“--- I can’t either,” Marcus absently scratched at the stubble that coated his shaped jaw. Then again, he shaved practically EVERY DAY so it never really had the opportunity to grow in. “It’s not really a bad thing, though, is it?”

“If you can put a BAND-AID on it, you don’t need to be here,” Kai commented flatly, attention on the paper work in front of him as he tapped his pen against the edge of his jaw thoughtfully.
Marcus could see that the scruffy male was moving his mouth to speak, but he made NOTHING out, so he walked forward and tapped Malechai on the shoulder and pointed from his own eyes to the blonde’s lips. He HATED reminding people that he couldn’t hear, but if he didn’t then he wouldn’t be able to talk to his friends and that... that sucked. “Sorry, I uh -- I didn’t catch that. Can you REPEAT it?”

“Come with me to the beach, they said. It’ll be fun, they said. You’ll have a blast. Well it was a blast all right but not the good kind.”

the question took her by surprise & amelia needed a moment to find the right answer. “ i don’t know. “ it wasn’t what she wanted to say , but it was the truth. “ i mean i dated someone before and it was great , but it wasn’t meant to last. “ was that really love ? the witch sighed before she reached for her drink , downing it so she could smile at him too. “ what about you ? have you ever been in love before ? “
for a moment, marcus felt REALLY BAD for asking a question like that. it was incredibly personal and almost invasive and, if he could, he would take it back so the awkward feeling that gripped at his insides could vanish, but... here they were. “i’m... SORRY it didn’t last,” he then said, hands forming the words out of habit. “me? uh... no,” the human then shook his head. “that was NEVER on the cards for me, i guess.”

“I ONLY cared about sports,” he simply shrugged. Marcus was all for representation and standing up for what was right and just, but he was NEVER one for standing on the front lines nor showing up with banners and badges, most of his young life revolved around him and his path -- everything else be damned, basically. Thankfully, he had changed quite drastically since those days. “Wow... it’s like you’ve taken a SHARPIE to your tongue,” he laughed, sticking his own out which was a soft purple by now. “How’s mine?”

Which was why the mermaid had developed a huge weakness for any kind of sweet things. “And we are all wrapped up in our own world now and then, I guess? Some of us because they want, some because they have no other choice….” She shrugged, remembering the endless arguments with her mother about wanting to live in the human world as well, and not only under the sea for the rest of her life. @hvmxnc
“Yeah, we sure are,” the New Zealander nodded. Him more so than those around him, it would seem. For most of his life, it had been WHAT CAN I ACHIEVE and there was little focus elsewhere, but he liked to believe he was doing better in that category, though his lack of a social circle would often beg to differ. “I think people tend to SURPRISE one another, so there’s always that,” he signed while speaking. “Want some more?” he held out the candy floss to her.

“Came here about four months ago.” Axel explained. “Back home it wasn’t like this, we had a Christmas parade but my mom was always working so I just never went.” He gave a small shrug, remembering watching it on the location tv station from the carpet of his living room with his pet ferret, Bandit. Being here now, it was a lot different than what he’d imagined and in the best way possible. He glanced up, really listening to catch the drummer he was talking about. “Oh yeah you’re right, good catch. Are you a musician?”
“TWO YEARS for me,” Marcus added to the conversation. It might’ve been two years, but for him it still felt like he was in his first few months of staying there -- he hadn’t really allowed himself to FULLY INTEGRATE so was finding himself catching up... very slowly. “That’s understandable, I guess,” he nodded. He could relate in some aspect, though in Marcus’ case it was more of a self inflicted thing as he had CHOSEN to focus on his rugby than attend things like this -- they were almost meaningless to him. Now, obviously, he had a different track to go down in life so his attitude had somewhat shifted. “No, I’m not. I’m actually deaf,” he pointed to his own ears. “Sound creates a VIBRATION and, if it’s loud enough, I can feel it. It works better when I’m not wearing any shoes, though.”

amelia bit her lip while she waited for his reaction. she really didn’t want to make things awkward - she just didn’t mind talking about these things & she always hoped that people felt the same way about it. the witch gave him a smile before she shrugged as well. “ same. i don’t think i fit any of the labels. if i fall in love , i’m in love. the gender wouldn’t matter to me. “ that wasn’t how attraction worked. not for her anyway.
marcus nodded to show that he was PAYING ATTENTION to what the blonde was saying, but with everything that was going on around him, he was finding it hard to focus on the shapes that her lips made so he missed every other word that she said, meaning he had to PIECE TOGETHER what he had caught and fill in the blanks, but luckily the topic was linear enough to understand without much effort. “have you uh -- have you EVER been in love before, then?” he asked, still smiling softly at the woman.

