the man was still confused how he ended up here. he didn’t know. there wasn’t much to tell him how or why he was here. but maybe it was to make amends for all the shitty life decisions he had made. lip wasn’t ever expecting to see mandy ever again. but here she was. here she was actually talking to him. she truly was a person he had loved. no, he didn’t admit it and that’s why they didn’t work out. he was a stupid kid back then. he had a lot of growing up to do. seeing her, it changed everything. maybe he could have another chance. he pulled out a cigarette of his own and lit it.

“nice probably isn’t the right word but it’s an adjective. especially since i never thought i’d see somewhere other than chicago.” he said with a shrug, “sleeping is definitely hard here. i couldn’t agree more.” he breathed in, “how are you, mandy?” he asked.

Mandy scoffed a little, but not to be mean. It was more so the fact that she had always thought the two of them weren’t particularly good at the whole small talk thing. Yet, here they were, both of them, trying to have a conversation. Mandy felt a little bit like she had to stick to a script, that she couldn’t show her real emotions. She had to stick to her script in order to ensure that she didn’t repeat the mistakes of her past. Mandy looks down and away from him, “shit I just,” she starts, sucking air in deeply, “seems so fucking weird. All I ever wanted was to get the fuck out of Chicago. Now I have, and on top of that being as weird, now you’re here, asking how I am?” Mandy chewed on her lower lip, she wanted to say more on the subject, but Mandy had always been someone whose body language communicated more than her words.

Her lit cigarette rested between her index finger and her thumb, as if it were something else that she had to hold that way, rather than just nicotine. “I’m great.” She lied, eyes flickering back up to rest on his face one more. “I mean, got what I always wanted, didn’t I?” Mandy said, but her tone was a little dry. She had never imagined that finally getting out of the toxic place where she grew up would mean that she was going to feel lonelier than she had before she’d left.

Freddie had been on an early morning stroll through town to go grab some groceries since his flat was sorely lacking food. The woes of living by yourself, he supposed. It was a normal day until he saw someone he recognized. Someone he didn’t think he’d see here. Cook. With his memory being hazy, he couldn’t remember where the two had left off but Cook was his best friend — his brother — so he was always going to be happy to see him. He made his way over to him not sure what to expect. As he was about to speak, Cook began to talk and Freddie shut his mouth instantly. What the hell was he even talking about?

“Whoa, mate. Calm down. It’s me. Seriously, it’s me. Not a joke, not someone else. Just… me.” He held his hands up in defence, taking a step back just in case. “I have no idea what you’re talking about. Why couldn’t I be me? Are you okay?” His head tilted to the side in concern. “Have you taken something?”

Cook hesitated, eyes flickering up to Freddie’s eyes, down his body, and then back up again. Cook wondered how it was possible that someone could replicate Freddie to this extent. It didn’t make any logical sense to him that he recognized the concerned look in his best friend’s eyes as he just stared. For a few moments, it was all he could do, before a depressing realization came crashing down on him. Was he dreaming? Had he taken something? Perhaps he was dreaming? Of course, with the reality of those thoughts surrounding him and bubbling all up around him as if he were under water, also came the terrible truth that this moment he was experiencing could be fleeting. Cook could waste his only chance to get some time again alongside someone he had missed every day for the past few years.

Since when did Cook waste opportunities? Since when did he not live in the moment? Cook shook his head, unable to help a small chuckle from leaving his lips, “nah mate, nothin’” He answers, all of his remaining energy was being spent on not tackling Freddie to the ground and never letting go. “You wanna go catch a drink somewhere? Old times sake? I’ve missed ya.”

Sidney was still completely shocked that somehow… This place managed to bring the dead back to life. That somewhere… Tatum was wandering the streets as though nothing had happened. That there was a chance; that Dewey might return to her and Gale. That things may… Somehow, work out. She looked across to the other, smiling a little. “Clean is certainly one word for it.” Sid teased and chuckled softly. “Quiet is another. Guns? Well, I’m more used to knife crime. But this place is indeed safer, from what I can tell. There’s not so many injuries or casualties.”

Mandy smirked a little at the words of the other woman. She hadn’t met many people here yet that seemed like they would be people she would get along with. This woman though? Perhaps Mandy had met someone that was more her speed. She eyed the other thoughtfully for a moment, before she spoke. “Most people think guns are the way to go, but I’ve always thought it was fucking badass choosing a knife instead and being just as good or even better with it.”

DID HE LIKE THIS PLACE? as of now, nathaniel was certain that if.. someone were to ask him that, his answer would be that he very much did not. after all, it had done nothing but attempt to try to make him lose his sanity, time and time again and.. right now, he was honest to god surprised at how it had not happened yet. perhaps he was more persistent than he had believed himself to be at first and.. yes, even that much was a surprise, that was for sure. still, people kept testing his patience and one of these days.. well, perhaps he would snap. perhaps he would snap and he would give the people what it seemed that they wanted - not the man, but the conqueror, who would have them all running on the opposite direction with a snap of his fingers, but.. then again, until then - he had to know that he had tried everything that he could. right? yes, that was why he tended to want to be alone, because.. things were much, much better when he was, that was for sure. less... DIFFICULT, were they not? and yet, when he heard the other’s words, he couldn’t help it but to laugh. “that’s what you’d call this shithead of a place? clean? MAN, SUPPOSE SO. not for much longer, though.” one could ask - just what else did he have to lose anymore? nothing and nothing at all, no. “and is that something that you’re used to? sorry in advance. know what that’s like.”

