MURDER SUMMARY: SUZU MINAMI
Suzu was actually starting to feel a little bit better, after her secret ended up being no big deal she’d been gaining a little hope for her future. She could survive and get out here, she knew it. She could see her family again.
So she grabbed her Strainer from it’s case, it had always been her favorite, despite her rare use of it, it was worth millions, maybe even billions so she rarely dared even touched it but it seemed so right to play it now and really who could argue with that logic. It had a beautiful sound, not really the type of thing the average Joe’d expect to hear as it was a 15th century instrument and times had changed, but she simply adored it.
Soon she was at the Amphitheatre, it had been made especially for performances so obviously it was the perfect place for her spur of the moment ‘show’. And it truly was magnificent, the acoustics in here were some of the best she’d heard outside of the fancy shmancy concert halls that some of her bigger performances were held.
And of course with her mood being so much better than anything she’d felt in quite a while her first song was Lake in Moonlight, a hauntingly beautiful number from Swan Lake. She may have only been able to play the melody, and therefore couldn’t quite capture the entire song she did what was probably one of the best solo jobs of an orchestral piece ever.
From behind Suzu, soft footsteps approached, practically keeping rhythm with the music. Miki was gentle, quiet enough as to not startle the girl. On her face was a look that was almost…serene. So much different from how she’d been for the past few weeks. Soon enough, she was standing right behind the girl, her eyes almost drilling into her back from underneath the shadow that the moon casted on her face.
For a moment, she just stood there, silent. The tiniest smile rested on her face.
Suzu didn’t notice Miki at all and when she finished her position softened, it felt really good to be playing again. She hadn’t really been doing much of it after the first…you know…and she’d really missed it, playing certainly beat laying in bed all day long. After a few seconds break she went back to the playing position, starting Dies Irae, a requiem.
Miki gently placed her hand on Suzu’s shoulder as she played, her voice softly singing along, not quite loud enough to be heard at first. “Day of wrath and doom impending,” she whispered, her words little more than a breeze. “David’s word with Sibyl’s blending…” She crept closer, that small, serene smile still on her face. “Heaven and Earth in ashes ending…”
She snapped back into reality when she felt the hand, having been lost in her own little world of music
"Holy shit Miki, you scared me half to death" She did relax a little as it was only Miki "Though you know Dies Irae? That’s pretty impressive" She smiled a little at the other girl "Quantus tremor est futurus, Quando iudex est venturus, Cuncta stricte discussurus" She continued the next section in perfect Latin, a skill that was actually pretty useful when dealing with classical music
"There’s a few things that you pick up when you’ve been in as many films as I have. A bit of background music ends up sparking some curiosity, and the next thing you know, you’re listening to such old music…" She only blinked at Suzu, and smiled a bit more broadly, shaking her head. "It’s so fitting that you’d be playing something like that in a place like this. Our world is ending, isn’t it? Can’t you see it?"
She then quickly grabbed Suzu by the shoulder, her grip surprisingly tight. She chuckled softly. “I don’t suppose that you want to stick around to see the rapture.”
"It’s the kind of music that seems to cheer me up for some reason" She just shrugged a little, she hadn’t really thought of how fitting in was.
And then Miki grabbed her, and something didn’t seem right about her, it scared Suzu.
"Hey…you okay? What exactly do you mean by ‘the rapture’?"
"Everyone’s dying, Suzu. Everyone. They keep saying ‘have hope’ and ‘we’ll get out of here’." Her smile turned to a sneer, and then a scowl. "But it’s a lie. We’re not going to get out of here. None of us. At least, not with ‘hope’. It’s sentimental bullshit." She then grabbed both of Suzu’s shoulders, and spun her around to face her, almost shaking the poor girl as she spoke. "But…I know of a way to save us! And you were…you were just in the right spot! My last and only friend!" She laughed through the tears that’d started to stream down her cheeks. "I won’t let them take you from me!"
"Miki…calm down, we will get out of here. We have to. Don’t worry. You just have to believe." She herself was trying her darnedest to stay calm, Miki’d obviously lost it "I’ll always be here for you, no one will take me away, okay?"
"Of course they won’t. Because I won’t let them!" In a sudden, swift movement, Miki tried to wrestle Suzu’s violin bow from her. "I won’t let them take you from me! I’m going to save you!" Her eyes were aflame with something strange, something wild. Her tone seemed to constantly switch between fury, terror, and a sickening sort of glee. "I promised I’d get you out of here!"
