A colourful fashion concept spring/summer collection. Layered materials, flashes of embroidery and lots of colour!
This is my first degree project, incorporating screen printing/embroidery and weaving. A range of moody colours, and a mixture of shiny/metallic surfaces reflect the landscape of Birmingham.
Working with unconventional materials is both exciting and challenging. I had a lot of cuts and scratches putting this collection together! I have embroidered into cheese graters, watering cans and wire mesh, using a selection of hand-dyed materials, wire and traditional embroidery thread.
Inspiration for this collection came from crumbling, dilapidated buildings, being re-claimed by nature. I like the idea of textiles growing out, pushing through the broken and rusted metal work. Fragments of screen printed leather tangle amongst beaded wire, and hand-dyed materials.
I really enjoy experimenting with unusual materials. This was an interior design project, where I was thinking about large industrial looking room dividers. Here I have created a rusted metal frame-work, woven with embroidered strips of material, beads, wire and paper pulp.
A selection of toys which I sold through a textile fair at Compton Verney Art Gallery in 2014. Hand sewn, hand embroidered toys made from re-cycled and vintage textiles. These are a real labour of love, an heirloom to be passed on.
When life gives you rain - photograph it! Sitting in a supermarket car park, watching the rain pour down my windscreen was the highlight of my day!
