Welcome to the HOT AND VINTAGE MOVIE STARS poll blog! This blog runs tournaments based on hot vintage movie stars from between 1910-1970. We are currently between tournaments.

FAQs:

"Define vintage?" I only post about people who were in movies made before 1970. My knowledge is mostly classic Hollywood, but I've been trying to expand out to showcase international vintage hotties too (thank you to everyone who contributes!)

“Who won the last few tournaments?” Toshiro Mifune is the Hottest Movie Man, Eartha Kitt is the Hottest Movie Woman, Elsa Lanchester is the Scrungliest Little Guy, Diahann Carroll & Sidney Poitier are the Hottest Movie Couple, and Akihiko Hirata and Duane Jones TIED as the ultimate Horror Hotties. "What are you doing between tournaments?" Hanging out. Thinking of which old dead guys I'd like to fuck. You're welcome to come chat in my asks about old movies, hot people, and whether you would fuck the Scarecrow from the 1939 Wizard of Oz.

"How do I submit propaganda? What propaganda do you boost?" you can send propaganda to my ask box, tag me in it, or reply to the poll post with it. I don't boost everything I see, but I try to boost the cream of the crop. If you have more than five photos to submit, please send a few asks instead of one long one. I watch every video I receive so I can add trigger warnings, so please don't send long videos—I don't have time to review them.

If I see repetitive, trolling, or bigoted remarks in the comments, I will block you from the bracket. If you want to point out a competitor’s problematic aspects in the replies, that’s fine, but if I see bad-faith trolling, you will be blocked. I will also block if you start harassing other people voting on the polls. If you really hate that someone is winning, please post positive propaganda for their opponent instead.

The views expressed in the propaganda are not my own. I don’t submit my own propaganda, and I don’t change what’s submitted beyond fixing spelling mistakes. If you hate a poll bio or a pic, let me know and send me something I can use instead. Complaining about the poll photo without offering alternatives gets blocked.

"Has [name of hottie] ever been in a tournament?" Please search for their tag (ie put #toshiro mifune in my search bar) before asking me.

"Hey! Some of these people sucked and they shouldn't be here!" Yes, some of these people sucked. I agree with you. For reasons I've gone into before, I don't exclude anyone from the contest for moral reasons, even if I personally think they were garbage. I do this because I cannot responsibly research and vet every competitor's background and legacy, and I'm not comfortable being the moral barometer for everyone, even in cases where I think it's really obvious. You are welcome to vote against people for moral reasons, but as mod I don’t post or boost negative propaganda about anyone.

results are in! The correct answer is Carmen Jones. Reiko Sato is being dubbed by Marilyn Horne, an accomplished opera singer and four-time Grammy winner who also dubbed Dorothy Dandridge for Carmen Jones. (Dandridge was a singer in her own right, but not trained in opera.) Horne went on to have an impressive career as a mezzo soprano and is still alive today.

hey have they talked about how they did that? because I was under the impression you had to light black and white differently than color (to get it to work more than a generic filter), but there’s no way they shot that twice.

i hate sending asks to people because they never answer but here's an idea for a poll, to celebrate pride month: queer off with ur personal choice of the gayest (or lesbian, bisexual, ace, etc) from old hollywood? id run it on my dandy blog but knowing me i wouldnt get any participants. lmk what u think!

I’ve thought about doing this before but tbh I always run into the problem of 1) we don’t know how vintage people would define themselves in modern terms and 2) because so many had to stay in the closet to protect themselves we’d inevitably end up excluding people who belong. like I would not be comfortable presenting an actor in a poll specifically around queerness and defining their identity for them when they might have called themselves bi or pan or trans or something else if given the option to pick, and it similarly feels cruel to assume I can guess who does and doesn’t belong in a pride poll when so many people had to hide. would hate to exclude somebody who belonged just because they couldn’t come out, you know? not for me to decide for them where and how they fit in modern terms.

I love that these voice actor polls are being tagged as "voice actor violence" because HOH BOY, LEMME TELL YA...the amount of times I've been victimized by a voice actor's IMDB page is *staggering*. Reading them can be like getting hit repeatedly with a wet pool noodle as you realize they've been Where's Waldo-ing throughout your entire childhood, whether you knew it then or not, so your tag is VERY appropriate!

Toshiro Mifune is the right answer. Or rather, the man voicing Toshiro Mifune's character in Grand Prix—I didn't put the character name because no one would know who that is.

This is the voice of Paul Frees, known (along with Mel Blanc) as "The Man of a Thousand Voices." Along with his work in Some Like It Hot and Grand Prix, he also did Boris Badenov on the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, the Fruit Loops mascot Toucan Sam (allegedly basing that voice on Ronald Colman), John Lennon and George Harrison on the Beatles' TV cartoon, several Rankin-Bass Christmas specials, and countless other bit parts in film and TV. On top of that, he was also the original Ghost Host for the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland and Disneyworld!

I had the Original Broadway Cast recording of Bye Bye Birdie on CD because I when my high school put it on, I was in the pit orchestra, so I wanted a recording of the show. I remember seeing the movie some time before that, when I was a kid - I remember Ann-Margaret, Dick Van Dyke, and the changed ending - but I don't remember Rosie particularly so my brain just kind of filled in the idea that she had also (like Albert with Van Dyke) been played by her Broadway actress reprising her role. (My memory of how all the songs sound comes from the cast recording, not the movie.)

Then I read this poll and went, "Surely they would have let Chita Rivera do her own singing?" So while I did not look at the voice actress for the dubbing, I did check Wikipedia and - Janet Leigh?! They recast Chita Rivera with Janet Leigh?! In a part written for a Latina actress, where one of the problems her character faces is that her white boyfriend's disapproving mom is doing microaggressions against her?! I'm retroactively really mad???
