A few months ago I read your fic "White Fang". At first I was delighted to see a character with the same condition as me. I even sent you an ask, saying how much I loved it. But the usage of sign language in the fic has been gnawing at me for some time now.

Most people with Selective Mutism are never taught sign. We are not gives access to AAC devices. Therapy for Selective Mutism is focused entirely on getting us to talk.

Also, Selective Mutism is an anxiety disorder. Even if we were given another method of communication, most would struggle to use it. In moments when I cannot talk because of my Selective Mutism, I can't even point or write something down, let alone use sign language. Many also have panic attacks whenever they're expected to speak.

I'm not mad, or insulted. I write this just so you are aware of this. This is a very common misconception and I do not blame you at all for writing it like this. I have hesitated to send this for months, but I needed to get it off my chest now. But I would like to add that I still love and appreciate the representation of SM, its a rare condition many don’t know about and your fic helps to spread awarness of it.

I've been thinking about re-writing some of my older stuff; White Fang will be at the top of the list.

I think one of the reasons I fumbled the SM was that I conflated it with my brand of anxiety. When I have panic attacks, I'm able to write and motion, so I assumed others would be able to, as well.

Hi Allie!

There was an awful heatwave where I live the last week, it got over 40°C on some days 🥲

It affected me pretty badly mentally and physically. A lot of negative thoughts that I had avoided thinking about and surpressed came up. I don’t think I've been that depressed it months and I was constantly fighting to stay on my feet.

I'm still feeling quite down, but it’s slowly getting better again as the weather cools again.

So yea, I've not been great. I really appreciate you checking in ❤️🫂

I'm in the process of learning to ask for help. I realize that not knowing something my peers already know doesn't mean I'm dumb.

There is no study milestone you have to reach. I am good in other topics where my peers lack knowledge. By talking about it, we can get to the same level.

Failing is part of the way. If we don't fail, we wouldn't know how sweet finally getting it feels, how rewarding it is to fully grasp a concept.

Never ever feel worthless, because you feel like you are falling behind. Asking for help isn't a weakness, it is strength because you know how to achieve your goals.

This is definitely something I needed to read today.

I had to take the last year off school because I was severly burnt out.Lost all my friends after a few weeks, but I still know that they're moving on with their education. I'm the one falling behind, even though I used to be top of the class. It often makes me feel so incredibly worthless and stupid, despite knowing that I'm just going down my own path.
