The Gryffindor quidditch team
Power friendships ¼ Ravenclaw - Cho Chang and Marietta Edgecomb
Can't believe this blog almost has 5k followers! Feel like I should do something to celebrate when I get there?
Slytherin girls
Ravenclaw
Deaf Ravenclaw students learning to translate spells into sign language and going on to become pros at wandless magic because you can’t hold a wand while using sign language. They invent their own spells that involve really subtle hand movements - they look like they’re just twiddling their thumbs but they’re actually cursing your hair to fall out. They’re terrifying dueling partners in DADA. And they charmed the eagle statue outside the common room to have magical subtitles and respond to sign language.
Snape
I honestly don't get why people think Snape should have been a gryffindor? He might have been brave but like 90% of his motivation came from self-interest. I think that in a way he was kinda like Peter, because he changed sides depending on what he could gain from them - he followed Voldemort for power and vengeance on all the people who he thought wronged him, he changed his mind when Dumbledore said that he could protect Lily. If Voldemort had honestly promised that he would leave Lily alone do you really think that Snape would have changed? After Lily died you'd think that Snape would leave the man who couldn't protect Lily, but he didn't because staying by his side meant a steady job and protection from the law - because I don't believe for a second that Snape would have walked free and got a teaching job, no less, had Dumbledore been completely out of the equation.
I honestly think he was a slytherin through and through, not because I think slytherins are bad or anything, but because he was clever, calculating, manipulative and a damn good spy.
The Gryffindor boys
Ravenclaw
Every couple of weeks there is a new magical puzzle trend in the common room. Sometimes it’s just an adaptation of the last one - for example when Rubix cubes were finished with, someone charmed them to randomly change colour which was more fun but also more frustrating. Someone else managed to transfigure them into more complex and exciting shapes, a few examples being an extremely detailed broomstick made of tiny cubes, a dragon that actually breathed ‘fire’ (made of more tiny cubes) and an eerily realistic dementor. The dementor was undoubtedly the hardest to complete as it wasn’t just black and white, but also made up of hundreds of different shades of grey. There were also complicated magical jigsaws where the pieces could swap around unnoticed if you didn’t pay attention and charmed versions of basic wooden block puzzles which had to be put together in exactly the right order otherwise they would explode (safely, of course).
Slytherin
Around the time of the founders, it was discovered that parceltongue could be learned. Slytherin made sure that few knew this knowledge as the heritage of his ancestors was precious to him beyond all else. Despite this, he offered the opportunity to learn to a number of carefully selected students that he deemed trustworthy - mostly from his own house, but there were others too: not only those from old families of pure blood or those who were close to him, but also those who possessed extraordinary magical ability, those who proved quick-minded and exceptionally intelligent, those who showed traits of his own house. He taught it like any other language and every student in the group learned how to speak, understand and even to read and write - though those areas were considerably more difficult. This knowledge opened up a whole knew area of magical study involving parceltongue and many former students went on to both translate old texts and write new ones, develop spells and potions which for some inexplicable reason were made more powerful by the ancient language and research the effects the use of the language had on certain aspects of magic like healing and potion brewing though due to the magnitude of the subject, how little they understood of it and the fact that no one wanted to betray Salazar Slytherin, the work remained a secret.
Slytherin aesthetic
The first footsteps in freshly fallen snow. Beautiful leather-bound books. Patent shoes. Crisp, ironed clothing. Having a ridiculous amount of special mugs that no one is allowed to touch. Snarky comments and sharp wit. Impeccable style. Gothic literature. Classic love poems. Potted plants in vintage bird cages. Ornate jewellery boxes. Large collections of shoes. Quick charcoal sketches. Classical music. But also typical rave music.
Hufflepuff Aesthetic
Friendship bracelets. Detailed scrapbooks. Comfort. Warm hugs. Fluffy socks. Clothes that are still warm from the dryer. Having that one special mug. Scented candles. The last dying embers of a fire. Bright flowers in pretty jars. Cuddly toy collections. Hand-knitted jumpers and scarves. Fairy lights. Disney movie marathons. Cheesy love songs. Freshly baked cookies. Hot cocoa. Photo collages. Polaroid cameras. Offering people food. Contagious laughter. The smell of fresh laundry. Platonic handholding.

Muddy shoes. Dogeared adventure books. Scuffed trainers. Going to sports games in full facepaint. Messy, windswept hair. Grazed knees and bruises. Broken or bitten nails. Odd socks. Quick and heavy breathing. A pounding heart. Adrenaline. Bravado. Intense pride. Unwillingness to back down. Rebellion. Heroic quests. Activism - handmade signs and marches. Bold fashion statements. Cracked walls covered with crumpled posters. Graphic t-shirts. ‘Eclectic’ music taste but definitely enjoys a particular genre more than others.
