If she were herself, in the moment of fight or flight she was all about flight. Running was really all she knew besides being chained down like an animal, which she partially was. That changed when she was a wolf, everything she tried to bury down came spilling out on the full moon. It was half the reason she chose to separate herself from others. Of course with pressure, she’d fall into order but it wasn’t natural for her like it was for others. That’s what it always came back to. Sheltered unknowingly and then without choice, forced to be a lone wolf and find any other one to be threatening.
The bark that echoed caused one of her front paws to come up, as if she was going to back off and retreat. However, that wasn’t the case here. Her teeth were on constant display, setting her paw down again though when she did she gave herself a push forward, charging towards him. When she was close she attempted to nip at him but was also quick to move back in a taunting motion.
When she tried to nip at him, he moved his head back but kept his footing still. In retaliation, he took a bite of the air, the clanking of his teeth echoing as he let her know he wouldn’t hesitate to bite back. Everything about this wolf was screaming ‘loner’ to him, as most of the werewolves in Mystic Falls were. But she was different; a normal lone wolf wouldn’t challenge authority, she didn’t seem to recognize it. He let out another bark and stepped closer to her when she moved back.

“Oh?” She gave a half smile in response to his first comment, So she hadn’t actually expected Alex to show up or even be interested, but it was fine, if he wanted to be here she’d indulge. “Oo, nothing serious I hope?” Astrid was as joking as she was hoping he wasn’t about to reply with something like ‘well, actually’. The smile stayed on her face as she stepped around the counter and gestured forwards, down a pathway that led to the kennels. “I’ll walk you around, give you the tour. Am I way too hopeful in thinking you would let a sweet pooch join your dragon pair?”
“Umm,” he tilted his head from side to side in an unsure manner. “For the most part, no?” He had no intentions of turning this into a lecture. He cared for both Mason and Astrid and he’d rather see the two of them work things out than continue in whatever was going on between them. As he followed her, he let out a light chuckle. “Just a bit too much,” he said lightheartedly. “I may be a dog person, but I’m not a dog person.”

Grace could hear some shuffling from the alley. Her own curiosity getting the best of her. She followed the sounds to see what she could only assume was a vampire taking blood from a clearly compelled victim by the glazed over expression on her face. If this had happened back when she was a regular old human, she wouldn’t have done anything. But now she was capable of doing something. With as much force as she could muster in that moment, Grace pulled Alex away from the girl and carefully urged the girl to move out of the way.
His senses hadn’t fallen away even while he revelled in the taste of the girl's blood. He had heard the footsteps approaching, he simply hadn’t expected for someone to tear him away. A lecture, sure, everyone in town loved giving them but the hands suddenly on him made him look to see who it was immediately. The unfamiliar face wasn’t surprising with the way people flowed in and out of this town but his guess was that she must have been a wolf if she had been able to peel him off the girl the way she had with the heartbeat that mirrored that of a human. “She’s not gonna move,” he said, having compelled the girl to stand still.

After talking with Astrid, Alex was leaving the shelter, pulling the jacket over his shoulders as the October air nipped at his skin. One thing he wasn’t expecting of today was to see the blond bastard from the wedding heading his way. “Well, if it isn’t Mr. Sensitive,” he said with a small chuckle as he continued walking. @shawnmaddox

“Two minutes,” she called to the person who rang the bell. Astrid just had to finish drying one of their new arrivals after their de-feeling and bath. She handed them over to her co-worker and made her way to the front desk, in spite of the wet patches on her shirt. “Hi, how ca-” she stopped, looking at him. “Alex. Hi.” Astrid stepped closer, tilting her head. “What brings you here?”
He looked up once the other hybrid walked in, noticing the wet patches but choosing not to comment on them. He placed the pamphlet back where he found it, the text of no interest to him as he didn’t own a dog nor did he need to know the proper ways to train one. He stepped closer to Astrid with a shrug. “Thought I’d check the place out,” he said. “And talk to you a bit.” He had seen her at the wedding and knew she had talked with Mason there.

