——about
trigger warnings: child neglect, substance abuse mention, accident resulting in death
both of his parents were users and unfit to raise a child, and despite getting multiple close close calls with social services, he was only briefly removed twice; once for three months when he was four and a second time when he was seven for six months where he stayed at a group home for that time period
his uncle started teaching him how to ride when he was three and by the age of eight he started races with his uncle’s help, guidance and support
he was a menace of a kid; always finding his way into trouble and causing chaos.
despite being trouble, Hunter was always good with fitting in, and create more trouble as a matter of fact
he was a good student, but he always excelled in sports, exhibiting a natural talent for whatever sport he would try at, especially football
despite being a troublemaker, he would always make it on the team. his natural ability to read the field, get a good throw a deliver had the coaches replace the quarterback at last minute when the game seemed lost, something that created tension often
he was finally adopted at fourteen by his uncle and his wife after years of trying. they already had a child that was two years older than Hunter and the two of them had always been friends
they immediately felt like family; the two of them worked in the garage for hours, and his adoptive mom was as if she had always been his mom
he earned a scholarship through sports and studied Mechanical Engineering in college, but his love had always been riding; he had a natural gift for riding, as if the motorcycle was an extension of him in a way and chose to follow a professional racing career even while completing his studies
Hunter travelled a lot, but after losing his best friend in a racing accident, he decided to move back home while focusing on his off road racing career and retired from track racing
six months ago he moved to Woodside, a town close to where his family lives
⸻ Upon the older man's question, Alice wasn't ashamed to tell about herself or her past. Not that she knows a lot of information. ❛ I do. I mean, my mother and father got me a few siblings, they're older. I'm the youngest. ❜ There was a seven-year gap between her and her middle sibling, and a bit longer with the oldest. The next question… ❛ Ahh. Not really. But my parents like me. So, it doesn't really matter in the end. ❜ The short memory Alice had of one of her siblings is of them fighting with her or trying to tease her negatively. As for her biological family, she has no memory or knows anything about them, except they 'died'.
❛ That will be my pleasure, sir. I could show places that not all tourists know. ❜ She explained, kind of missing her 'home country'. ⎯ Alice was in silence when he finished the race, and the press was surrounding him, her smile only grew when he cupped her face and deepened with his kiss, and she kissed him back passionately, a hand resting on his broad shoulder and the other on his waist. She maintained her gaze locked into his beautiful blue eyes, and his lips, tiptoeing, even though her boots had heels.
Part of her was tempted to ask him if there was something wrong with her face because their gaze remained locked until he broke the silence and the anxiety inside her vanished. ❛ I have a few commitments at work, but I can postpone if you have plans or want me to participate. ❜ It wasn't anything related to the Studio anyway, more like making advertising products on her social media.
───Eric found it easy to maintain a conversation with the younger woman; she was quite the opposite of his son, which was a breath of fresh air —and he could see why Hunter liked her, aside from her good looks. funnily enough, he thought that he would like to have a ‘daughter’ like Alice, so he made a mental note to ask Carl what his problem was with her and why he seemed so vexed with his son for bringing Alice along. “oh, I am sorry about that,” he said, almost apologetically like it was his fault. “I am glad my children get along,” he admitted in a fond tone. their biological child and Hunter had always been close, and the age difference was truly insignificant. he knew Hunter had been close to his younger half-siblings, too, but they all kind of lost touch when they moved away. the response drew him out of his thoughts and he smiled warmly. “we would absolutely love that!” Eric kept talking with Alice during the race, finding it rather easy to maintain a good talk with her, get to know her a bit more —he knew his wife was going to ask and he only had good things to say about the young woman.
when the race was finished it a little celebratory chaos both at the grandstands and the team’s tent; not that there was ever any doubt that Hunter would win, not to his team, knowing how he always made sure to come on top —he had proven that at Dakar too after falling behind while helping another rider. and no one was truly that surprised when his attention was focused solely on Alice as soon as he arrived at the setup.
