An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
For Joy and Ninaâs birthday today I gift you episode 6 of my HoA fanfic revival. Please read it if you like and give me any feedback you have (good, bad, neutral). I would love to hear! Iâm so incredible proud of this and hope more people get a chance to read it who want to.
Considering S3 is viewed as the worst season, which characters do you think were given the worse treatment? Personally, I think Patricia and Fabian. Patricia basically existed to be constantly jealous of Eddie and Fabian solely existed as an info packet. I felt like their characters had nothing go to them. It's especially disheartening because Brad did great in the premiere, but didn't get anything to work with again until the Sinner arc and he only had decent material for 2 of those episodes.
I totally agree with this take!
There's a word that I'm trying to get going called "Protagonosis" which basically means that a work of fiction gives too much credit to their main character by ignoring their flaws/not providing proper consequences for their flaws, shifting the story around to have the world revolve around the main character (changing the story to have the main character be some type of Chosen One when they weren't intended to be that way or without their Chosen One status contributing to the main character's arc), and/or relegating secondary characters purely to serve the main character's arc without much care for the secondary character's own arc, character, and autonomy.
I think House of Anubis regularly comes down with cases of Protagonosis, throughout all three seasons actually, but especially with the sinner plot line in season 3.
I think that turning Fabian, Patricia, and Alfie into sinners thereby giving the Sibuna responsibilities to KT and Eddie despite in the show only recently becoming involved with the mystery really undermines the former three's contributions and characters (in spite of how much I love sinner!Fabian, Patricia, and Alfie). I personally really loved the idea of when Alfie, KT, and Eddie are the last Sibuna members and they do the whole fake-out with Eddie almost becoming a sinner, that Eddie would actually become a sinner and it was up to KT and Alfie to save the day. I also am not entirely sure the timeline for the Anubis crew, but I'm pretty sure they didn't know that the third season was gonna be their last until after writing it, still- doing an Invasion of the Body Snatchers-focused story for your final season really does no good for pulling from the strengths of all your characters and giving them full arcs, even though those stories can be really fun. Having the Sibuna members become Sinners so early, and therefore become not-themselves, I believe, eliminates any possibility of a completed and satisfactory arc, relegating them to serve Eddie and KT's stories only. By the end of season 3 Eddie and KT are our heroes, not Sibuna.
There's a lot more that can be said about the Peddie relationship and all the shenanigans there (in my opinion an unfortunate divergence from what their relationship was in season 2), but I'll leave you with these thoughts. I'd love to hear more!
Personally, I think House of Anubis is at its best when it forces all characters to contribute in equal and unique ways and when it depicts Sibuna not as an organization supported by unEarthly magic and cosmic destinations but by their individual members skills and unique talents. I want to see characters who follow specific arcs because they are capable and make decisions, not because fate predestines them to save the day.
If youâll allow me to gush about my own accomplishments for a momentâ I graduated from high school... two years early... during a pandemic! Now itâs off to college to learn about writing and film and history and many more things this wonderful show helped make me passionate about!
Reasons Eddie and KT Should Not Have Been American
- Both related to canonically British people in the story
- Nina is the only American in existence as far as Iâm aware
Love how we started off the series with three blond(e)s, at one point even having four, and ended the series with none.
10 Years & New Project & College Essay
Canât believe itâs been ten years since House of Anubis began. I mention a lot how this show influenced me and how much it means to mean. This past week I applied to college, hoping to study creative writing amongst other things. I thought I share my admissions essay with you. Itâs not very good, but it talks about the influence HoA had on me ever since I first started watching it on January 1, 2011 as well as a project that Iâm working on now.
But before that I actually wanted to share a link to my new project. I posted the first draft of this a couple months ago. I know itâs not something a lot of people would be interested in, but Iâd appreciate that if anyone decides to read it they tell me what they think. Iâve been working on it for about a year and a half and have almost all of it planned out. As well as an eighth of it written. Descendantâs Nursery Rhyme But Worse
So, in proper rat fashion, I have made my own interpretation of the descendantâs nursery rhyme from the third season.

