Currently Reading: Fighting Fifteen (it’s about a group of really good pilots in the pacific during World War 2) and The Dangerous Shore (It’s basically about how a motley crew of scientists, mobsters, double agents, retirees, and volunteer pilots stopped the invasion of America during World War 2)

liebgott has to be one of the most interesting portrayals in band of brothers. very of the first scenes are of him antagonizing the other companies and calling out guarnere, and yet he’s one of a few people we see visibly cry in the show. he has to be explicitly told to not harm the POWs only episodes after we see him hold an injured tipper closely in an effort to calm him down. he readily aids in finding the man who shot grant but cannot look at the violence that befalls him once caught. he loves to read comics and fidget and is interested in what webster studied and is just so fascinating

Small excerpt for the Band of Brothers Newsies AU I’m writing! I promised it a while ago haha but here’s something from it. Maybe I’ll post the full chapter tomorrow or something. It won’t be anything too big just yet, probably just the prologue and the introduction of Joe Liebgott as Jack Kelly. It’s a little dramatic for how he typically is but trust me he’ll act like Lieb when he wakes up. Just let him rest haha. Enjoy!!

Chapter 1 : Liebgott

A gentle breeze blows through my unruly black hair, sending strands here and there with no real sense of direction. I didn’t need to open my eyes to catch sight of the vast plains before me. For a brief moment I could pretend that there were no deadlines or expectations dictating my every moment. I could just ride off into the daylight without a care in the world.

Laughter rings in my ears, the sound so full of warmth and light that it could possibly outshine the sun. Muffled chatter between friends and family ran deep through my bones. The slow clopping of hooves from my palomino setting the pace for us. I could smile and feel the muscles no longer constricting my face into a hardened snarl.

It was so easy, so easy to dream for a few minutes more.

There was nowhere to be but here.

I didn’t even need to open my eyes to see the colors the sunset made. An amber glow, that would come with every late afternoon, would cast the trees in a reddish hue and would light up my face as I trudged forward. Hints of purple and navy blue would appear later in place of the blood orange that made up most of the sky.

Removing a hand from the reins, I lifted my palm up towards the sky and felt the sunlight kiss along my fingertips. I’ve spent all day traversing the land and it still never gets old. I could do it day after day and never get bored of the slow thrall that came with splitting rails, planting crops, and riding out into the sunset. When the sun finally set then I could return home and swap tales around the fire with the family I’ve made for myself here. Then later that night I would come back to my soft feather bed and sleep until daylight.

Life would begin again and the next morning it would all repeat.

Here in my kingdom in the west.

My city made of gold.

My San Francisco.
