One of the few reasons I'm still in Vancouver is the amazing sushi. Joking aside, Vancouver is 2nd only to Hong Kong as the most unaffordable city in the world, but at just a fraction of the population and economic base. Today, many young people face the reality of a bleak future in the city due to stagnating wages and double-digit percentage growth in real estate prices ($1.5 million for the average detached west side home). No one over the age of 40 or any politicians from any level government truly gives a fuck about my generation because the older generation already owns their homes. So if you're not a doctor or lawyer, don't have kids, don't have deep roots, and you think you want to own a nice home someday, you gotta leave. But then again.. it's a beautiful day in Kerrisdale and that's uni and ikura wrapped around a piece of salmon sashimi. Such a dilemma. #yvreats #vancouver #sushi #yvr #realtalk

It took far too long to get acquainted @rosemaryrocksalt. Montreal smoked meat on the rosemary rocksalt 'almost gluten-free' bagel. I'm not celiac, but my stomach does feel noticeably better after eating gluten-free bread vs. regular bread. 50 cent coffee til the end of April. #brapbrap #fiddy #happymouth #tabachoy #yvr #yvreats #vancouver (at Rosemary Rocksalt - Main St)

Spotted on East Hastings: Kopiko is a leading brand of instant coffee in the Philippines. The majority of the population can't afford any more than instant packs if they even desire coffee at all. Ordering coffee at most restaurants will get you a cup of hot water and a packet of 3-in-1 Kopiko. Folgers if you're fancy one-percenter. The name is a play on words in Tagalog, 'kape ko' meaning 'my coffee'. Astig is slang for something or someone intense, tough, strong, badass, or macho.
First time here sober.. Pork chop and fried fish on rice. Asian comfort food. (at I Cafe)

One of the most popular dishes in Filipino cuisine, Sinigang Baboy (pork tamarind stew) is a sour stew prepared with a soup base of tamarind, tomato, onion, and garlic, with bite-sized chunks of pork belly and shoulder, and finished with spinach and/or string beans. There are countless variations by region and by family, but the most common are: baboy (pork), hipon (shrimp), and isda (fish or fish head - usually salmon for its fat content). Sinigang manok (chicken) is less common because Tinola (Filipino chicken stew) is much easier to prepare and doesn't require tamarind. Sinigang is served with plain rice, typically as a main course for dinner, but can be enjoyed all times of the day! 🍚🍲

Snack break after a beautiful Vancouver day. Super yummy Filipino Buko Pandan on the left, BC Hazelnut on the right. So cool to see Filipino cuisine in the wild. Really diggin' Bella Gelato Yaletown's heated patio too. (at Bella Gelateria Yaletown)
