The mother of one of my favorite coworkers died a few days ago. I only met her mom a few times, but she was nice, and she raised a lovely daughter who absolutely does not deserve this.

I found this out at work, during an absolutely horrendous shift.

I can't tell you how aggravating it is to hear guests sniveling about TVs not working and other shit that pales in comparison when you just found out someone you know died.

I'm not entirely sure what the point of this post is, but be nice to customer service workers, because sometimes we have to put smiles on our faces and deal with complaints after hearing horrendous news.

Working with the general public is so fun because my coworker's mom died today and I found out during my shift and I had to listen to sniveling, entitled guests bleat about the fact that they didn't get a rollaway bed like that's the worst thing that's ever happened to anyone.

Drinking soda is better than drinking nothing all day. Eating ice cream for dinner is better than eating nothing for dinner. Eating salsa is better than having no produce in your diet at all.

Water is way more hydrating than soda, but soda is more hydrating than nothing. A balanced meal is way more nutritious than ice cream, but ice cream is more nutritious than nothing.

Something is better than nothing. Some hydration is better than no hydration. Some nutrients are better than no nutrients. Some produce is better than no produce.

Don't let societally imposed food guilt trick you into believing that nothing is a better choice. Nourishing your body, however you can, is always the better choice. Fed is best. Always.

I'm really never going to get to sit down with a new season of The Bear again, am I?

Pleased to report that after a day of this i am not longer craving caper brine and my mouth is not dry as usual. There's some good suggestions in the notes too that I want to try.

-ancient roman posca: water, red or white wine vinegar, honey, salt, herbs (coriander, mint, thyme)

-switchel: water, ginger, vinegar, sweetener, lemon, salt

-ayran: yogurt, water, salt, mint

-Agua pepino: water, cucumbers, lime, sugar, optional mint.

Can someone tell me how the FUCK to access a free trial on Hulu before I throw my laptop out my window? Even the free trial links take me to a payment screen. If I have to pay $13 up front it's not fucking free, is it? I'm not paying $13 to watch the final season of The Bear and immediately cancel.

On a side note, this is why I hate AI. When I Google it, the AI swears you can get a free trial, but I've seen no evidence of that yet.

My grandmother died very suddenly. Shortly before she died, she went to the doctor and was given a clean bill of health. That's debatable to me for several reasons, but almost 19 years later that irony is not lost on me.

And like I don't like to anthropomorphize the emotions of animals, so I'm not going to say I know exactly how animals feel about it. But I will say if you genuinely never have good interactions with animals that happen to be girls then I have to assume you're the one treating every girl animal really weird and you're an asshole. And if you are having good interactions with girl animals and are still saying shit like this then like. You're cherry picking instances to be misogynistic about animals online for no reason and you're an asshole.

this is so rampant among horse people it's wild. i rode a mare all my life and she was the gentlest, kindest soul i've ever met in any animal. yet the way every other rider i worked with, including women, would make assumptions and disparage her like 'oh you couldn't pay me to ride a mare' because they're supposedly difficult, unpredictable, and mean. it's crazy to listen to people talk about a horse the same way men talk about their 'crazy exes' in 90s sitcoms and that is not an exaggeration.

As someone who currently has the stereotypical clingy male cat, I second this. My previous cats, male and female, have been divas at best and had attitude problems at worse. (Love them all to bits.) They also had different degrees of affection. None of those were related to gender. Those were just their personalities. (And possibly coat colors; my first cat was Tortitude Personified.)

I remember first discovering this site five or six years ago and they haven’t even cracked a million names yet. I think it’s a really wonderful memorial that emphasizes each name as an individual rather than just a statistic and doubles as a teaching moment to show the sheer devastation to the global Jewish community and emphasize exactly how large a number six million is.
