Allegra’s 8th Birthday
So as you can see, it has been a crazy year. initially, i didn’t want to have a party for Allegra but i agreed with myself to have a teeny tiny little “play date” cuz you all know that Allegra is the most understanding little (big) girl and she would have been totally cool with no party. but me on the other hand, different story. so we have recently gotten obsessed with American Girl dolls. this has been happening since Christmas. Chloe had an American Girl tea party but it wasn’t a Jessica Larsen event cuz we had it at their dance school but nonetheless, it was a great party but obvi not blog worthy. so yeah, it’s mid august and her party was July 2nd. but here i am now with pics and deets.
so keep in mind, this party...errr, i mean play date was meant to be small. so if you are reading this and our daughters are friends, please don’t be offended. it wasn’t supposed to be this dramatic.
anyway, let’s start with the invite. i had leftover paper from Chloe’s party and well, invites are just my thing (insert link to plug my Etsy shop here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/thepinkpaperie). All i had planned to do was make a lil flyer with a bunch of stars that resembled American Girl that said come over for some cake and bring ur doll, bla bla bla. then something made me grab tulle from my craft box and say lets make this work....
and this was the birth of “Allegra’s 8th Birthday Fashion Show”. I thought the tulle looked like curtains, then i thought runway, then i thought we...errr...i mean they can make stuff for their American Girl Dolls!
So i came up with some cute and semi-easy crafts that the girls can make for their dolls. there were 3 “designer stations”.
Tank Top Design:
this was super fun and i think a party fave. the girls got to draw on doll size tanks and pic out fun iron-on designs, which i ironed-on for them! all this fun and so simple to put together. i google searched for cute shapes and images and printed a bunch on iron-on paper, printed and cut each one individually.
Accessory Creations:
at this station, the girls stuck some bling on doll sized headbands and made bracelets for both themselves and their dolls. the beads got a lil bit out of hand tho, if you wanna try this, have a broom handy!
Designer Tutu’s:
this was the best station said none of Allegra’s friends ever!!! seriously tho, aside from Allegra, only 2 girls were into this. it was really tedious so i ended up making them while the girls got to Whip and Nae Nae. so there was about 200 pieces of tulle per skirt...yeah i know, i’m the problem. who wants to do that? there’s a thin line between fun and work. hahaha.
after all the fun things were made, we hosted a fashion show where the dolls got to show off their new trends. each girl got a pic of their doll from my fuji instax mini cam.
we also did a photo booth.
I made doll sized photo booth props and little VIP cards for the girls to insert their pics!
or in this case, papa and grandma.
now on to MY fave part! the food!! so i’ll start with the table setting. if you didn’t already notice, i went with a pink, red and purple theme.
i actually found star placemats at Target, which were for the 4th of July. my intentions were for the girls to color them during “down time” so i got really cute pink, red and purple crayons. but there was no down time, i think i need to work on time management a bit. all good tho, the girls still got to take the crayons home as an added favor!
so since it was an American Girl party and after many meals at American Girl Cafe in NYC, i decided to serve mini food and it came out cuter than i had ever expected.
i just need to add, i could not have done this alone. while i was ironing and teaching kids how to make bracelets, my bestie was hard at work making all this teeny tiny food. she did an awesome job!
and i couldn’t get a decent pic of the desserts cuz the kids attacked them! i tried to stick with the pink, purple and red theme.
the cake, of course, was an ice cream cake. i sent Baskin an image of what an American Girl doll box looks like but since the party was so small, they only made half the box =(
and finally, aside from all of their fashion designs and crayons, each girl got a swag bag to take home.
inside was a fashion show book with interchangeable paper dolls and dresses.
so that’s that. what was supposed to be a play date, turned into this craziness. it was a lot of fun for the girls but i think more fun for me to do all these cutesy little things. oh and don’t think our dollies didn’t party. they were having a blast watching it all!
