I want to take a moment and recognize what SHINee has done with SHINee World the Best 2018. This was not just a concert - this was a feat which took immeasurable mental, emotional and physical endurance to accomplish. Underneath everything, we have the tragic event that occurred only 2 months ago which SHINee is dealing with, not only on a personal level (losing their brother), but on a career and public level as well (whether they could go on as SHINee, and dealing with having their every move/word judged). Then they had to make the decision on whether to actually have the concerts. That’s only the beginning. Then they had to figure out the logistics of everything - what songs can they do? Will they play Jonghyun’s vocals, or have someone take his parts? Will they have a fill-in dancer or will they change the choreography? What will they say to the fans? They decided to strategically include Jonghyun and various tributes to him throughout the show - and they did so perfectly, with lovely and meaningful symbolism and in a way that didn’t drag down the mood of the entire concert (concentrating the ballads with Jonghyun’s vocals near the beginning, then switching over to a string of fun/energetic songs). They did all this and were mostly able to keep their shit together, which is amazing in and of itself. These guys (Jonghyun included) have always shown unparalleled dedication to their work and to their fans. The thought and sheer effort that was put into this is absolutely incredible. SHINee is the Best, indeed.

i keep wondering what jongkey's relationship was like, if they one of them (or both) really ever had.. some sort of feelings for the other outside of friendly ones. for some reason, i have this feeling it really was beyond friendship. maybe not exactly love or crush either, but.. i don't know, i feel like they had something for eachother only they could understand. it seems like they had a different kind of bond and it really tears me apart, especially seeing kibum like this.

I’ve been avoiding talking in depth about this because I don’t want to seem insensitive or only care about the ship but jongkey was never just a fanservice thing for me, I think it was the real thing

I can’t label them anything but I think for both of them had feelings that went farther than just friends. It was just a connection that is hard to put into words but it was special and I’ve always admired it

I’ve been thinking for a long while, Jjong’s choice to go when Key is so far away… was he scared key would notice? that he would find him? I don’t know… 

But I think they knew what they had together and how much love there was between them so I hope they got to enjoy it

I worry about kibum, but he’s been showing strong and that eases my mind a bit

https://twitter.com/jinkiyam1214/status/963711679988097024 (death tw) there’s no way to be sure and i highly doubt this is something sm ever wants to have to clarify on but it probably comes down to legal issues. regardless of the fact that he never left shinee or the company officially … he’s still no longer with us. his contact with sm broke pretty much the second that he passed away. he’s still an sm artist but it’s likely that the only content sm can put out anymore that involves his likeness is either: reprints of older releases (like albums and dvds - as we’ve already seen done with the former), releases that were already in the process of being put together at the time of his passing (example: possibly the dvd for swc5) or any very special future releases (like if they plan on releasing any songs recorded with him before the fact this year for the anniversary or something). releasing new merchandise in his likeness would be seen as them profiting off of (for lack of a better description) a deceased person and people could also take advantage of this fact by raising up the cost of merch to be sold secondhand, which has already become an issue with his older merch to begin with. they can still sell individual and group merch involving him that came out beforehand, but probably only until those items sell out in full. i don’t really see reproductions ever happening (for concert stuff, etc.). on top of this: future releases involving him probably have to be signed off upon by his next of kin, meaning: his mother and sister, and they may not be comfortable with the idea of new merch coming out with his face on it. i also figure that there really isn’t anything in their contracts that deals with a situation like the one at hand. 

do i understand? yes. do i think people should be upset with sm? no. i’m always the first person to admit that i’m not favorable toward sm but this isn’t really one of the situations where they should be blamed because what can they really do? this issue is also probably why umj chose to have the merch for the domes not include photos: they didn’t want to upset fans. this is going to follow the companies for the remainder of the year, especially if they chooe to do an anniversary event for the tenth and include merch like they did for the ninth. they’d either have to not use individual or group photos on anything, or just use images of jinki, kibum, minho and taemin. it is also why we’re going to see individual images being used to promote the group at schedules like the smtown concerts for a bit: they can’t use group images because it’d be false advertising as jonghyun would not be attending but they’re aware that using a photo without him or editing him out of a group one would cause issues. the next time that we see shinee being promoted for an event with a group photo will be after the members do their first photoshoot without jonghyun.

anyway. to finish: do i like it being done? of course not. i don’t like it but i’ve known that it would be coming sooner or later. i was just hoping it wouldn’t be this soon. it hasn’t even been two months yet. it’s a lot to deal with. i don’t think anyone is trying to erase him or exclude him. it’s just a complicated and really sad situation and everyone’s hands are tied. shinee is five but only when the members explicitly state that and only in the hearts of fans. (ask korean media about that one: they already refer to them as a four member group.)
