Some FAQ about why I’m getting Andrew Hussie art tattooed on my leg.
Q: Why would you get him permanently tattooed on your body?
A: Honestly there’s no real reason as to why I’m doing this, partially to be chaotic, partially because why not? (See the last Q for the full reasons)
Q: Hussie has many claims against him irl for being transphobic, mildly pedophilic, racist, ableist, the list goes on. Are you praising him?
A: I’m not praising him or anything Hussie irl is a piece of shit and has confirmed to be one in many cases. He’s a cryptic guy who ended up way over his head and actually is believed to hate the fandom as a whole. I’ve already passed the limit of things asked that artists not do so I figure there’s no real going back at this point.
Q: You’re getting a lot of mixed responses to this, how do you feel about the people who don’t like what you’re doing at all?
A: I can understand why they’re upset considering what a flaming garbage pile everything has turned into and they bring up a lot of valid points. I’ve had multiple artists submit art making fun of Hussie(especially with LGBT themes) and that’s kind of what I’m going for? I feel like there’s irony somewhere mixed into the chaos of my project and the people pissed off at me(as well as I myself) don’t quite understand it yet.
Q: Are you getting art of him irl or just his comic self-insert?
A: Mostly just his self-insert, yellow skin and green shirt. Hussie irl is not really a force to mess with(especially with the claims mentioned above) and I don’t believe in getting realistic portraits of anyone tattooed on your body is a good idea unless you’re planning to spend the big bucks. Some artists have done art of him with the yellow skin but also given him facial hair and eboy outfits like irl. This is alright to me but anything past that I might have to decline.
Q:Are you supporting Homestuck now as a company(affiliated with WeLoveFine and VIZ Media)?
A: I believe WeLoveFine has some good creator content but is kind of overpriced so I support them when I can. I’m still sad that WhatPumpkin is no longer available, though when they did their BLM charity sale I did buy some small stuff that I could afford. I usually support small-time fan artist content and merch (on Etsy and freelance) though. VIZ Media is meh in my opinion; I’ve heard of them kind of bullying artists so like Hussie irl I’m going to try to stay away from them.
Q: Going back to Andrew Hussie’s self insert, how do you feel about him writing himself to be attracted to Vriska, who is canonically a minor?
A: I personally think it’s disgusting, I feel no sympathy for any pedophiles at all, being taken advantage of (and r*ped) multiple times by several in the past. I’d like to ignore it but I can’t, which is why I encourage parody art of him to be drawn. I have to say as well though that those things rule into adults irl who self ship with characters that are canonically minors, but that brings up a whole other thing I don’t think the internet is ready for.
Q: Why are you getting the tattoos on your left leg specifically?
A: The leg is the easiest thing to cover in case of a job demanding no tattoos or I regret it later on in life. I also already have plans for my other three limbs and my left leg is the only one without any tattoos at all.
Q: What are you going to do once Hussie (or any other Homestuck affiliations) catches wind of what you’re doing?
A: I honestly don’t know yet. I’m fairly certain nobody will care because I’m not making money off of it and I’m not harming my body in any way.
Q: Are you actually supporting artists(commissioning, etc) or are you only taking free art?
A: The plan is to get the tattoos after the pandemic is over. I am currently jobless so right now I’m taking what I can get for free but will commission as soon as I can afford to. Due to money and health reasons I will also only get a few pieces done at a time.
Q: Why tattoos specifically?
A: I could have them made into stickers or magnets sure, but they won’t be permanent. I’ve been in the Homestuck fandom for nearly a decade now and the amount that’s already practically tattooed into my brain, as well as the impact it’s had on my life, should be enough to validate getting art permanently on my body.
Q: Why Hussie specifically?
A: Andrew Hussie created Homestuck, without him it definitely wouldn’t exist. He’s a terrible person but he brought together thousands (possibly millions) of people into this huge online community that I don’t know if I’d still be alive today without. The amount of people I’ve met over the years in this trash fandom definitely take away from the suicidal thoughts over years of depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses, and even my OCs (which I wouldn’t have today without Homestuck either) have helped in that case for venting and just expressing myself. Yea he’s not ideal as a human but he made something that I don’t know if I’d be alive today if I didn’t have as an outlet. I have less serious reasons for it as well like being chaotic and it’s funny but the impact that he’s actually made in the world, and on me personally, definitely takes the cake. I can say I respect him as an artist and a writer (being one myself) but he’s a weird guy and most of his self insert scenes I can relate to on a level of chaotic and as a personification of being trapped alone with dark thoughts.