“maybe I have a little plan in mind…” he teased, brushing her golden locks out of her face and tucking a strand or two behind her ear. he did want her to partake in the team’s tradition —she was today’s lucky charm anyway, she ought to get credit for the win, too— and Carl couldn’t possibly disapprove more; it had become quite plain they have a thing going; captured both in photos and video. “so we can drive back tomorrow morning,” his hand slid down the length of her arm, and then Carl pulled at his arm to get his attention, muttering an annoyed ‘you gonna pay any mind to the fans?’ Hunter looked at him over his shoulder. “yeah…now, on our way out,” he smiled at the older man, who glanced at both Alice and Hunter, evidently displeased, before walking away. the team was already starting to pack up, and so he made his way to the crowd who was waiting before they could leave.
Josie raised an eyebrow, her lips curling into a playful smile. “Oh, so you admit it then? You’re a terrible texter, but at least you’re being honest about it.” She nudged him gently with her elbow, eyes gleaming with mischief. “I’ll hold you to that promise to check more often. You can’t back out now.” Her heart warmed when he squeezed her hand, a quiet assurance in the gesture. She didn’t take his teasing seriously, but there was always something special about how Hunter made her feel seen like she mattered in a way few others did. "I’m glad I’m forgiven!"
At his comment about being a bad driver, Josie couldn’t help but laugh, shaking her head in mock disbelief. "I think it’s more like ‘adventurous.’ Let’s be real, the only thing you might be bad at is following the speed limit." He was a racer at heart, so could she blame him when he grew up defying the norm? As far as her birthday gift, she would hope he would forget like his abhorrent rate of returning text. Taking a sip from her drink, she eyed him more curiously. "On another note…have you been thinking about hanging up the helmet anytime soon?"
───” hey, I own up to my flaws,” he responded playfully —as if it would be of any use to deny it when all evidence suggested otherwise. “as you should,” a faint nod followed the statement; he was going to reply as soon as he saw the texts, was the plan, so that he wouldn’t be under the impression he had responded like it so often happened. even though they just had a playful banter, he did plan to keep his word and do better. unlike when he said he forgives her, for there wasn’t really anything to forgive, to begin with, he is aware she is busy with her work, doing her own thing, he did not expect her to keep up with every other event he was participating in.
“don’t worry, I’ll drive responsibly for you.” not that she wasn’t right per se, but he also tried to promote a responsible and safe riding attitude, especially among younger drivers. “I will take you on that ride,” Hunter pointed out, watching her with a mischievous little smile —and he would expect her to keep her word, as he would his. the following question though was a little unexpected; but one he would lie in his response to her. he had been asked by reporters a lot after retiring from MotoGP, it was a natural assumption, but he knew this wasn’t how she meant it. “maybe not soon, but…” he trailed off, shrugging a little. “in a few years, sure.” the thing is he is not old, but he is getting older and would want to focus on other things at some point. “maybe by my forties,” he laughed. “you know, settle down, have a family..” which hadn’t always been a goal, he had been too focused on his career. “do you ever think about it?” she is the mayor’s daughter, after all, she is quite the eligible bachelorette.
The placed was packed tonight which was surprising for a Thursday night but she remember a convention or something happening in town. The bright lights matched the rhythm of the music as she silently greeted people as they walked in. She saw someone take a seat in front of her. With a smile she said, “Hey stranger, what can I get you?”
───unlike Honey who was right in her element being the social butterfly and chatting with people all through the night, Hunter did not possess the patience for it; PR was best left for her to handle and for him it was better to focus on the more practical duties, while remaining mostly in the office throughout the night, only stepping out for brief breaks and a change of scenery before getting back to work. such was the occasion as he slipped on a vacant stool at the bar, smiling a little at Isabella’s greeting. “get me an old-fashioned…” he responded as he took a look around the packed place —which was nothing new for Nirvana anyway. “how is it going?” he asked, turning back to her, “seems like you’ve been busy..” an understatement, to say the least.
⸻ Alice blushed at his comment. Well, what a hard question but… ❛ I am adopted. It is safe to say I was very little when my family adopted me. I think I moved to Italy when I was still a toddler around two years old. Or younger, I don't know. I grow up in Venice. Move to America when I was 16 or something. During the high school. But I knew English because my mother is American, a New Yorker. ❜ She informed Eric not ashamed of telling him her origins. The Italian blonde had good English and her accent was nearly impossible to notice, and she often had a coach training for speaking on a live TV. ❛ Ahh, it is a nice place for a little romance. ❜ She winks playfully at Eric giggling at his words. ❛ Oh, yes! I have fond memories there. Sometimes it can be a little exhausting with a lot of tourists but on the other hand was nice to meet people from all over the world. I have to stay, it's different. ❜ Like any other country different culture, different habits. ❛ Ah, well… My father is a chef and my mother is a lawyer. I have siblings too, but we are all adopted. I'm the youngest. There is a certain age gap between me and my older brother. He is a doctor. ❜ And the family joy, but that part goes unsaid.