Why Nickelodeonâs Inconsistencies Could Be Cool
Robert Frobisher-Smythe was canonically born in 1880, according to Season 3. The house was built in 1890 which, according to Touchstone of Ra, Frobisher and the Alchemist were involved in, considering the laying of the foundation stones, meaning that Frobisher wouldâve been 10 years old. Obviously that is not possible and most probably just a âthis is a childrenâs show, who cares about detailâ plot hole, but what if we could make it more. Hereâs my theory :
RFS was cursed by some ancient Egyptian spirit to rapidly age and thatâs why he invented the elixir to stop from aging/dying prematurely. Despite being cursed in S3 to act villainous, in his life before we were told that he was a good person with non-evil intentions. And although I love a gray character, it would make more sense if his intentions behind the elixir were out of fear rather than glory. As we have seen in countless other stories, the person desperate for eternal life is usually the villain, in this story those villains being Victor Jr. & the Secret Society, Rufus, and Victor Sr. I also assume that Frobisher invented the elixir recipe in collaboration with the Alchemist considering heâs an alchemist and because Sophia somehow got her hands on the recipe.Â
My next question related to this theory/plot hole is - Why was Frobisher cursed?
Weâve done it again. I apologize.
Willow Jenks Head-Canons
- She had a really difficult time at Isis House/Before coming to Anubis. She was very isolated and seen as weird by her peers. People would make mean nicknames like âWeeping Willow.â
- Her parents are separated and almost complete opposites. One parent is very free spirited, almost to a fault, and the reason for most of Willowâs personality. Her other parent is really strict and, besides her ancestry, the reason she goes to the school.Â
- Sheâs an emotional drunk.
- Willow is really good at giving valentines. She writes people personalized poems or songs and then performs them. Sheâs made Alfie cry a couple of times.
- She started wearing glasses when she was three years old, but switched to contacts a couple months before coming to Anubis.
- Willow has an IQ of 130.
underrated character of the week: ms. andrews aka the only adult on the show with the exception of trudy that got their senses together and realized they were working at a school with vulnerable children
Finally! Some one gets it!
House of Anubis Tag
Thanks to @ron-stepupable and @houseofanubis-iscool for tagging me!
I know I did something similar to this a few weeks ago, but hey, I love talking about my opinions so, yes, thank you.
Name - Holland. My parents say they just liked the name, but fun fact, my grandparents actually met and got married in Holland, Michigan. Iâm also 1/8 Dutch and obviously interested in HHA and beyond.
Age - My birthday is February 7, 2005, so I just turned 15.
Favorite Ship - Canon, at the moment itâs Willow and Alfie. I think they were one of the most compatible and chill couples on the show. However, I wasnât the biggest fan of their getting together because it felt so rushed and without much care/attention. Non-canon, itâs probably KT and Joy.
Least Favorite Ship - Iâm gonna make a lot of people mad with this but... Fabian and Nina. I thought their pairing at the worst of times was toxic and at the best of times was boring/awkward to watch. However, I will say, the getting together was very cute to watch and I just wish that the writers handled it differently.
Favorite Episode - Season 1, Episode 9 âHouse of Kidnap/House of Cat-napâ. I know, weird right? Hereâs my reasons; 1. I love cats. 2. One of the first instances of the mystery having actual consequences on the lives of the characters - Trudy getting fired (despite being resolved next episode :( [I love Trudy, though, and wanted her back]). 3. One of the first, and only, times Sibuna has been shown having deep and emotional reactions to their fears - Amber crying and confessing to Trudy what she saw with the cat. 4. My favorite âseriousâ scene to happen on the show - Victor being interrogated by Trudy about the cat (Itâs actually really well done and Francis Mageeâs acting is chillingly intimidating)
Least Favorite Episode - I havenât really thought about this that much, but maybe the season 3 finale, reasons being; 1. A little underwhelming considering the scale and emotional impact of the season. 2. Didnât like how Sibuna was still divided at the climax of the plot. 3. I never wanted it to end and season 3 finale (other than ToR) was the end.
Favorite Character - At the moment, itâs Daphne Andrews. I think she had some of the best writing on the shows and was actually an unbelievably complex and compassionate âvillainâ. Watching the show back now I can see a completely different side to her than the one I saw when I was five. Out of the teenagers, itâs Alfie Lewis. He did nothing wrong and was always supportive and funny and actually really helpful. I think heâs really under appreciated by the other characters and it makes my heart sad.Â
Least Favorite Character - Once again, gonna make people mad, but Nina. I think the writers really fucked her up. She couldâve been one of the most interesting characters with some of the best development, but none of what I couldâve seen was actually carried out. Nina had so much potential that went wasted.

