Live sound unit - feedback on Promonitor

Hi folks,

I have marked your written work on the live sound unit. Feedback is now on Promonitor.

In the lesson this morning, I am going to look at and grade your sound creation (sampling and synthesis) tracks that you want me to consider for learning objective 4. Please have Logic projects open and be prepared to discuss methods used.

Live sound written assignment LO1

Research and create a technical rider of the type used in the live sound industry for the Havering Sixth Form College Theatre. This must include a full PA system including any ancillary equipment, monitor system, microphones (including radio mics), mixing console, DI boxes and cabling requirements.

P1  

Describe each item of equipment as specified above, saying what it is used for, also providing 2 diagrams: a plan view layout of the venue with equipment locations and a second diagram showing how the equipment connects.

 M1  

Explain how at least 4 major items are used. (in a live sound situation)

 D1  

Also assess the quality and functionality of the 4 items explained above, suggesting and assessing the relative merits of alternative items. For a distinction you should be answering questions such as How well does the equipment function? How useful are the features? What would happen without the equipment? 

 Evidence:  

1.) A diagram similar to the ones on the blog showing how the equipment connects.

2.) A plan view of the layout of the venue with equipment locations uploaded to your blog,

3.) a word-processed blog post specifying the sound reinforcement equipment requirements for a music venue, explaining how 4 of the major items are used. 

4.) An assessment of the quality and functionality of those items as outlined in the task.

Sampling and Synthesis - show off your abilities

In the lessons on Monday and Tuesday this week you can work on getting work together for the assessed track or tracks for the sampling and synthesis unit. 

You should show off as many of the techniques that you have learnt in the unit as you can to make an interesting piece of music. You should write music in a style that can use the techniques you have learnt. E.g. dubstep / glitch hop / trance / any style of dance music.

Create music combining synthesis and sampling methods and provide a commentary on your blog with screenshots and explanations to detail where and what techniques have been used. Mix your track down using appropriate EQ, FX, Dynamic processing and panning. 

Assessment evidence: Logic project. Bounced track uploaded to blog with screenshots and explanations.
