“It is very frustrating not to be understood in this world. If you say one thing and keep being told that you mean something else, it can make you want to scream. But somewhere in the world there is a place for all of us.”

what do you imagine at night

I can never sleep on night’s when the moon is full. Have they forgotten what an artist is supposed to be? We would sit in rooms for hours - messing with electronic legos until they contrasted just right. Hours and hours of odd solitary creation with another person is like being a couple of bubbles whose outer surfaces are connecting. The era was fascinating. An organic resurgence of political importance lay with artists in the battle against the militarized state. I would read political philosophy texts in college that taught me what it means to rule with an iron first--one cannot maintain innocence. Injustice was leveled on African-Americans daily and technology was finally moving fast enough to mirror the violence and racism the history books had tried to erase. It felt like floundering. Like the entire race was flopping on a washed up shore. What could we make that would encapsulate these horrors? How could we record and commemorate the social atrocities that made us embarrassed to be human?