As soon as she joined Hunter while his father excused his presence for the time being, he seemed nice. She wonders what kind of impression his mother would have on her and if she would like her to. She hoped his father liked her. ⎯ She chuckled at his words, after turning on his bike, and feeling his touches lingering on her, and smiled at the soft kiss. The Italian blonde joined Eevie, with a sympathetic smile on her lips, dimples adorning her cheeks. ⎯ The race was longer, but it was worth watching, she was proud of Hunter. Not that she would ever doubt his abilities. She went to a place in which she had ZERO expectations of everything.
She beamed at the presence of Hunter, after the photo sessions and awards. ❛ You were incredible! ❜ She clapped her hand, looking up at him when words like… “I am here to collect,” He says, and before she would be able to say anything else his lips locked onto hers, and she kissed him back passionately, shoving her tongue inside of his mouth, ignoring the flashlights from the press and cameras upon them.
───it surprised the older man to hear that Alice was adopted as well, even though when it came to Hunter it wasn’t public knowledge and he had always been like a son to both him and his wife even before they could finally officially adopt him —something that hadn’t sat very well with his brother and his wife. it didn’t even cross his mind to tell her that, but even if it had, it felt it was not his place to either. Hunter had been older when he was adopted, he knew it and still, he always referred to them as mom and dad —perhaps it had been a little drastic to have him cut off all ties with his biological parents and move away, but Eric did not regret that decision. he offered Alice a soft, paternal smile. “do you have siblings?” he asked, even though he truly wanted to ask of her biological family, it did not feel proper or polite ( perhaps it was out of his own stress, for he often wondered how Hunter felt about them, too, but dared not ask ). as Alice responded about her siblings, he smiled again. “are you close with them?” his kids might not be biological siblings either, but they are close and he is really proud for it. it sounded like she came from a good family, even though it did not matter to him, as long as she made his son happy, it was a plus —and his wife would like it, he reckoned. “maybe next trip you will show us around a little if you are able,” he teased.
preparations for the race were brief before it started —he actually took longer to interact with Alice than getting set. and when it finished, he was easily whisked towards the press, his manager following close behind to direct him. sometimes it did get on his last nerve, but that wasn’t obvious to anyone around. simply, he didn’t see the need to answer a bunch of questions, that as of late were not related to the race or the event at all. it had been happening since his best friend’s passing, it picked right back up after quitting MotoGP and then when he asked Alice out on live TV. but he was done paying any mind, even more so when Alice came into the picture. he cupped her face in one hand, fingers delved into her locks, pressed against the back of her neck. an arm still wrapped around her, pulling her closer as she deepened the kiss. he shifted them a little so his back was to the press, mostly shielding her from view.
when he finally pulled back, though not really in a rush to put a hell of a lot of distance between them, he met her grey-blue hues. held her gaze, brushed a couple of golden locks out of her face. he had never really been in love like this before, and the more he got to know her, the more he fell for her —which was a first. “do you need to be back early for tomorrow?” normally, when they would drive more than a couple of hours out for a race, they would stay over and drive back the next day, it was like a tradition to celebrate with the team, not that he would mind heading back though.
"I mean, of course, I prefer in-person encounters above all else," she said with a playful smile. "But there’s something about the GIFs and memes I send you that just doesn't translate the same way in person." She knew that Hunter had a rigid schedule, and the fact that he had carved out time for her meant more than she could express. He was one of the few people with whom she felt completely authentic in every interaction, and she cherished that. "Okay, to be honest, I barely keep up with any sports—let alone you riding a bike. But I'm sorry for falling short of your expectations, love. I promise I’ll do better," she teased, reaching for his hand and giving it a reassuring squeeze. Taking a slow sip of her drink, she laughed softly at his question. "How about you gift me that experience for my 35th birthday? But if I end up with broken bones, you’re footing the hospital bill."