Since she had been free of her chains and getting to New Orleans, around other wolves she had been taken in and taught what was the best approach on a full moon. It was much easier thing to have to do when there was a whole pack though she could never truly say she became apart of it. No matter what she felt alone, which is why she would go off on her own after a while of being there with them. As grateful as she was for the help they had provided her with, there was still a lot that she had to work through herself. One of the main things being that she still did not want to accept what she was. The wolf was apart of her but she didn’t connect to it, not the way it seemed others did.
After going through the pain of turning, Mia roamed around the woods for a while. Consciously going in and out of what was happening, though she never remembered it by the time she turned back into her human form. Instinct always played a bigger factor in the actions she made during a full moon. What was within her, once it was let loose it wanted to run with the freedom it felt. After having to turn for many moons with chains around her, not learning anything from the time she was captured, it left her on a whole other level when she was allowed to roam and that was precisely the reason she ended up near the home.
Noises had attracted her all the way there and a part of her, that wasn’t really her, wanted blood. The desire to hunt was boiling up inside. She could sense it but she couldn’t control it. If someone crossed her path, there would be no hesitation to attack them. However, she hadn’t expected what crossed her path to be another wolf. The growl that came from the other caused her to immediately get into a defensive stance with a growl of her own. The only thing she saw was a threat and someone invading what she was claiming to be hers momentarily. So rather than backing off and giving him dominance she moved forward.
Alex didn’t step back when the female advanced towards him nor did he move forward. After the death of his father, he grew up particularly close to his mother, the alpha of his pack. Even when they would turn, he had always observed her and learned from her. Since the day he was born, he was being moulded to one day take over as an alpha. While that never really came to be with Klaus turning him into a hybrid, that didn’t mean he lost anything he was taught. So bowing down to a lone wolf wasn’t something he was going to do.
His ears were pointed up, his tail in a similar position. His lips curled backed to reveal his teeth, another growl escaping them before it turned into a bark. Yet another warning but while the first one was for her to step back, this one was for her to stand down. Even if he couldn’t read her mind, he could tell what the female was thinking based off her physical behaviour. From her defensive stance to her steps forward, Alex was already preparing for a fight.
Many moons ago, it would have been a surprise to find Alex in his current position. When he had first turned into a hybrid, he fed exclusively on blood bags to satisfy his hunger. Anything to distance himself from the vampire side of him. Now, he didn’t really care; he still preferred to drink from blood bags but indulged himself to the vein from time to time. That was where he was, standing in the alleyway behind the bar. The girl he was holding was silent, her eyes glazed over with compulsion as his fangs sunk into her neck. @lesshumanxgrace
Alex stepped into the shelter, the strong scent of canines reaching his nostrils as the bell above the door announced his arrival. The front room was empty of people but he could hear movement going around in the back room mixing in with some barking. Finding it pointless to call out to his fellow hybrid as the bell did just that, he waited by the front desk, reading one of the various pamphlets they had on display. @astridxking
The overcast was hiding the moon behind the clouds but that didn’t stop Alex from feeling its effects on him. Years ago, this was a time that he would look forward to, for the chance to fully embrace his werewolf genetics and let his wild side loose. Now, there was no point for him to turn. If he did, he would just be a lone wolf with no pack to chase. Even as he walked the streets as a human despite it being midnight, it was yet another reminder of the loss he’d experienced. But that didn’t mean there weren’t full moons where he didn’t turn. When that loneliness was strong enough, he would turn to try and fool himself into thinking that nothing had changed. But he was a hybrid and he remembered everything that happened while he was a wolf, so that loneliness stuck with him.
This night, however, it was different. Maybe it had to do with that fact that Frank had asked him for help with something so his mind was too busy to think about tonight. Or maybe it had to do with the fact that he spotted a wolf lurking a little too close to a house as he was making his way back to his apartment. To a regular person, it would look just like a normal wolf but Alex had been around enough werewolves to tell the difference between the two. The werewolf was sniffing around the home, slowly making their way closer to the front porch. Alex, in the meantime, had stripped himself of his outer garments, leaving himself only in his boxers, and folded his clothes neatly, hiding them in the bush nearest to him.
The silence of the night was disrupted by the sound of breaking bones as Alex turned. Maybe if he really let himself think about the full moon, he would have kept walking and allowed the wolf to do what they pleased. But letting whoever was in that house possibly die and having the werewolf wake up with blood on their hands, that was just too dark for him. The cracking stopped and where the blond man once stood was now a tawny brown wolf. He stepped closer to the other wolf but still kept his distance, letting out a small growl; a warning for her to step back. @miaberman
