random sechskies stuff

• a bunch of people didn’t like sunghoon back in the 90s bc he smiled too much (so a h.o.t fan spat in his face & a shinhwa fan pulled on his long luscious hair)

• jiwon, the dictator, would always get first dibs and choose the bread that tasted the best whenever their manager bought them bread. suwon would get the worst one bc he apparently had no willpower to do anything ever

• jaejin was asked who out of sechskies he would date if the members were all girls, and he chose jiyong bc he had a really skinny waist

• jaeduk was the only one to not date any celebrities back in the 90s bc he had a gf back in busan (suwon: no one would date him lol)

• jiwon & sunghoon think all cockroaches are the main epitome of evil in this world

• suwon & jaeduk would often call each other honey when they worked as j-walk. and then they kinda stopped after jaeduk became friends w tony

• jaejin would always get left behind bc he would go to the restroom and the van would forget about him and just leave w the other 5 members

• sechskies went on this show where they would have to try not to laugh when the comedians tried to make them laugh. all the comedians were scared shitless of jiyong bc he would never laugh at their comedy

Edited together a compilation of some of my favourite Sechskies stages. Mostly clips from 인기가요 and 음악캠프 between 1997 to 2000 set to “탈출” from Welcome to the Sechskies Land ✨

I transcribed and translated the beginning of the infamous Sechskies performance of Chivalry to provide some context. It’s funnier when you know the lyrics are about protecting the one they love LOL.

The rumour is Jiwon said it to prove that they were singing live. They did a lot of pranks like this back in the 90s- usually just replacing Korean verses with random English ones and singing other member’s parts of songs. Broadcasting rules were super strict back then; certain dance moves, outfits and even coloured hairstyles were banned on stage for the longest time. It’s fair to think they did it as an act of rebellion.

I don’t know what prompted Jiwon to say those specific lines but he learnt English while living in Hawaii as a teen so he knew full well what he was saying.

It’s awesome to see this infamous performance making the rounds on the internet again! But question @jaeducs IIRC weren’t there also criticisms about the group lip-syncing during performances when they weren’t back then, so he (and other members at 1:40 and later in the full performance, idk who tho) did that to prove they weren’t? That’s what I had read a while back, but can’t look for confirmation at the moment.

Also, I’d like to offer corrections to the captions: at the 0:40 mark (and at the aforementioned 1:40 with diff member in full version), Jiwon’s definitely saying “Just make that tootsee roll!” with a T, not a P (reference to the American song “Tootsee Roll” by 69 Boyz, which he definitely knows since he was in Hawai`i when it was released and got really popular).

First of all yes. It is suggested they did this to prove more or less that they could sing live. HOWEVER most first gen artists only sung live occasionally so personally my theory is that the members liked to adlib to show off that they were performing live. Usually the adlibs being more cheeky- like Sunghoon adding “Lalalala” or the random English verses being inserted here.

The truth has never been confirmed (or denied) outright so as far as we know Jiwon just decided to swear because he felt like it. LOL.

Also on your second point lol- Actually between Yellowkies I’ve talked to it’s an even split between whether it’s “tootsie roll” or “pussy roll” but there are multiple reasons it could be either. I personally believe it’s “pussy roll” because here in the other less infamous live Chivalry performance here he says “that’s the pussy I love that” and if you combine it with the beginning of the original clip when he says “the fucking dick is in your pussy” it really paints a picture of a young guy who really just loves to say the word pussy.

Also I don’t know why people think they got banned for this or wanted to get banned. Sechskies had their first win ever with Chivalry. They finished their promotions after a normal amount of time and I’ve literally never seen any Korean source say they were banned from broadcast. I keep seeing this a lot lately and it’s frustrating lol.

edit: Also they definitely say “Here we come it’s Jekki” lol. I know every single sechskies song inside out- including the sinful alibaba and the 40 thieves album.

Also the other member who also adlibbed was Sunghoon.

why did sechskies go to guam to shoot a mv (with the worst camera work) for summer in love, a song that isn't even popular or liked?? at times like this i wish the rumours of sm taking over sechskies had been true...

first of all- you're right. it was weird for them to release a music video for summer in love, a song that nobody likes. but you know what makes it weirder? there's no music video for com'back, the title track of the album. weird right? so my theory is that the video was supposed to be a video for com'back.

the summer in love video technically isn't a music video, it's a special video that was used as a vcr during the 2000 concert. BUT WHY? why summer in love? it makes no sense, even with the remix version.

when the summer in love music video popped up again a few years ago it turned out a lot of yellowkies didn't even know it existed (including me HAHA) but it was set to com'back rather than the official release with the vhs which was with summer in love. speaking of, there's no official upload for it... or pom saeng pom sa for that matter.

what i think is lee hoyeon, the director of dsp at the time was embarrassed. he spent 200 million won on flying the boys out to guam and getting a special director just for it to look the way it does.

yellowkies argue over it often but i personally believe it was supposed to be a com'back music video. here's the supposed original summer in love vs the one i think is the true version with com'back. idk... it's up to you to decide which you prefer.