───he squinted playfully at her. “you make a good argument…” again went unsaid, but it was definitely implied. she was on a roll today, it seemed, he couldn’t win or rest any of the arguments. “I will check more often,” he laughed —and responded, but that wasn’t guaranteed. he is bad at texting, be it on an app or old-school messages, it’s a fact, and he is even worse with social media; hence why his accounts are handled by his team for the most part. his hand wrapped around hers when she reached for it, squeezing back lightly. “you are forgiven,” he teased. it would be ridiculous to think he meant it to begin with, when it was already pretty clear she was special to him. one of the few true friends outside of his usual circle of fellow athletes —and even those were few.
Hunter couldn’t help but laugh at her suggestion. head tilting slightly, eyebrow arching. “I have a feeling that implies I am a bad driver, but I am willing to let it slide…” he jested, giving her hand another squeeze before letting go. “just know I won’t forget about this until September, Jo, so don’t even think about taking it back.”
⸻ Her thoughts about the race weren't as far-fetched as she originally thought. She allowed the taller male to pull her closer, and she kissed his lips passionately, both of her arms wrapped around his neck. Although she wasn't aware that neither of them could enjoy this kiss much at the moment, he still had a race to participate in, and she would watch and support him in the best way she could. There is no expectation from her to him, if he hadn't asked her out in public as he did, she would never know he was a famous bike athlete. ⎯ She stayed with his father, hoping his old man did not hate her. Online people have a divided opinion about her… Good thing he didn't not know her too well or so she would like to think of that way.
❛ If it is not complicated, sure," she says to Eric, meeting his gaze when he speaks. he can’t do everything and can’t always win.’ He said and it was something she somehow noticed a little but couldn't be certain until her father brought it up, and she just nodded. So, that 'impression' she has from Hunter was right after all… ⎯ Alice was paler when he spoke about her, fortunately as it seems Eric isn't aware of her entanglements with her ex-boyfriend, and she feels like she could breathe a little. ❛ That's correct. I'm a weather reporter, I record the things at the station but sometimes on the local where it happens 'weather incidents'. Apart from what I do for a living, I'm Italian. ❜ She was born in the USA, but not that she knew much about herself in the past anyway. Off cameras, she has a subtle Italian accent, but overall when she is being filmed Alice does not have basically an accent. She always has a Coach to practice her diction on how to speak on TV.
❛ I grow up in Venice. ❜ She says to Eric, that she didn't know if she ever mentioned it to Hunter, but whatever… They live in the same place she assumes there will be a lot of time to catch up. A blonde brow rose as noticed the other man mumbling. ❛ He seemed so mad that Hunter missed the training yesterday, but he is full of confidence today. ❜ Naturally, Alice had no idea why his manager hated her so much. And kept focused on the track, for a moment and put a sunglasses because of the lightness was hurting a bit her eyes.
Once his father gave them privacy for a bit, she folded methodically the jacket she wore, adjusted the one Hunter put on her, and pulled her Prada sunglasses on her head as if it was a tiara, and her bangs half loose, half in her eyes. ⎯ ❛ I want to know even it, she or he is stupid. ❜ She does name some inanimate objects too. ⎯ She let him pull her closer, she did exactly what he was saying, and gave a peck on his lips. ❛ If you win, there will be a surprise for you, handsome. ❜ She winks at him flirty, gets in her position, since she can't be with him now that the race is about to start, and joins his father. She was so focused on Hunter, that hadn't noticed the paparazzi snap a picture of them.
───Eric offered a smile. ‘I usually read about the weather on the news report, but my wife will know of you,’ he laughed, fondly. not that he had a lot of free time to watch TV as he was usually traveling with Hunter. the older man’s interest was further intrigued when she mentioned her nationality. ‘you are?’ he asked, a little surprised but in a good way. ‘how long have you been in the States?’ he had noticed the subtle drawl in her tone, but hadn’t been able to place it much other than being, maybe, a European —which wasn’t wrong either, in a sense. ‘we went to Italy for our honeymoon,’ he admitted in an upbeat tone, still smiling at Alice. ‘we would like to go back someday soon! do you miss it?’ he could only guess, of course, as he had never had to be away from home for an extensive period of time, let alone move abroad. ‘and your family?’ he inquired before she could respond to his previous question. ‘I don’t mean to pry, only if you are comfortable talking about it…’ he reassured her, softly.
when she pointed out the manager being grumpy, Eric laughed a little. ‘pay him no mind, Hunter knows what he is doing, it’s not his first race,’ but even as he said that he meant to talk to the other man to find out what the mumbling was about. and he discreetly excused himself to mingle with the rest of the team, while Hunter was talking to Alice once more as they headed to the start line.