Mandy looked over at the man who had spoken. She didn’t know why she had found his words odd, but she did. There was something about the way he was so certain that this place sucked that she liked. She wouldn’t go as far as to call Bar Harbor a ‘shithead of a place’ but that didn’t mean she loved it here either. She had simply been commenting on the differences she had noticed in it from Chicago. Mandy had wanted to get out of Chicago for so long, and now that she had, she found that it was strange to be places that were so unfamiliar. She didn’t know everyone that lived on the street around her, she didn’t have that familiar comfortability. Maybe that was a good thing, Mandy wasn’t sure yet.

“Not for much longer hey? What are you planning on trashing the place?” Mandy asked, although she didn’t necessarily care if he answered her. Mandy wasn’t one to nose into other people’s business, but she had started the conversation so she might as well be a part of it. She wasn’t from here, and it almost sounded as if he wasn’t either. “Yeah? You come from a shitty ghetto too?”

Beth wasn’t a huge drinker, but something had brought her into the bar tonight. She wasn’t sure if she was craving something strong, human connection, or if she had just walked by and decided that she was going to go in. She scanned the room, sliding her coat down and off her body. She draped it over one of her forearms as she tried to decipher where she should sit to have her drink. Beth takes in the groups of people all chatting, talking, and drinking happily. Some of them were eating too, and all of them looked decently content and happy. Well, almost all of them. Beth’s eyes fell on a loner sitting at the bar top. He didn’t look like he was upset, but he didn’t look particularly happy either. He was sitting alone and that didn’t quite sit right with Beth. It was the holidays, and no one deserved to sit and be miserable alone during the holidays. Walking with intention she made her way over to the stool next to him. She couldn’t see his full face yet, but that didn’t matter. “This seat taken?” She asks, but doesn’t wait for a response as she slides onto the stool. She places her coat on the stool next to her as the bartender comes over to take her order. She doesn’t know what brings her to order what she does, but somehow it feels like what she should order, “whiskey, neat please.” She says with a kind smile, before turning to the man who had been sitting all alone. There’s a small itch in her brain, but she can’t quite place the reason for it being there.

“I know I just invited myself to sit with you, and if you want me to sit somewhere else I’ll gladly go. It’s just that, it bein’ so close to the holidays...I just don’t think anyone should have to sit all alone.”

Miles had only really made a real friendship with the man he worked for. Klaus had become his mentor and someone he looked up to. He had buried himself in his work for so long that he almost forgot what it was like to socialise like this. He couldn’t deny that spending the night with someone as adorable as Johnny was a good damn thing. “Nice to meet you then, Johnny! I like it. Mine’s just a pretty plain name.” He admitted with a chuckle. “Ah, I’m probably totally boring I just tend to go for a flavoured cider of some kind. I’ve heard a lotta good things about some homemade stuff that’s made in a brewery here! How about you?”

“I don’t know about plain. I’ve never met someone named Miles before.” Johnny admitted. They’d all had nicknames where he came from, well, all but him. He’d always just been Johnny. He wrinkled his nose a bit, honestly thinking for a moment. “You’re more adventurous than me. I usually just stick with beer. Never really had much else that was different than that.” He was telling the truth, running with his friends it was either that or something harder and amber in colour. Tonight could be a night of maybe branching out in more ways than one. Johnny could feel his heart racing in his chest, he didn’t quite know what the cause was.

Cook had lost a bet with a coworker and that had led him to his festive attire, but he wasn’t about to admit that to his date. Cook just chuckled at her, giving her a little shrug. “That’s me, love the fucking holidays. All the lights and the cocktails and the dancing.” He rambled on, “are you the festive sort Jen?” Cook wondered, giving her a small nod. “James Cook, at your service.”

miles had to admit he was feeling super excited about this whole thing. he liked parties, he liked meeting new people… what wasn’t to like? he hadn’t hesitated to offer to take someone to the event. “hey there! you must be johnny, right?” he greeted with a wide grin. “i’m miles, it’s nice to meet you! would you perhaps like to join me for a drink to start things?”

Johnny had decided to go along with someone to the event in an attempt to meet new people. He was shy, he wasn’t good with making friends. Being in Bar Harbor was so strange to him. It almost seemed he was in a different time entirely, a time beyond him, as if he was in the future. None of his old found family were here, so maybe it was possible that branching out might be the best thing for him to do. When Miles had walked up to him, his breath had hitched in his throat a little bit. Johnny wasn’t good with talking to may people, and it was especially harder when they were jaw dropingly handsome. “Yeah, Johnny’s what they call me.” Although he didn’t know what ‘they’ he was even referring too, “drink sounds great. what’s your poison?”
