{ - ⚙ - } Soul-link or not, Mahoroa could tell that his accusations had an effect on Luna-- there was an anger there that he knew was a tangible one, a protective kind of anger that seemed almost as if she had experience with brainwashing. Brainwashing he had experience with too, for after all, Dedede had attempted this at least twice with the Cappies.. and Nightmare employed it with Dedede himself. Even Kirby had fallen to such things.. plus, there was the two times of possession he and Kirby had suffered, with Mahoroa having gone through possession with the Dark Matter before.

{ - ⚙ - } ..It kind of scared him to think that Daphodyl was capable of such acts, but her behavior indicated she was desperate enough to resort to that shit. It made him that more determined to stop it before it grew worse, and he figured that kind of action would tack on more punishment from Dream Land laws. He and Luna had to get to her before she did more damage. Who knows what she’d do?

{ - ⚙ - } That being said, he could also sense a bit of fear from Luna about failure, from how she spoke of his deep trust in her. He had something to say to that, too, and so he let his smile grow. He was glad such a trust went both ways, and the Halcandran so desperately wanted to prove to Luna the depths of his believing in her.

⚙ – “I know for a fact that you can help me, Luna. I have the sense that you know what it’s like to deal with that kind of horrible ability holding power over you.. and I do as well. Which is why we have to show that bitch she’s wrong to use that as leverage over people’s lives. I’m getting the sense that Petal’s not the only person Daphodyl’s used this on.

But, I think we should probably return to my Dream Land. W-we can go to the Starcutter and get supplies there. We’ll use that for transport to as far into the forest as we can, and from there, we can go to the Evergreen Fortress. I’ll try to track Daphodyl’s magic. Whatever we do, we can’t be hostile until we have to be. Otherwise, we might be hurting innocent people.”

{ - ⚙ - } Mahoroa’s expression grew serious, and he frowned, exhaling deeply and blinking slow to focus his own emotion into something coherent. Then, and only then, did the alien hybrid speak again.

⚙ – “..I know about the butterfly, Luna. It’s basically a legend I heard about reincarnation and the like. Halcandra’s rendition I think may be related to my great-grandfather’s banishing of one of the people who helped him with the NOVA projects..”

{ - ⚙ - } He narrowed his eyes in thought, having asked Meta Knight about the butterfly thing. Supposedly, the butterfly appeared near those either with great power or a closeness with death.. and now, apparently, such a power was going to others here? It didn’t make too much sense considering how the legend in Halcandra was told, but he figured perhaps it was just.. a different culture, perhaps..

⚙ – “To think that kind of power would transfer to Petal, though.. Well, I guess it makes sense as to why she appears so different to the rest of the puffballs.. Training that kind of power does take a lot of effort, but it has to be done slowly! I should know, really-- it took me a long time just to get used to my soul-linking powers, and I know it’ll take me some time to get accustomed to the form that allows me my strongest potential. Daphodyl’s just manipulating Petal, not training her.

I say that because training isn’t just pushing people to their highest limits without a break. Also, I have a bad feeling Petal.. might not be entirely in control of herself.. She might’ve been when she collapsed the house, but now? From the sounds of it.. she perhaps might be brainwashed. It’s.. it’s a good thing I resisted when I did, or perhaps I would be fucked over by whatever she’s done to Petal..”

{ - ⚙ - } Mahoroa stared at Luna seriously, a plan starting to spark in that head of his, as the narrowing of his golden-yellow hues changed to a determined sort of look. There was even a touch of confidence, perhaps, but only a small one, as his mouth twitched into something different than just a harsh frown, between a smirk and a thin line.

⚙ – “You know, actually.. I didn’t mention to Daphodyl anything regarding my powers. And I doubt she knows much about you, either. Dedede personally authorized me to bring anyone with me to go confront her on the laws of Dream Land she’s happened to break. I’m going with you because you know Lillian more than I could right now. I know Petal more than Daphodyl would, and so do you.