âHouse of Anubisâ Character Quiz
Hey everyone,Â
If youâre interested, I made a short Buzzfuck style quiz, based on my opinion, of what HoA character you are. Here -Â http://www.quiz-maker.com/QRKEZNO
In all seriousness, this was me feeling nostalgic for middle school at 3 AM.
Reasons why John Clarke and Eric Sweet might have...mystical connections
Iâve been thinking about this for a while and recently had a brief discussion with @houseofanubis-headcanon and now that Iâve discussed with someone who shares or at least conceptualizes the same headcanon I figured I might as well go for it
So. John Clarke and Eric Sweet. I have so many headcanons for these two itâs actually kind of weird.Â
Much has been speculated about these two and Iâm in the category that believes they were best friends during school and that it was Eric who dared John to steal the gem. I also believe there could be something more to them. perhaps they are one of the missing pairs of Paragons and Osirions between Sarah and Nina. John is a chosen one and Eric is an Osirion. Many have theorized that since C1s and Osirions are polar opposites like Vicky Sr. said that gender must play a role in it. One female, one male. I donât dislike this theory but I also donât necessarily support it. Gender is subjective and I feel iffy supporting this theory.Â
More to my theory is that from the examples weâve been given bad things tend to happen with the C1 and Osirion. Sarah and Rufus had thatâŠwhatever they had and Rufus went ballistic. Nina and Eddie were separated (whether the âwe have to be apartâ thing is true or not this applies) and probably didnât contact each other much at all after school. so itâs logical to assume the same thing happened to John and Eric.Â
But what happened? Iâm of the opinion that John did more to his family than just leave, whether that was being an alcoholic child beater, or emotionally distant and manipulative father figure. I believe as his relationship with Eric began to crumble so did his relationship with his family. But letâs go back and determine why his relationship with his mate went downhill? Itâs widely accepted that Eric dared John to steal the gem and I think that was the catalyst of this chain of events. In Patriciaâs words, C1s are âmystical champions of good.â Stealing a gem is not good. I believe that by doing this, John pissed off the gods, particularly Anubis who gave the C1s their powers in the first place. thus these thirty years of âbad luckâ or however you want to phrase it was put into place. Johnâs life began to crumble, and his relationship with his âother halfâ became tense. Then the boys went on to university where John met Joan, who was, to say the least, a bad influence. They had this sexual tension going on and they acted on it, getting married while Eric remained single. NOTE: Iâm also in favor of the theory that Eddie and Ben are half brothers and that would still fit within this one. but whatâs key is that Eric is single and alone while John and Joan move in and begin their life together. Joan probably didnât want kids, while John did, so when Jerome was born Joan probably became very dissatisfied with her life and took it out on Jerome and John. John followed her lead because she had been rubbing off on him. Eric dislikes this ânew Johnâ and began to openly criticize him, making their relationship tenser. The Clarke household expanded with Poppy and was growing more toxic by the day and Eric, had his suspicions, reporting his best friend to the police. The state did their investigation but found nothing, Afterall, Poppy was infant, Jerome wouldnât say much and John and Joan were brilliant liars. This action, however permanently severed John and Ericâs relationship, which took a toll on them both. John was angry and Eric but after a few months realized that he was right and that ever since the gem he had slowly turned into a monster. still holding Eric responsible for the gem incident, John packed his bags in a rage, and hoping to give his children a better life without him in it left in the middle of the night.
The rest of the series happens as cannon.Â
This may seem like a strange theory but it makes an awful lot of sense when you think about it. It would give Eric a more intimate knowledge of the Osirion and explains a bit more why he was so reluctant to bring Eddie to Anubis house and get him involved. Itâs also pretty fun to theorize and in my opinion, adds some spice to the original story,Â
But, wait! Thereâs more: The math.Â
Every 25 years, a chosen one is born and we know from the matching puzzle pieces that Nina was born in 1995, Sarah in 1915. There is room for not just one, but two more pairs of chosen ones and Osirions. Furthermore, the math fits nicely with this theory. Mara and Poppy discovered on the school archive that Eric and John graduated in 1979. ButâŠyouâre probably thinking right now, 1979 minus 16 (graduation in England happens at 16) is 1963, not 1965, one of the years a chosen one could have been born. However, Amun seems to have a lot of smart, and or rich people in their program. So if Eric and John were smart enough to go to this school maybe they were smart enough to skip two years. thus, graduating in 1979 but being born in 1965. thus, it is completely logical that these two could have been a Chosen One and Osirion respectively.
