“There are many people who could love you, Morgane.”

Karadec could’ve said “there are many people who do love you,” in response to Morgane’s “who could love me?” before kissing her. That would have been an obvious – and honestly a bit flat – route.

But he didn’t. Instead, he chose to use the conditional. It’s not a declaration of love but of the possibility of love.

And it’s beautiful. Because it just means so much more, it means right now I do not love you but I know I could, it means wait for me, it means I’ve loved you before and I’ll love you again, it means you are worth loving even though you don’t believe it yourself.

And the fact that he then kisses her is a testament to that.
