he was ready to move and get out of there as soon as possible, yet he found his lips still locked to his friend’s. the guard is coming back. his thoughts wouldn’t allow any other possibility, so he followed through. rather than holding him in place, he went along and rolled his arms around him with each passing second it was looking less and less of an act. only then he relied on his senses instead, his enhanced hearing telling him they were on the clear and actually had been for a minute or two.
clark was quick to pull back, a nervous chuckle followed with the back of his hand wiping his own mouth. “you really are a good kisser. that cashier from the pizza place is lucky.” he cleared his throat, pushing every thought not related to their mission to the back. “are you done? putting the bug on the server, i mean.” the blue-eyed man was now shy, avoiding his eyes altogether. his arms were the last to lose touch with his waist, he looks at both ends of the hallway. “we’re on the clear.” a firm grip on jimmy’s wrist and he took him with when rejoining the party. “i’m not sure i can place a bid on any of these anyway.” he leaned to speak to his ear. “ready to head out?”
Jimmy's mind was still reeling from the unexpected kiss, trying to process what had just happened. He followed Clark back into the main hall, trying to act natural despite feeling like his whole world had been turned upside down. He rolled his eyes and acted casual at his coworker’s teasing. There was no cashier from the pizza place. That was what he called his crush whenever he talked about him to his friends. It was less revealing than ‘Man of Steel’.
As they made their way to the exit, Jimmy couldn't shake off the feeling that something had changed between him and Clark. He couldn't help but wonder if Clark had felt the same way he had during the kiss, or if it had all just been an act. The thought made Jimmy feel uneasy, and he found himself avoiding Clark's gaze as they walked out of the gala. As they made their way back to the Daily Planet, Jimmy tried to focus on the mission and the story they were working on, but his mind kept drifting back to the kiss.
When they finally arrived back at the newsroom, Jimmy couldn't resist and stopped in the dimlit hallway. They were the only two people in the building "Hey, Clark, can I ask you something?" he said hesitantly. "Did that kiss mean anything to you?" Jimmy asked, trying to keep his voice steady. “Or is that just something you do on the field? Do you do that to Lois when the two of you go out to get a story?” His eye’s searched Clark for an answer, his heart pounding while he desperately hope that was not the case. That the kiss was not just a ploy.
