100th post!
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Sonic the Comic, I’ve created this using artwork by my favorite artist Richard Elson.
Sonic the Comic defined my childhood (well, if I’m being totally honest, my teenage-hood!) Nigel Kitching wrote the most epic stories & Richard Elson illustrated them brilliantly. To me, they were Sonic the Comic!
I was fortunate enough to have my artwork featured in the comic on several occasions (these will be posted in the future) & Richard Elson once wrote back to me & included a little Sonic sketch (my avatar!) A truly great man, who makes time for his fans. My only regret, is that I don’t own any original Sonic the Comic artwork. The prices are far beyond my scope, though maybe one day I’ll get lucky!
What I wouldn’t give for Sonic the Comic to return! I admire what fans have done regarding STC-O, however, it’s not the same without Nigel Kitching & Richard Elson. I’m looking forward to the 20th Anniversary issue though, written by Nigel & illustrated by another fine STC artist, Nigel Dobbyn.
I can’t believe it’s been 20 years!
For those of you who have never read STC, I highly recommend tracking down some issues. Nigel Kitchings characterization of Sonic (who truly was a dick at times & I love him more for it! Sonic really was a dude with an attitude!) & the gang was beyond genius. The story lines that were based on the games were highly original & who could forget the Drakon Empire? Porker Lewis having a breakdown, Johnny’s death or the Brotherhood of Metallix?
Amazing times.
Here’s to everyone who worked on Sonic the Comic & it’s many fans.
Happy 20th Anniversary Sonic the Comic!
