NYC as it should/could be...
Crowdsource a New York City doorman? Why not?
Everything is for sale these days or customizable right? So why not having a doorman? I'm just flowing with some thoughts here so let's see how it goes.
It's pretty common in New York City to have entire blocks with non-doorman buildings. So in a tiny amount of space you have hundreds, maybe even thousands of people with the need for:
Packages to be received.
People to be let in their apartment.
People to "not" be let in their apartment.
Safety coming home at night or leaving early in the morning.
Can't you envision mobile doormen who can operate as the liason between tenants and the unknown trying to enter their building and apartment. Sure I don't feel this would be a full-time position, maybe just specific days, nights, times etc. but I see people having interest in the flexibility of this and it could create some nice jobs.
Do you know any services like this? If so please tell us about them and either way what are your thoughts?
(we have "not" tried this service yet, we're just bringing up the idea for discussion and comments)
In another example of technology trying to replace humans we find the virtual doorman in New York City. I'd say though this product was created more out of a real need than an indulgence. Doormen buildings are not a dime a dozen in the city while the need for the benefits and security of a doorman are often needed. Check out this video on virtual doormen, what do you think? Would you inquire about one for your building?