If Lillian and Petal trust you so deeply.. I see no reason why I shouldn’t. I’ve always seen you as a trustworthy and empathetic person, and I’m sure Lillian and Petal would think the same. All we have to do is formulate a plan on what we’ll tell her.. and the alternative, if she’s not feeling talkative. I’m putting my trust in you to join me in this. I mean.. at the moment, you’re the most reliable line to Lillian and Petal that I have.”

With that in mind, let’s discuss...

The Butterfly Legend

Because of the current stuff Maho’s involved in, I think I’d best talk about the subject of Morpho Knight, otherwise just referred to as “the butterfly”. It’s a different form of the lore/headcanon than to the rest of those participating in the June Bugs event.. to some degree.

Namely, there’s a big difference to how the legend itself is told, at least in Halcandra in Maho’s universe. In Halcandra’s history, there’s a pretty mysterious thing surrounding the banishment of one of the most prominent Ancients... namely, Hyness, the leader of the Jambastion cult.

According to Maho’s universe’s rendition of the butterfly legend, the legend itself started shortly after Hyness’ banishment, although the events are unclear as to why the legend started. There ARE some written records of Hyness’ banishment, mostly of how the Halcandran council, including Hiikarii, handled his punishment. He was charged on “harming another living being”, a missing puffball that was very close to Rii and Maho’s Meta Knight at the time. The real name of the puffball is technically unknown at the blog’s current point of time, thanks to the scarcity of the records regarding Hyness’ actual offense on Halcandran law.

The gist, though, is that Hyness practiced an illegal spell that severely weakened the missing puffball, which resulted in Rii fighting against Hyness and winning in that fight. After that, Hyness was banished from Halcandra, and the Jamba Heart was sealed with the Heart Spears, one of which was wielded by Rii himself.

...Following that, the legend emerged and is still discussed by the current generation of Halcandrans, mostly as word of mouth stories regarding fate, death and strong magical power on the level of the Star of Halcandra. The butterfly, marked by the supposed wing colors of the missing puffball, is said to appear to those with great power or those who are about to die.

This kind of butterfly, which I’m going to headcanon as a sunset morpho butterfly, is said to be fluttering around people like Kirby on a constant basis. The first time it showed up was after Kirby came home from the whole Kaabii Soul debacle with Maho, and it hasn’t really shown up since in the blog’s events, but will probably show up in the future.

The type of curse Hyness used is not known in the timeframe of the blog at the moment, but I’ll probably reveal the actual nature of the curse as we get closer to KSA’s actual timeframe in Maho’s blog story. }

{ - ⚙ - } Mahoroa’s ears lowered immediately at sensing the rising panic within Luna’s voice the more she spoke. The “new country” thing suddenly made more sense to the Halcandran, though, once the golden-yellow puffball brought it up.

{ - ⚙ - } Daphodyl seemed to act as if Whispy’s Woods were someplace she had at least enough control over to consider her personal territory.. but unlike Dedede, she acted a lot more.. dictatorial about it. Like.. well, like Dedede used to act, before Kirby and I managed to snap him out of it.

{ - ⚙ - } That, and her irrational fear of me going with others.. Damn, if I had accepted her offer.. I might be in Petal’s position right now. I’d be in trouble. After all, if that so-called “Empress” had my magic at her disposal... Popstar might just see itself in danger so soon again..

{ - ⚙ - } Mahoroa forced himself to not think about that scenario right now. Nor of the other reason he had a stake in this: in addition to Dedede authorizing potentially capturing and/or even fighting Daphodyl with his allies of choice, the penguin king had allowed something else: formal criminal charges against Daphodyl for messing with a crime scene..

{ - ⚙ - } He doubted Daphodyl was completely aware of the crime scene he highly suspected was in the house, but, well, legally she still was responsible, if she made herself responsible for fixing the house all of a sudden.. or perhaps, really.. Daphodyl wasn’t EVER intending on being helpful. It was a good thing he interrupted her, or else perhaps he’d never be able to solve the other issue he had.