Hunter smiled a little at her comment, a touch lingering on her lower back. as she turned on the bike, he laughed softly at her words. “that’s motivation enough,” he responded in a playful manner, pulling her closer to press a soft kiss against her lips. once Alice stepped away, he started the dirt bike, waited for it to be scanned and be given the clear to go so his part of the race could start. ‘come shit with me,’ Eevie told her softly, with a friendly smile, as she headed back to the team’s set up.
the race was over for him after nearly three hours; a little shy of, certainly, for he had kept the best times in mind that he wanted to beat —and of course, he had to finish first, he has a reputation to uphold, aside from the pressure he puts on himself to win. once the ceremony was over, given their trophies and having tones of pictures taken, he headed over to the team set up —discreetly ignored his manager who came to walk beside him, talking about something, again— wrapping an arm around Alice as he pulled her a little closer. he playfully whispered a “I am here to collect,” before smiling down at her for a moment. his manager mumbling about the press through gritted teeth, and still, he barked on deaf ears as Hunter leaned in slightly to kiss her for a moment.
When Amara had made her return to Woodside almost a year ago, she hadn’t told anybody. She knew her father would do that for her — he was a proud father. Honestly, if she were to think about it, anybody who knew anything about Amara was all due to the efforts of that singular man. Her wins were broadcasted to the whole world, and he had a particular skillfulness for twisting her losses into something less… tragic. He would tell her too; explain what he’d said, in great detail, and to whom.
Today, he was regaling her with the tales of his recent visit to the community center — of the youth basketball team he was coaching, and how he’d told them all about his daughter who had met several members of the Detroit Pistons. He’d been doing just that when a knock sounded at his front door. She glanced at her dad, waiting for him to leave to answer, but when he continued about the kitchen, Amara rolled her eyes as called out behind her, “Don’t worry, pops. I’ll get it.” There was a gasp when she pulled the door open to find Hunter standing there. Her high school boyfriend. If you could even call him that. It felt like a lifetime ago.
“Hunter? Oh my God, hi,” she greeted, immediately wrapping him in a hug. Upon pulling back, she found herself smiling up at him, “Yeah, c’mon — let me let you in. Dad’s busy getting the meat ready for the smoker.” Amara grabbed the garage key off the hook by the door, and led Hunter towards the weathered garage door. Glancing over her shoulder, she shook her head in disbelief, “You look good. I’ve been following your career… I’m real happy for you.”
───though the hug was a little unexpected, it was not an unwelcomed one; his arms wrapping around her in turn, a smile still tugging on his lips at the sight of her. given the time they had both been back in town their paths should have crossed sooner, but his schedule was busy and from what he heard about her work, he did not doubt that hers was as well. even though they hadn’t kept in touch through the years, it was hard not to hear of her simply from running into her dad every now and then and getting the latest of her achievements —and it was truthfully always nice for him to hear she was doing well; great even.
“if you are sure it’s okay,” he began as he started following her inside, felt a little bad for interrupting their father-daughter time, even if he meant to be quick anyway. he was about to argue he could come back at a different time when she grabbed the keys, so he figured that there would be no point in even bringing it up. and perhaps it was a good chance to catch up with her too, after all this time, it would be nice to hear from her than to hear about her, for once.
“thank you," a smile curled on his lips at her following words; soft, but genuine. “I have been following your career too, you know,” he teased, just the way was a little unconventional, especially given they had been kind of on and off together in high school. “your dad gives me all the deets,” a playful tone, for only the best was ever said about her. “he seems to like me a lot better now,” he laughed a little; even if it was true, it was all in good-humored. approaching the truck in question, he popped the hood, then walked around to open it up so he could get to working on the car. “have you settled in?” he knew she had been around for a year, but sometimes it takes longer to adjust —he was six months here and still struggled with the pace a little from time to time.
With a chuckle, Patrick raised both his arms over his head and stretched out his shoulders, folding his arm down and pulling on his elbow. “Glad I’m not the only one feeling it in my old age,” he said with a drip of sarcasm. Sure, Pat was in his midthirties but he’d spent years abusing his body, treating it as if it was replaceable. And sure, he spent nearly the last decade working like a dog to undo that damage, but even on his best days, he’s not where a man in his thirties could be; at least, physically. Despite it all, he fell easily back into step once they parted ways, fists slamming against the bag as if that’s what they were made to do.
