The Yankee Candle Store of Rogues

Context: the players, in a conversation with an NPC, are discussing the plausibility of magical disguises in a covert encounter, and the NPC mentions that one player, the Rogue, who has secretly been making a living finding and selling cursed items for the last few decades, has strong magical energy about her. The following conversation occurred. 

Monk: Does that mean we can use an arcana check to see what kind of magic is on her?

DM: I mean, you can certainly try. 

Cleric: I want to too. 

Monk: [Rolls an 18]

Cleric: [Rolls a 19]

DM: … Have you ever walked past a scented candle store before? where you do that and you get kinda, punched in the face with an overload of smells that are both horribly headache-inducingly intense and completely indistinguishable in terms of individual scents? She’s like that, but with magic.
