“Like I said, I don’t know what you’re supposed to do, so don’t rely on me for orders. Please keep me alive, and keep yourself alive. Better yet, let’s keep each other on level ground–is there anything you need me to do?” She still had no idea what her role as a Master entailed, but as selfish a person as she was it did not sit right with her to take from a stranger without returning the favor.
But–
“Even though I’m on a different plane of existence now, please keep in mind my status as someone who is already faithfully committed to an intimate relationship. I am no Aife, Emer or Fand, nor can you ever expect my name to come after theirs in your conquests.”
—even she had her limits.
The Berserker tilted his head to the side for a moment. A request for her to do something? “Don’t stand near me in a fight, or you might be pierced by accident.”
He thought her words over again, “Just point me at the enemy.”
Hearing the familiar names though, his eyes flicked to the side, not looking at his master. The mention of names from his past made him pause for a moment. Hitagi felt a need to tell him of her relationship, and if he was a different man he would laugh and tease her. But… he is not that man, “his” past does not apply to him. It’s a bitter reminder of who he once was and will never be again.
Cu shrugged his shoulders and waved his hand in a dismissing matter, “Those names matter not. I will protect you, fight, and kill. That is all.”
He turned away from her after the words, his tail lagged behind. His weapon disappeared and he looked for a place to idle. He sat in a corner and brought his knees to his chest. He wrapped his tail carefully around his body and rested his head on his knees.
“Wake me up if anything happens.”