"Hey, what are you doing?" She’d officially lost what little calm she had left as Miki seemed to loose what little sanity she had left. She started to back away from the other girl "Please, Miki, calm down and think rationally" Her tone was filled with pure terror, she highly doubted the other girl would wrestle the bow from her so she could play a little song herself.
Miki let out a high-pitched giggle, grabbing Suzu’s throat with one hand and tugging at the bow with the other. “Oh, Minami-san! I’ve had a long, long time to think! In the dark, and the cold, and the absolute mockery that this place is making of all of us!” Her voice immediately changed to a hiss. “Don’t resist. I’m trying to help. All I want to do is help.”
"Miki, please" No, no, this couldn’t possibly be it, just when she was starting to feel better, when she didn’t feel like just doing this herself to finally put away all her thoughts. She finally had a reason to go on but now this. "Please" She was on the verge of crying, the tears already starting to accumulate in her eyes
For a split second, Miki froze at the sound of Suzu’s voice. There was a look of terror in her eyes, just for a moment, before she took the chance to finally slip the bow from Suzu’s grasp and take a heavy swing at her with her other arm, hoping to knock her off her feet and send her to the stage floor.
She fell hard at the punch, the tears starting to fall and the violin flying out of her hand, skidding across the stage. For a second she actually cared more for getting it back than her own life, even turning her attention from Miki to reach for it. If she was gonna die she wanted to go with her most prized possession but it was too far away. The tears started falling faster and soon she was sobbing. She didn’t want to die but she was so helpless, laying on the floor sobbing over a violin.
For a moment, Miki almost seemed to consider getting the girl’s violin for her, but she couldn’t risk her getting up and escaping. It hurt to not be able to at least let her die with something she cared about nearby, but she wasn’t about to take any chances. She climbed on top of Suzu and straddled her, knocking her flat on her back. Now she spoke softly, just loud enough to be heard over Suzu’s sobbing. “I’m sorry. It might hurt a little. But maybe someday you’ll understand. I just can’t let them take you. I told you I’d get you out of here, didn’t I?” She tried too smile, tears now rolling down her own cheeks. “I made a promise. If this is the only way to save you, then so be it.” She looked Suzu in the eyes, shaking her head and just fighting to smile. “Wait for me, okay? I’ll be with you soon, and we’ll all be together.” She held the violin bow up, biting her lip. There was a look of regret in her face, just for a moment. “Tell Hibiki I love him.”
And with that, she slammed the bow straight into Suzu’s neck, skewering the girl.
She tried to squirm free when the other girl straddled her, she didn’t want to die, she wanted to live, she wanted to see her family, she couldn’t go just yet. But then came to bow through her neck, and after not even a second she was gone, her body going limp.
Upon being sure that the girl was actually, completely dead, Miki stood up. “I’m so, so sorry,” she murmured, before finally managing to smile. “You’re free now.”
Unsure of what exactly to do next, Miki looked over the body, where the blood was already starting to pool. Beautiful, deeply colored blood. It had a sense of elegance to it. Like the girl herself had. The music that she’d played had been so wonderful. So perfect. There was no way that she could leave the body of someone like that just sitting there.
She spotted Suzu’s violin a few feet away, and picked it up, putting the neck of it in the girl’s outstretched hand.
Dies Irae, she’d been playing. Day of Wrath. The end was near, now. It’d already ended for Suzu. Taking the bow out of the girl’s neck, she dipped it in the pooling blood, and began to write around the girl’s body in large, red letters, still wet and shining.
There was one verse in latin of that song that she could remember. The final verse.
"Pie Iesu Domine,
dona eis requiem…”
When she was finished, Miki took the bow, and placed it in Suzu’s other hand. She’d at least be able to keep them with her.
She looked up into the dark of the amphitheater’s roof. Were there lights? She couldn’t tell. But there was a fuse box. And hell if she was going to let her friend and masterpiece lay there in the dark. Careful not to leave bloody footprints, she stepped around Suzu, and quickly hurried to the back of the stage. Surely, there was something that’d work.
She spent a few moments, trying switches and even smacking the box a few times. Unfortunately, all that came was a spark. A spark that quickly fell to the dry wood of the stage and ignited. Miki beamed. What better light than the inferno itself?
Moving with quick feet, she scampered down the stairs and backed up onto the wooden bleachers, watching her handiwork at the flames began to spread.
After a moment, she ran off into the darkness.
