and once she was in bed, she said: “what a fine night! what a good walk! i knew the wolf wouldn’t find me!”
“oh, but you must travel through those woods again and again…” said the shadow at the window, “… and you must be lucky to avoid the wolf every time… but the WOLF…
THE WOLF ONLY NEEDS ENOUGH LUCK TO FIND YOU ONCE.”
Delila came to a stop as he spoke, unable to stop herself from wincing as she turned to face him. She felt…so EMBARRASSED. “You may not be going anywhere, but that doesn’t mean I should…bogart your time by ranting like a lunatic,” she pointed out, hesitating before sitting down anyway, not to keep talking at him, but because she’d been on her feet for the better part of sixteen hours and she was exhausted. “That whole time you could’ve told me to shut up…why didn’t you?”
Tom seemed the least bothered by her presence there, though the way he dipped his gaze, he half expected she’d walk away anyway. He wouldn’t stop her either, it was her choice. To his surprise, though, she sat down instead and his eyes perked back up to meet hers. Giving a lazy shrug of the shoulders, Tom absently poked at the glass in his hands with his straw. “You’re a lady and y’distressed. Someone should always listen.” Tom was brought up proper -- proper as somebody who had been just about literally raised by wolves could be.
He thinks that showing off a few tricks would probably be one of those things his mentor would frown upon. Predictably, this is more than enough reason to motivate him to do that. “ Okay fine, but stand back a little. ”
Just like that, a brilliant smile tugged at the corners of his lips. “Yeah-- Yeah, I can do that.” Tom didn’t hesitate a moment as he stepped back and grinned eagerly at him.

It takes a single whiff of air for Ethan to establish to what the scent wafting past his nose belongs to: a WOLF. Nostrils flare and he draws in another breath, eyelids narrowed into slits as he approaches. This is no place for someone barely past their adolescence. ❝ Hey, kid. Are you lost? ❞ It wouldn’t surprise him, given the aforementioned as well as the other’s incessant looking about. ( // @hwliing )
His senses were on high alert as he moved through the area. He’s more or less meant to stumble through here, but his sense of direction wasn’t doing him any favors at all either. Wasn’t a good area, all the signs pointed to it, and Tom’s plan had been to steer clear of people. He was here for one reason and that reason involved a vampire and the stake he’d tucked into his jacket. But then that scent reached him and he inhaled sharply, immediately turning on his heel to find the source of it. It wasn’t a common scent. In fact, the chances of him finding it were slim to none, but there it was. Wolf.
As if on cue, he was suddenly face to face with somebody he’d never seen before in his life. Not much of a surprise there, but there was no denying the way his jaw slacked as he stared back at him like he hadn’t heard what he’d said at first. “Uh--” Tom cleared his throat and blinked to attention. “Yeah, is, uh-- Is it that obvious?” It wasn’t completely true, but the way he was gaping, it probably couldn’t have seemed more obvious.

“Y’can’t be here.”
Keep it calm. That was the way to do it, right? If he started freaking out, then everyone started freaking out. Thinking all kinds of things that weren’t true, awful things. But they were probably all better than what would actually happen if there were people around him. Tom had been looking all over the place for somewhere to safely transform. He was in a tight spot, nowhere near where he needed to be, and just when he thought he’d found a convenient building he could lock and chain himself up inside, it wasn’t empty like he thought it would be. Abandoned, but not empty. His lucky day.
“I can’t explain it, but please, y’can’t be here. You’ve got t’go.”
Build someone up. Put their insecurities to sleep. Remind them they’re worthy. Tell them they’re magical. Be light in a too often dim world.

When you’ve finally done something good and made some friends who make you feel like maybe you’re worth something again. But then the reality sinks in that you’re going home in a few days, home to that place where you have a grand total of one friend who isn’t associated with that one person you can’t seem to force yourself to get over.

people died. life was such. but it didn’t get any easier when he saw warlock children die or orphaned because of what valentine was doing. his jaw clenched at the thought of the shadowhunter, hunting down his kind one by one. he stayed intent on the drink in front of him, nursing it as he swirled it over and over again until there was a whirlpool in the middle of the glass. his lips curled up into a smile at the sight before turning to look at the stranger next to him.
❝ do you happen to know where the nearest downworlders here might be? it’s urgent business. ❞
The man had been silent since he’d arrived, which had left Tom fairly confident he would be able to avoid a very awkward, very half drunk conversation. It didn’t last. Should’ve known, really, it never did last in an establishment like this one. His voice came fairly suddenly and Tom hesitated, his gaze slipping toward him reluctantly for a moment as if he weren’t sure whether or not he would regret listening to him.
He wasn’t the trusting sort. He wanted to be, he’d just been taught not to be. “Depends,” Tom murmured, but his demeanor changed a little bit when he realized the look on his face. It was subtle, but the boy was more perceptive than people realized. Maybe more than this warlock realized.
That was it. That was scent of a warlock.
“What kind’ve urgent business is that?”
Hey, you. Yes, you. Send me anons. Make it about whatever you want. Just send one.

“I have a right to be angry.”
“Course y’do,” Tom told her, nodding along with every bit of her little rant despite the fact that he wasn’t even sure what she was ranting about. He’d never met her, never seen her before in his entire life, but then, who was he to turn away a young lady clearly in distress. So he just sort of shifted awkwardly and listened. “Jus’ wish I knew how I can help make it better. I’ll listen, though.” Tom paused and suddenly gestured to the seat across from him. “Y’can even sit if y’want, I’m not goin’ anywhere.”