One, hit, two, hit-hit.
Smooth. Easy. There was electricity racing through his veins at the prospect of getting in the ring with someone, even if it wasn’t a ‘real’ fight. He’ll hold his own, obviously; he wanted to have some fun this morning. But Patrick wasn’t in the business of beating up his paying customers. He stepped away from the mat and lifted his shirt from the collar, wiping it over his face before laughing along with Hunter. “Don’t worry,” he chuckled, “I was at it for at least an hour before you got here - I’m exhausted, man. You could easily put me on my ass right now.”
───they are not old, per se; Hunter does not feel old, by any means, but still he is not in his early twenties. athlete or not. he can still do everything he could back then, but it has its toll, whether he likes it or not, recovery time is not the same. Dakar is hard as it is and the fact that he barely gives himself a moment to rest after, not even for a couple of days, adds to it; he wasn’t simply messing with Patrick when he mentioned it. regardless, he is glad they can humor themselves a little about it, as well as for the offer given that he doesn’t really feel in the mood to work out, even when he is already halfway there by being at the gym. in truth, if it wasn’t for his competitive nature, he probably would still be in bed.
after talking himself into doing so warm-ups, followed by a bit of weights, he made his way over to Patrick just when he started feeling that he would rather head home than push through another set. “I highly doubt it,” he laughed but joined the other man nonetheless; not for an actual fight, he hoped, they could just spar and run through some drills for a while. and it’s not like he puts any less than a hundred percent into each step, but it doesn’t make the fact that he feels sore and spent after having ridden dunes for long distances for the past two weeks. “next time, we will make sure you give me a challenge…” he said once they had about wrapped up; people started coming to get their morning exercises in and he was about to call it a day at the gym. “or better yet, grab a beer,” he laughed; he was teasing, of course, he was down for them to do both.
───despite living in Woodside now, for the past couple of months he hardly had time to keep up with what was going on in town. the holidays, followed by a bunch of competitions he was scheduled to compete in, and then the fact that he was working on building a foundation to help the youth get into the sport, was taking up a lot of his time. however, there were people he had known for years, so he would make time to help where he could. just like how he dropped by to help look at Amara’s dad’s truck as he said he would when he ran into him at the grocery store the day before. he had only heard that Amara was back through her father —it wasn’t like they had kept in touch, he had hardly spoken to her since she left for London all those years ago— but was often made aware of how she was doing when he would cross paths with her old man; and he was glad to know she had been doing alright, even if it had been a little unexpected to find she was back in town, it made sense too. at least to him, but that could be because he is close to his family, hence why he moved so close to them when the opportunity presented itself. still, he thought nothing of it when he drove up to her house, knocked on the door ony to be met with Amara. "hey," he said after a moment, "I am here to look at your dad's truck," he added with a small smile. ( @theiressence / Amara Washington )
"You know," she said teasingly, "as much as I love you, Hunter, you're absolute shit at responding to texts. Do I need to hire a Gen Z-er to be your assistant?" Her voice was playful, but there was a hint of slight concern. It had been a while since she’d seen him. She had missed him, missed the raw, unfiltered freedom he exuded. It was the kind of authenticity she longed to embrace herself. Still, she wasn’t quite daring enough to ride one of his bikes. Not yet. "So," she continued, "fill me in...what’s life been like? Any upcoming competitions that I need to make some epic signs for?"
───he cannot help but laugh a little at her words; she is right, there is no argumentative point he could raise that’d be valid enough ( or true enough ) to claim otherwise. he either forgets or he is under the impression that he has responded —only to later find this is very seldom the case. the fact that he doesn’t spend a great deal on his phone does not really help either. “maybe it’s my tactic to make you wanna see me, in person, instead,” he responded in a teasing tone, winking at her. either way he is glad they managed to schedule this catch up date. “and looks like I am not the only bad one at keeping up with the times, huh…” this time it’s his turn to mess with her a little. “you just about missed a couple, but you have time for XGames.” which he is quite stocked about given it’s a different kind of the ones he has been doing lately. “how about you? changed your mind about a ride yet?” he has known Josie for as long as he can remember, and yet still hasn’t managed to convince her to give her a ride, not when he is on a bike at least —not to pressure her, but he likes to bring it up every now.