A COCKTAIL of reasons had led Marcus to this point as the human found himself unable to break the smile that stretched his lips. Maybe it was the RAINBOW DRINKS that Malechai had been supplying him all day, or that the mere atmosphere was INTOXICATING enough, but one thing was for sure; Marcus couldn’t bring himself to regret his display of happiness:

marcus paused for a moment, not entirely sure HOW to answer such a question -- in all the years that he had lived, he had not once actually LABELLED himself in terms of sexuality and had never really been pushed on the matter, either. in fact, this was probably the first time he had been asked where he found his alignment. “kind of?” he spoke while signing. “but not really?” he scratched at his face and shrugged. “--- you...?”

It was filled with cola and a bit of liquor, it was a celebration after all. Walt silently offered Marc the cup with a raise of his brow
“It’s NOT SO BAD, Wally,” Marcus chuckled softly as his head bobbed a little from side to side. On some level, the PE teacher could understand the shorter male’s avoidance of large groups of people, but if Marcus had to endure it then so did Walter. It was only fair. When the cup was offered to him, the brunette handed over the candy floss to the other so he could take the cup. Without thinking much about it, he took a short sip before coughing slightly. “This is GOOD,” he smiled, then took another drink. “Remind me to get myself one of these cups before it finishes.”

“It’s my first parade too.” He was technically working the event, picked up an added security slot to be safe guard whoever was celebrating from anything that wanted to rain on their parade. So he knew he probably shouldn’t indulge but that being said, he absolutely wanted the candy floss. Axel plucked a piece of floss and placed it into his mouth with an appreciative. “Thanks.”
Marcus nodded in an UNDERSTANDING manner as he continued to offer the male some of the sugary confectionery. “Not much of a town spirit guy, or not really a fan of large crowds in tight spaces?” he arched a brow, genuinely curious to find out why the male had NEVER attended one before. He offered him a tight lipped smile and ate some more. “I kind of feel sorry for the people who aren’t used to hearing LOUD NOISES,” he chuckled. How ironic, he couldn’t help but think. Marcus often hated the fact he was deaf, but sometimes - just sometimes - it came in handy. Today was one of those days as people marched on by banging sticks against drums that sent VIBRATIONS through his very core. “One of the drummers is out of time, though. That must be... distracting.”

And that people celebrated it like a holiday. “I can’t even tell if we had things like this back home,” she shrugged, and took some of the offered candy floss to let it melt in her mouth. “Hmm… brilliant! “I think we did,” Marcus replied, hands moving as he signed his words as he referenced his own home town, “but it was NEVER to this scale and I was never involved. I had TOO MUCH to focus on. I was... wrapped up in my own world, so to speak,” he shrugged slightly. Becoming a professional rugby player had become Marcus’ lifetime goal, so he often lacked when it came to town events and the like. Now, however, that dream was over and... HERE HE WAS. “Not a problem. You can have some more if you want,” he offered it to her again. “I’ll will probably buy some more later, anyway.”

Kai chuckled, shaking his head as the other placed his own thoughts on the matter. “Of course you like it. It’s sugar. Don’t eat too much, though, you’d get sick.” Shrugging, Kai took some of the sweet rainbow candy himself, shoving it into his mouth before grinning widely. “Yeah, but don’t worry, we’ll get that CHERRY popped up soon enough,” he joked, patting the other man’s arm. Nodding, he gave Marcus another smile. The LGBT community surely did right with their parties and parades. Even being a community that dealt with so much hate, they embrace love. Marcus was right, it WASN’T like any other parade. “Yep, five people, that’s right,” he nodded, taking another handful of cotton candy. “— and then bath in FOOD-COLORED MILK.”
Marcus just watched the male speak, nodding slowly as he took the advice on board. He NORMALLY didn’t go overboard with sugary treats, what with his fitness regime and habit of only stocking up on healthy foods when he went shopping. Still, this seemed to be an IMPORTANT EVENT for the town, so why not take advantage of that and cut loose for a while? Though, if eating sugar was the only thing that Marcus could do to ‘LIVE ON THE WILD SIDE’ he was sorely in need of some... well, anything that would offer more excitement or things to do. “Cherry popping...?” Marcus signed as his eyebrows arched inquisitively. “I’m not sure I understand that phrase. What does it mean?” The PE teacher was far from innocent, but coming from a small town in New Zealand, he hadn’t been exposed to as much slang that seemed to be used over in the states. He was STILL learning the ropes in terms of differential languages. “If that’s what I have to do then... okay? Wanna help me?” he asked, still moving his hands to form the words as he spoke. “Wait... what? SERIOUSLY? I think you’re taking the piss now, right...?”