{ - ⚙ - } Mahoroa finally regained his breath after a moment of both ruminating over the situation and fighting through the exhaustion, looking serious as he shakily put one of his disembodied glove-hands on Luna. His golden-yellow hues seemed almost desperate as he began to speak,

⚙ – “...Dedede has allowed me to formally press charges on her if need be. There’s.. another matter I started to look into. There’s.. there’s the possibility a murder happened in Petal and Lillian’s house. A possibility that Daphodyl may have tampered with the crime scene without knowing it’s one.. and I do now suspect.. she is trying to hide that the house ever existed, in order to prevent Petal and Lillian from ever leaving.

Luna.. We have to go to her fortress together. As an ambassador, she actually gave me the directions to the Evergreen Empire, even though I showed my distrust on full display. I fully intend on going there to confront her about covering up the potential crime scene and.... for forcing Petal to stay there. I-I can show you the way there, once I’ve had a bit of rest.. no, I’d rather you and I team up for this. We’re both Petal’s friends and we should both do our best to help her and Lillian leave, along with any other potential victims..”

{ - ⚙ - } Mahoroa looked down for a moment at the picture of Daphodyl, and then back at Luna, his expression softening as he looked at her, feeling her panic even without the soul-link ability of his, her voice having sharply risen as she came to the realization regarding Daphodyl’s potential hidden darkness, her eyes seeming to glisten with fear and anxiety.. He had to get his teal-haired friend to calm down a moment, and he had to calm down, too.

⚙ – “Luna.. we have to prepare for this. Just.. Let’s just calm down.. and assess the situation in full. Whatever you know currently.. please tell me, as that will help immensely.. And just.. breathe a moment before you do, alright? A calm head does better than a panicky one..”

{ - ⚙ - } The Halcandran, in response to Luna’s words, flopped onto the ground, his ears giving a tremble as he tried to catch his breath. He ended up dropping the clipboard, which looked to be some kind of form for ordering building materials.. something like that. The majority of it seemed to be in Halcandran, though...

{ - ⚙ - } However, it did comfort Mahoroa a bit to know Luna was at least partially in the know.. even if he was scared for Petal’s safety. Hell, he worried for Lillian, too, even though he didn’t know Lillian that well.. The alien hybrid eventually caught his breath for long enough that he shakily offered what looked to be a journal of some kind.

{ - ⚙ - } There was a drawing of someone there, one he’d made for Dedede and the Waddle Dees earlier- it was labeled “Daphodyl”.

⚙ – “T-this is who I meant.. I saw her at Petal’s earlier, and her behavior was incredibly.. suspicious...! She tried to convince me she was helping Petal rebuild, but I have a horrible feeling she’s doing the exact opposite. I.. I t-told her about my own rebuilding project, s-since I.. I told.. I told Petal and Lillian through a letter I’d be doing that. I.. I h-had the forms and everything but Daphodyl stepped in before I could get everything in time..”

{ - ⚙ - } Mahoroa put the journal onto the grass and put the clipboard next to it, taking a few deep breaths to try and get more breath to work with while explaining the story to Luna. After a bit, he lifted his head, worry seeming to darken his golden eyes more than the blue-and-gold hood he wore, a frown showing two of his fangs in its deepness.

⚙ – “...S-simply put.. Every time I tried to reason with her for things, she insisted she had power. B-but... Petal’s house is within range of Dream Land’s territory. It means.. l-legally, King Dedede of my world has power over it. He g-gave me leverage to.. investigate this. He says s-she might be a legitimate threat to Cappy Town and.. and Petal and Lillian..

It’s because.. when I said I wanted to bring people with me when g-going to her fortress.. she showed resistance. As an ambassador, I.. n-need to maintain my safety.. She was going to refuse me that. T-there just wasn’t something right with her. Like.. as if.. she were strong. Too strong. Like s-she was.. trying to sweep me up in her power. S-she felt like a powerful “ecomancer”, as she told me she and Petal are..” 

{ - ⚙ - } ..It doesn’t look like Mahoroa can say much more at the moment, since he had strained himself to get to Luna as fast as he did. The poor Scarfy-hybrid hoped Luna would believe him like Dedede did, for he remembered the penguin king had outright gasped in horror once he’d recounted the entirety of his own conversation with the so-called empress of Whispy’s Woods. Even Meta Knight had sensed something was off..

