quiet nights in makarovs office with nolan on his knees under his desk, resting his head on makarovs lap as makarov pats his hair... nolan so content, dozing off where he feels the safest.. makarov working away at something, one hand resting on his mutts head and the other busy... 😔
wedding makanolan 😊
no one asked me but I decided to do it anyway—
why Makarov calls Nolan 'bratok' and what this ( in theory ! ) might mean !
a quick reminder : 'bratok' ( браток ) is the same as 'brother' ( brat / брат ) but more diminutive and affectionate; 'bratok' is also a more informal form of address and in criminal circles it was customary to call each other this
first, I want to explain what it means in russian society to call someone a brother. Calling someone a brother has a deep meaning in itself; it means trust, 'one of us', 'family' and that a person ( in particular, a man to another man ) is so close to you that he is practically like a brother
a 'brother' can be a friend, a connection in the criminal world, an ideological ally and so on. It depends on the person why they call someone else a brother but regardless of the reasons, it always meant one thing : trust and connection
secondly, it is no secret that Nolan is very close to Makarov, especially when compared to Ivan. Ivan was also close to Makarov but he dared to think for himself, for which he was 'punished', while Andrei always obeyed Makarov and followed his lead. Nolan completely obeyed and submitted to Makarov, carried out all his instructions and became so close to Makarov that instead of leaving Nolan to rot in captivity and moving on, Vladimir spent, in his own words, 'precious time' saving Nolan
however, you may ask : 'but if Vladimir called Nolan his brother, doesn't that mean they can be considered 'sworn brothers' ? '. And yes, and no. At the very least, I have arguments that 'brother' is nothing more than a form of address and does not imply a 'family relationship'
1. ( let's look at what can be proven ) Makarov was in prison. In prisons, it is customary to call each other 'brother', as this emphasises equality within the framework of non-freedom and is used instead of addressing each other by name, emphasising mutual assistance. Four years is enough for Makarov to adapt to the concepts within the prison and take on the prison 'culture', including this form of address
2. ( not in the game, but it can be assumed ) Makarov was born in 1980, which means his childhood was in the 90s and his adolescence / youth was in the 00s. At that time, namely after the collapse of the USSR, the Russian government was weak and lacked authority, which led to the rise of banditry, followed by concepts, slang ( including 'brother' ) and so on. Even if Makarov did not directly witness crime and grew up in a decent Moscow neighbourhood, he could at least hear / see something on television, so consider that he grew up when banditry was in the air
conclusion : by calling Nolan 'bratok', Makarov may mean that he trusts Nolan and that he is very close to Makarov. 1 point in favour of human affection, 0 in favour of Makarov /j
I would also like to add something : what I have described above does not mean that it is 100% true. We still don't have mw4 and the future fate of makanolan is unknown. Makarov is a cunning bastard and the word 'bratok' could mean anything, including it could just be smoke and mirrors / it could mean nothing at all. However, since there is no mw4 campaign yet I have the right to think and interpret the term 'bratok' however I want :)

In fact, I often thought that Makarov imposed cruelty and hatred on Nolan, that before joining the Konni, he either couldn't fully reveal his power, or he didn't have it in the first place
but now, rereading that passage and his backstory, Nolan was a commander in the 'adf' he rose through the ranks quickly thanks to his efficiency and cruelty, and even rose above the commander, taking a place in the 'asf', where he was involved in counterterrorism and peacekeeping
and now I am more inclined to believe that Makarov helped reveal Nolan's cruelty and directed it in the 'right direction'. Nolan could never fully reveal his cruelty; in the army, he was limited by rules and the fact that he was, in effect, a state employee, which meant he had to be well-behaved. Then he was put to work fighting terrorism and resolving other people's conflicts, where his hands were completely tied
and finally, he joined the inner circle, where Makarov was in charge, who then turned the circle into a whole private military company, where there are no rules or concept of morality. Just to remind You, unlike the army, private military companies are separate from the state and are practically uncontrolled, and considering that Makarov is at the helm, all this impunity and immorality is multiplied by two
and after so many years, Nolan can finally show what he has been hiding all along and not just show it but also receive praise for his actions and recognition from Him with a capital H
I also like Nolan's argument that Makarov taught him strength and powerful ideas, and I really want to connect this speech with the arguments above...
I also like the phrase, 'You see, I earned my Commander's trust because I don't give up easily. I don't bend, I don't break, I just keep burning' and even though the speech ( most likely ? ) is about Nolan's loyalty, I like to think that the reason why Makarov 'favours' Nolan and trusts him is also related to the fact that Nolan did not turn away from this violence, but on the contrary continued to do his job, unlike Ivan, for example
he truly deserved, truly deserved, the trust of someone so divine and someone who has a truly powerful idea
I like to imagine the difference between Makarov and Nolan in winter
perhaps this happens in moscow, where it's not particularly cold, but in winter you're sure to see snow and feel a noticeable chill penetrating your bones. Andrei, a huge figure resembling a pillar; a coat with a collar and a scarf ( which Makarov brazenly stole from Milena ) worn over the collar, a military cap, woollen gloves, and Andrei, hiding his face behind his collar and scarf, frowning even more and practically shivering, with Makarov standing next to him. He is also dressed relatively warmly, but compared to Nolanoi standing next to him, he is practically "undressed". Makarov is in his usual suit, but on top of it he wears a large unbuttoned coat, almost like a "gangster" coat from the 90s, to match him, a scarf is carelessly thrown over his shoulders, and he hides his hands in his coat pockets
Nolan is not inclined to believe in stereotypes, but he is beginning to be convinced that as a child, Makarov, like all russians, was thrown into the snow immediately after birth
your phone has makanolan virus throw your phone out the window
makanolan and «let's sink to the bottom of society together»
Nolan blushes and gives Makarov a bouquet of flowers, tentatively asking him out on a date, to which Makarov replies: «You know, if we were illegally supplying weapons to Africa or the Middle East right now, it would be much more romantic»
Makarov secretly admires Nolan's strength and knows that Nolan only uses half of his power. That's why Makarov always calls Nolan for sparring, asking him to give it his all, but in the end, Nolan again uses only half of his power. Makarov always leaves sparring angry
Makarov is very cruel, but the thought slips in that he could be a little softer. He is terrible and vile, but beneath the layer of pomegranate peel lies the bitter but soft flesh of the berry.
ㅤ
He is gentle, at least towards Nolan. If his dog is beaten, he will not press or finish it off. He will gently hold the bandaged Andrei, stroking his cheek and kissing his temple. Makarov understands Nolan better than anyone else, and when he sees that he is exhausting himself with work again, he sends him on a well-deserved rest. Makarov makes everyone else at the base speak Russian, and he doesn't care whether you know the language or not, but he is willing to speak English with Nolan, knowing that Nolan has difficulty maintaining small talk.
ㅤ
There is a tiny bit of tenderness in Makarov. And that tenderness is reserved for Andrei.
dog!Makarov & cat!Nolan
ㅤ
Nolan knows that dogs wag their tails when they are happy, and every time he does his duty, he looks hopefully at Makarov's tail, expecting joy, but the tail always remains in its usual position. Nolan exhales heavily every time
despite who Nolan serves, unlike his commander, he is reserved. He has practically never participated in torture, only bringing victims and handing them over to Makarov. On the battlefield, he kills his victims with one decisive shot, while Makarov likes to play with his opponents like a cat with a mouse. He is reserved and retains at least some humanity
ㅤ
that is why Makarov dreams of corrupting Andrei. To crush his heart and carefully pull out his human nature. Nolan is strong. Makarov dreams of seeing this strength in all its glory and how Andrei is not shy about using it
