or why I’m doing this, feel free to send asks to my inbox. I’ll respond. :D
