okay now people are saying heeseung didn’t actually leave by his own choice?? what is going on omg. one minute it’s "he wants to focus on his solo career" and the next minute everyone online is like "actually the company probably forced him."
and honestly i kind of get why people are side eyeing it because it just doesn’t fully make sense. a lot of idols under hybe are still in their groups while doing solo careers at the same time. like that’s literally a normal thing in kpop now. so the whole "he left to focus on solo activities" explanation feels questionable. like why would he have to leave completely when other idols manage to balance both?

first of all, idols under hybe do solo work while staying in their groups most of the time. like that’s pretty normal now (twice, bts, txt the list goes on). you can release solo music, do acting, brand deals, whatever—and still be in the group. so the explanation that he had to leave the group just to focus on a solo career already feels weird.
second, heeseung has always been one of the core members of enhypen. he’s a main vocalist, heavily involved in performances, and one of the most recognizable members. mind you he was the first to debut and is considered one of the most talented members/ace. it’s not like he was inactive or barely participating.
third, this all happened so randomly. like there was no build up at all. usually when something this big shit happens there are hints beforehand—less group activities, solo promotions starting, or at least something that makes fans start connecting the dots. but this time it feels like there wasn’t any of that, which is why it caught everyone so off guard.
and the thing that makes it even weirder is that he seemed completely normal right before. he literally had a fansign the day before and from what people have said he looked fine. there wasn’t any vibe of someone who was about to leave his group literally the next day. if it was a huge personal decision he’d been thinking about for a long time, you’d think there would’ve been some kind of sign.
another thing is his relationship with the members. anyone who follows the group knows he’s always seemed really close with them. there’s never been any public tension or distancing or anything like that. so for him to suddenly go from normal group activities to leaving completely just feels really odd.
but the CHERRY ON TOP that made me start questioning this shit is the wording in the message he posted on weverse, he said and i quote:
“after thinking about it for a long time, i made a big decision to approach engene in a better way according to the direction the company suggested.”
him saying "according to the direction the company suggested" makes it sound less like this is 100% my independent decision and more like the company had a specific plan or direction they wanted him to follow. idk maybe im not thinking this through but idkkk this is kind of shady.
HOLY SHIT I JUST SAW THE ENHYPEN THING WITH HEESEUNG. it is really sad but honestly im happy hes doing something he likes and focusing on his solo career at the same time
nice enough that people dress up a little, but casual enough that nobody’s taking it too seriously. good lighting, decent music, the kind of place where you recognize about half the people there and spend the rest of the night making polite conversation with everyone else. you’ve been to enough of them now that you have a routine.
get a drink. find a spot that’s comfortable but not tucked away somewhere weird. talk to the people you actually like. smile through a few conversations you don’t care about. and at some point in the night, without really planning to—you look up and find him already looking at you.
that part started happening a few parties ago. you’re not even sure exactly when. it just sort of became a pattern. sometimes you glance across the room and he’s already there, watching you like he noticed first. other times you feel it somehow and turn your head, and sure enough—there he is.
then one of you looks away. someone interrupts. the moment passes and the night keeps going.
you don’t know his name. you don’t know anything about him, really. just that he shows up to these parties too.
tonight he's wearing a white button-up under a tweed jacket, something slightly shimmery about the fabric when the light catches it right. black pants, a few gold rings, what looks like pearl earrings. he looks good in a way that seems effortless.
you notice all of this from across the room.
then you make yourself stop staring.
which is a decision you make and immediately fail at.
you're standing near the drinks table—someone set up a little bar situation, wine and sparkling water and a few bottles you don't recognize—when someone comes and stands next to you. you glance over. it's him.
he's looking at the bottles like he's deciding something and then he says, without looking at you yet, "so do you actually like these things or do you just show up anyway."
you blink. "the parties?"
"yeah."
"i mean—some of them. this one's fine."
he nods slowly, "fine is doing a lot of work in that sentence."
"it's a good fine," you say.
"okay." he picks up one of the bottles, checks the label, puts it back. then he looks at you properly for the first time. "i'm heeseung."
"i know," you say, and immediately feel your face heats up. "someone mentioned your name once. at one of these."
the corner of his mouth moves. not a full smile, just almost one. "so you remembered."
"it came up."
"sure," he says, and he's definitely a little amused but he lets it go. "i don't know your name though."
you tell him. he repeats it once, quiet, like he's just making sure he has it right.
"okay," he says. then, after a second—"we've been at like four of these at the same time."
"five," you say.
he looks at you. "five." a small pause. "you've been keeping track."
"i—that's not—" you stop. "it just came to me."
"uh huh," he says, easy, unbothered. "i've been keeping track too so."
you don't really know what to say to that so you just take a sip of whatever you poured yourself.
he glances at your glass. "what even is that."
"honestly i'm not sure."
"that's a problem."
"a small one."
he almost laughs. you can tell he's holding it back a little. he leans against the table, not in a loud taking up space kind of way, just comfortable. relaxed.
"you always end up somewhere on the edge of the room at these," he says. not really an observation aimed at you, more like he's just saying something he noticed.
"what?"
"at these parties," he explains. "you don’t stand in the middle of the room, you stay somewhere like this." he gestures lightly around them.
you narrow your eyes at him.
"you do the exact same thing."
"yeah," he says easily.
"you also stare a lot," you say. you didn't totally plan to say it but it's been sitting there for weeks so might aswell.
he turns his head toward you. "you stare back."
"i was checking if you were staring."
"were you." it's not really a question.
"yes."
"and?"
"you were."
"yeah," he says. just like that, no hesitation. "i was."
there's a beat. it's not awkward, which is almost more surprising.
"can i get you something else?" he asks after a second, nodding toward your glass. "like an actual drink."
you glance down at it.
"what's wrong with it."
"nothing, you just don't know what it is."
"fair," you say.
he asks what you normally like and actually waits for the answer. which feels like a low standard, but somehow it’s not something people do often at parties like this.
he scans the bottles again, finds something that works well enough, pours it carefully, then hands the glass back to you. his fingers brush yours for a second, not a big moment just quick contact.
you both stay near the drinks table after that. the conversation comes easily in a way you weren’t expecting. he doesn’t rush to fill every silence, which you appreciate. sometimes you both just watch the room for a minute.
at one point he makes a random comment about someone on the dance floor and it catches you off guard enough that you laugh.
heeseung glances at you when you do, looking quietly pleased with himself. not smug. just satisfied, like that reaction was exactly what he was aiming for.
at some point someone walks over and taps his arm, pulling him into another conversation a few feet away. someone who clearly knows him better than you do.
he turns to go, because it would be weird not to.
but before he fully leaves, he glances back at you.
"next time," he says, like it’s the most normal thing in the world, "i’ll find you earlier."
casual. like the decision's already made.
you watch him from where you’re standing, the tweed of his jacket catching the light when he moves across the room.
you take another sip of your drink.
and you think about the way he said next time.
so casually. like it was obvious.
like of course there would be another party.
of course you’d both be there.