⸻ Her cheeks blushed even more when he said her query wasn't dumb. She knew all of it was part of him too. Her grey-bluish hues locked into his gaze and she smirked softly, feeling him pulling her strands off her face as he explained how everything really works on this kind of race. ❛ Three laps… Wow! But makes sense. ❜ She remained in silence as he explained everything to her. ⎯ ❛ I didn't even know there was a Moto GP, I just imagined it was like F1 but with motorcycles. ❜ She shrugged her shoulder nonchalantly. Perhaps, this is why she was a tad shocked to see this is the place they would race, not something organized like F1. This one definitely is pure adrenaline, risky, and adventurous. ❛ Try not to come broken into pieces when you finish the race. ❜ She winked flirty at him, holding herself back from kissing him now.
She looked at his father. ❛ FMX? Is it another race competition? ❜ She inquired curious. ❛ It is what he does, so… I support him as long as he is happy. If it is making him feel bad then I wouldn't. ❜ She pointed out, that she is glad he has supportive parents. Her mother was supportive of her career until shit goes down online. ⎯ After finally get a moment quiet and not pictures she sat by Eric's side again, crossing her leg to the side. She took his hand and let an ' ohh ' escape from her mouth. ❛ Did he? Good things I hope! ❜ And now she got a little nervous at this piece of information. She does hope his father never Googles her online, after all her past condemned her.
She chuckled when he brought her a jacket, she removed hers and wore the one he put on her. ❛ Now I can be your cheerleader, handsome. ❜ Alice says smirking. The blonde was tempted to kiss him but it wasn't because there was a lot of people eyeing them… She didn't want to be the one to delay him. ❛ Yes! I had no idea I could start her or him… ❜ From her understanding maybe his bikes have names too.
───Hunter laughed a little at the comment. “MotoGP is kinda like F1, but with bikes,” he confirmed. every circuit track race is, but that is just naturally assumed. not that it is not hard enough, but to him, it no longer gave that same adrenaline rush an off-road event does; the spirit is just different when it comes to joining an Enduro race, never knowing what to expect even if you have walked the terrain and mapped out the track —he thought it posed more of a challenge to him after spending so many years racing for Ducati on MotoGP, and the transition to KTM for off-road had come naturally to him. another laughter fell from his lips at her words, gently tugging her closer as his lips pressed against hers for not nearly as much time as he would have liked to.
leaving her with his father as he went to get changed did not worry him, his dad would never make her feel uncomfortable, not on purpose. and they easily fell into conversation; a smile adorned the older man’s lips as he responded to her questions. ‘it is, but it is doing tricks with bikes,’ Eric elaborated, ‘I’ll tell him to show you.’ because he isn’t as tech suave as some people think, he does barely use a phone for texts and calls. ‘that’s the idea,’ the older man smiled at her again, meeting her gaze. ‘I like the way you are thinking,’ a beat, ‘but sometimes he needs to be reminded he can’t do everything and can’t always win.’ a concept he isn’t certain of whether Alice is aware of or not, but Hunter always puts himself under the pressure to win whatever even he is participating in; can hardly say no when he is booked for another event, even like this one, so soon after a major one like Dakar, too. ‘yes,’ he laughed. ‘I am told you are a weather reporter and recently moved in town.’ and there is a little mumbling coming from Hunter’s manager at that, but it is not easy to make out what he is commenting.
when he came back, his father gave a little space to the two of them. Hunter watched her put on the jacket, smirking a little at the comment; his blue eyes meeting her grey-blue hues for a moment —damn him, who would have told him he’d be falling in love like that. it wasn’t even new or fleeting; she had been stuck in his goddamn head ever since Austria. “it’s stupid,” he said, it is also a little hard to explain to someone who isn’t into bikes like that, but he is glad she seems understanding and interested. “some call them her, or him, or it…” he explained as he took the bike off the stand, begun leading the way to the start line. there were a lot of people around; press, spectators, fans, coordinators, people from the organization. when the bike ahead of them was good to go, he took their place; wrapped an arm around Alice as he pulled her closer to him after mounting the bike. “you the key and then you flip this switch,” he explained, his arm still around her —and there was no need to guess; they had photos taken every second.
