The impact to his back caused Remus to let out a sound but as Dorcas’ voice quickly followed he let himself calm down. Grateful that someone had literally ran into him, that he wasn’t alone, and to know that Dorcas was okay- that she had managed to get away. Though his stomach twisted at the fact he didn’t know about anyone else. Didn’t know if James and Sirius and Peter and Lily were safe or not… Her words pulled him from his thoughts and he looked down at the front of his shirt for a second, squinting against the dim light. “I think so?” There had been so much chaos, cursing flying every direction, people running and screaming, collisions with bodies and wands and curses- It had all been a blur and he couldn’t exactly remembered what happened to cause the wound. “I’ll be fine though- I’ve had worse.”
His eyes quickly scanned over Doe, searching for any signs of injuries but it was hard to do so in the darken corridor and without his wand. “Are you okay?” He asked, wanting to say more but fell instantly silent as footsteps could be heard quite far away. The fear and panic seemed to have ebbed away, now the only thing on his mind was to help the others- help anyone that they could. But without their wands, what were they supposed to do. Looking at Doe he ran a hand over his face, “We gotta do something.” He finally muttered, “Anything. I need to make sure everyone is safe- Even the bloody Slytherins…”
Dorcas ignored the noise that spilled from Remus’ lips, one of her hands wrapped around his arm. She could feel the concern radiating from herself in waves, her gaze warm and conflicted - the pain that she was feeling from her leg distracting as she glanced him over. The wound didn’t seem like it was pouring blood anymore, which was good, but it still looked painful. She pressed her lips together to stop herself from snapping at him, knowing tensions were running high and she couldn’t afford to lose him, whether it was in the corridors or she really did lose him. “You better be sure.” Her voice was gentle, terse, and she gently rubbed her thumb over the crook of his elbow. She couldn’t even remember where Lily had been. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d seen her own best friends smiling. It all felt so far away, so long ago, although it had only been minutes. “I’m not sure whether to bombard you with questions about that or what.”
Doe subconsciously shuffled her left leg away, hiding it beneath the fabric of her dress as she nodded. “I’m fine, Rem.” Her voice felt obliterated, but she sounded more calm than she did after exams. Her senses, heightened, heard the footsteps coming and clenched her jaw shut. She needed to find the others. She knew Marlene was somewhere in the hallways, she couldn’t have gotten far, and Regulus, too, was out here somewhere - Rabastan was somewhere, Mary had hightailed it out of there and everyone else was nowhere to be seen. “We can’t go up to the dorms. They could follow us. We have to find the others.” Her words are mumbled, her head leaning on the wall next to Remus. She didn’t have time to pick apart the last comment, knowing people didn’t understand that her distrust of Slytherin’s didn’t inherently exist. “Did you see anyone else? Before we got stuck here?”
