“Dance with the waves, move with the sea. Let the rhythm of the water set your soul free.”

what will the app be like?
The app is a freestyle/plotter mix!
SUPERSTITIONS ON THE HIGH SEAS
TATTOOS & PIERCINGS These are said to ward off evil spirits
SPIT INTO THE OCEAN Before you sail will bring you good luck
TOSS IN A COIN Tossing a coin in the ocean before you depart is said to pay a toll to the god of the ocean. It will bring safe passage.
GOLDEN EARRINGS Were said to give better eyesight and protect from drowning.
RED SKY "Red sky at night, sailor's delight; red sky in the morning, sailors take warning"
WHISTLING Never whistle on a boat for you will "whistle up a storm".
RIGHT FOOT FIRST Always step onto a ship with your right foot first. Stepping with your left is sure to bring disaster.
RE-NAMING A BOAT Bad luck will fall on the crew if a boat is renamed without a proper de-naming ceremony.
LOSING YOUR HAT Losing your hat overboard is a sign that the trip will be a long one.
BANANAS Bananas should not be brought onboard a ship or they would cause the ship to be lost
SHARKS A shark following alongside the boat is a sign of inevitable death. Turtles are said to bring good luck so carrying their bones in your pocket can save you from this inevitable death
ALBATROSS These birds are said to be the soul of a dead sailor. Killing one will bring bad fortune to everyone on board. To right this one must tie the body of the bird to the neck of the murderer and tie them to the main mast.
RINGING BELL If a bell were to ring on its own its a sign that someone on board will die.
The Golden Age of Piracy (1650 – 1730)
the sea is in my blood
Currently, the only known area is surrounding the Abrea Sea. Broken up into two main sections we have the North and the Southern Isles.
Our story mainly takes place within the Southern Isles and eventually when exploration begins, beyond that. Most places in the south are controlled by the northern counties and this affects them not only politically but culturally as well.
Certain ports are more conservative and unfriendly to pirates where as others might be more tolerable if they see a benefit for themselves.
THE NORTH
HIGHCREST
Run by monarchy, Highcrest is located in the north and doesn't have a large amount of natural resources or space in their home country. This has forced them to expand their borders and lead a quest for colonisation to keep up with their growing numbers. Their expansion has taken them south to the Southern Isles but they've had to face many challenges in acquiring and keeping these colonies.
The recent war has taken quite a toll on the country, they've had a hard time supporting their colonies and have had to abandon a lot of them. Colonies that haven't been abandoned usually find themselves neglected.
Highcrest relies heavily on trade to bring necessary goods into their country and colonies.
Their current goals are still for colonisation but they have recently renewed interest in finding out what is beyond the dangerous waters. They want to be the first to discover and put their banner down.
ROSETTON
The people of Rosetton either live lavishly or in poverty. There isn't a huge middle class in this country. This area is fortunate to be surrounded by mountains, a lot of precious minerals and goods come out of Rosetton. They are most interested in ports and places that will bring them a lot of riches. They are known for their use of slaves in the mines.
Their attitude towards piracy is often kill on sight. With Rosetton ships often having so many precious minerals they are a target on the waters,
Competing with Highcrest for the first discoveries, Rosetton isn't too interested in keeping anything that won't bring in great value. They search for gold and other precious resources only setting up a colony to farm those resources.
BRIGHTWOOD
While tensions may be high between Rosetton & Highcrest, Brighton hasn't been affected by the war quite like they have been. If anything, they have benefited.
Brightwood is a powerhouse on the high seas, they largely control the trade as they are the ones that export the most goods. The forests provide a lot of the wood the three kingdoms & their colonies use. They also export a lot of food and spices that are a high commodity.
THE SOUTHERN ISLES
MERRIFORT - Strongly controlled by Highcrest, this port has a zero tolerance on piracy. The Highcrest navy have a huge presence here and anyone suspected of piracy is jailed on sight and if found guilty they are hung.
JANHOLDT - A powerhouse in the southern isles, it is governed by Brightwood and their attitude towards piracy is unfriendly. The area is covered in forest and Brightwood exports a lot of lumber here as well. It's a key player in the shipmaking and carpentry industry. Many of the ships on the water come from Janholdt.
BLACKBAY - Controlled by Rosetton, Blackbay is a highly unique and well profitable port. Famous for its black sand beaches, Blackbay is surrounded by mountains and cliffs that Rosetton is farming for resources. The workforce is largely made up of slaves. There are all kinds of precious stones and minerals being moved out of Blackbay. This is a very dangerous port for pirates but the risk could be very well worth the reward.
SOUTHASH - Controlled by Brightwood but the governor is a bit looser on piracy than its ruthless ruling country. A blind eye can be turned if it will be prove to be profitable for the port. Even still, pirates tend to stay away from Southash and if they do visit to negotiate they anchor their ship nearby in case things go south.
THE GROTTO - Not a real port according to any ruler, The Grotto is an ungoverned island. A thieves den or "The Pirate City" as many have come to call it. Highcrest had the original claim on the place but the mayor was a fool and the colony was eventually disbanded. Once the pirates moved in no country has been successful at taking and holding the Grotto. It is far easier to defend from than to attack. It has become a city of its own and isn't really governed at all. There are a few people in power running the taverns, brothels and black market. This is largely, a free city.