{ - ⚙ - } Oh jeez. Even Mahoroa could tell that seemed to be a lie, from the now hostile look he saw in the fairy-being’s eyes when she closed them to him. There seemed now to be a palpable sharpness to her purple hues, seeming sharper than any image he’d seen.. It was almost as bad as the time he’d fought Drawcia with Kirby..

{ - ⚙ - } Mahoroa could admit, though, the green-haired Daphodyl had taken the words right out of his mouth. He didn’t trust her after all. Whatever she was doing, he’d have to come back to her fortress. He had to tell everyone back home. With some hint of sharpness to his own tone of voice, he bared his fangs at her, turning around after a nice glare.

⚙ – “I’ll bring them, alright. I can understand, yes.. I’m sure they are waiting for you right now. I.. wonder, what will happen if we meet again..”

{ - ⚙ - } And Dedede is awaiting me too. But unlike you, he’s at least made the effort to stop being so.. dangerous. The Halcandran floated away from Daphodyl, right back in the direction he’d originally gone. At first it was just a slow float, but when the alien hybrid figured he was far away enough, he summoned a rune of sorts behind him and flew backwards into it, speeding off again towards Cappy Town with flower petals and grass flying into the air behind him.. I have to first call upon Dedede.. and then I have to go to someone else. Someone who knows Petal...

⚙ – “Even if I did want your help.. Maybe you should have asked Petal first. Surely you have the ability to communicate with her somehow, right? I’d be sure by that logic that somehow she could communicate what she wants.. right?”

{ - ⚙ - } The Halcandran gave a hiss-sounding sigh as his list was shoved back at him, followed by the empress speaking something that felt like a tiny bit of poison was hidden in her words. It actually kind of pissed him off, hearing her say that she’d “do what I please”. The terms were different in the territory of Dream Land, as well as his duties as an ambassador of Halcandra.

{ - ⚙ - } By profession, he was also a Star Warrior, he was someone Dedede specifically wanted to help protect Dream Land from those who would wish it harm. Not that he needed to fully voice that yet, Mahoroa hoped. Unfortunately, the more Daphodyl spoke, the more.. uneasy he felt, to the point that his ears lowered against his head when she mentioned she wanted the accompaniment he wanted to stick to a minimum.

{ - ⚙ - } Mistake.

⚙ – “...I’m at liberty not to tell you how many I intend to bring with me, Empress. Just like you seem to have regarding barging in on someone else’s property without the right tools to get rid of those vines. At the very least, I want to make it clear to you that even if you want less people to come.. they are my decision and my decision alone.”

{ - ⚙ - } Mahoroa felt hesitant to follow the directions that Daphodyl had given him, but he decided to mentally map them in mind. It’s deep in Whispy’s Woods.. beyond where any path could lead.. and the domain begins with a wall of thorns, trees, daffodils and shrubbery..

{ - ⚙ - } Why do I feel so scared about this? More and more red flags are popping up for me, so I have to stay on the defensive until I can get her to leave..

(I haven’t checked this in years. Hgh.) – five  /  hobbies.  I write, draw and enjoy video games. – six /  favourite colors.  green, blue and orange – seven / favourite books.  hmmmmm if I had to choose one, I’d go with Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne as the one I’ve liked the longest. Specifically an edition which includes some commentary and footnotes n junk like that. – eight  /  last song listened to.  uhm. A legit song? If you mean something resembling that, uhhh i guess Mass Destruction from Persona 3?? (gfrbjewkgbj sorry, modern music irritates me so I prefer video game tunes) – nine  /  last film watched.  I think it was the original Alien film. – ten  /  inspiration for muse. oddly enough? the Kirby anime. I’d been watching that when I came up with the AU Maho’s a part of. – eleven  / dream job.  preferably I’d be an animator! But I’d be happy just being a normal sorta artist too.. – twelve  / meaning behind your url.  Admittedly, this blog started out as a blog from the Cardcaptor Sakura series, but that didn’t take off. I’ve had the url for quite a while since that era, and kept the url since I couldn’t think of any for Maho at the time I established him as a muse.