(by the way, this is unedited so no promises on its quality)Â
This is GOLD!
9 Years + HoA Tag
Today 1/1/2020 is the nine year anniversary of House of Anubis!!!!!!! Like I said at the eight year anniversary, HoA was the show that inspired my love of storytelling. The first fanfiction I wrote was about the show and it was an office paper picture book held together by pieces of unused dental floss.
Although I couldnât find an actual tag on this show, I thought I would answer some tag-type questions, because, you know... opinions.
Favorite Character
Daphne Andrews. She was a villian in the beginning but steadily grew into a caring and supportive adult. Despite her intentions within the secret society she never neglected the students. She cared for them and made extreme efforts to keep them safe, like confronting Rufus for Patricia and resigning from her position to protect Mara. She was one of the few characters to actually stand up to and defy Victor. She was an underrated badass.
Least Favorite Character
Nina Martin. I could definitely go further into this, but I donât want to make this post focused on Nina bashing, because I do genuinely enjoy the presence of every character. Basically, I think Nina was too protected by the writers to experience consequence for her actions in a way that was satisfying to her character flaws.
Favorite Season
Season 2. It was such a complete and tight season. Yes, some things brought up in the season werenât carried through with later, but looking as the season by itself it was an incredibly full picture. Most every plot found its way back to a bigger purpose. Itâs characters were established and further explored. Overall, it was fulfilling and always engaging.
Least Favorite Season
Season 3. I still love this season, but because of story constraints and ambitions a lot of plot lines were dropped and/or worked out in a way that was unrewarding.
Favorite Canon Couple
Mick & Mara. I think their plotline had real emotional depth and brought a lot to the show. Not only did I think they were sweet together and always tried to work through their problems together, but I liked the way the rest of the show interacted with them. I thought it really helped and engaged the teenager side of the drama.
Least Favorite Canon Couple
Willow & Jerome. I donât think their personalities meshed and Jerome never treated Willow with respect or kindness. Their coupling was clearly used to further the Mara/Jerome plot and split them up.
Favorite Episode
Season 1, Episode 9 -Â âHouse of Kidnap/House of Cat-Nap.â This was such a unique and interesting episode. It was one of the first episodes where we genuinely saw the children scared about what was happening and it was the one of the first episodes with major consequence as a result of the mystery (Trudy getting fired). It also helps that this episode contains my favorite scene which is Trudy and the kids talking to Victor and Victor intimidating the fuck out of them.
Favorite Friendship
Alfie & Patricia. I think they were one of the most emotionally healthy and sympathetic duos on the show. The way they bonded over their nightmares was refreshing. I wish we couldâve seen even more of them together.
Favorite Crack Ship
Joy & KT. Their chemistry and support for one another was uncomparable to others. If the show had any sense it wouldâve made them girlfriends, because, letâs face it. We all know the truth.
Favorite Villain
Vera Devenish. She was so intelligent and sneaky. I love double agent plot lines! I also love the fact that she was originally discovered by Mara as shady brings such an original twist to this trope, especially in this showâs context.
Favorite Artifact
The amulets. I thought they were cool looking and I liked that there was a physical thing each individual Sibuna member had to protect. It reminded me of the dividing of the Cup of Ankh pieces in season 1.
Favorite Quote
âFireworks time!â - Fabian, Season 3 Finale. We donât see him at all in this scene. All we hear are these words.
âHouse of Anubisâ Related Dreams Iâve Had
- My abuela and I got into the back of a limo and Jade Ramsey was the driver. She was wearing a hat and told us to buckle up. I never found out where we were going.
- Alfie and Jerome were my camp counselors in a cornfield and I was flying. They got mad and told me to shut up and get down. I couldnât. I was stuck.
- Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire needed to find a red bucket and white computer in a house filling with sand. Nina, sickly and pale, was in the corner stroking her hair.
